2019 has been another fantastic year for music, there were so many great albums to choose, from old favorites new efforts to some remarkable debuts, that we couldn't pick just 50. So after immense discussion and plenty of arguments, we have selected our 100 essential records from a list of 350.

Cathedral Bells Details Debut Album 'Velvet Spirit'

Cassadaga, Florida dream pop/shoegaze project Cathedral Bells (aka Matthew Messore) has confirmed details of his upcoming debut album 'Velvet Spirit'.

Following the release of a debut, self-titled EP at the start of 2019, Cathedral Bells’ first full-length, will see release on vinyl and digitally on March 6th via Good Eye Records.via Good Eye Records. Pre-order your copy here.

The 11-track record is preceded by several singles including “Cemetery Surf” and “A Passing Phase” which drew initial praise from taste-makers including Indie Shuffle who said; “I think Cathedral Bells have struck the perfect balance of throwback synth work, melodic progression and overall shoegazey vibes. The result works in the 80s, the 90s, the naughties and in 2018. And that’s quite good coverage, all things considered.”

New Entry: Green Buzzard Airs "Clutter & Mess" (Masquerader Version)

Aussie guitar rock/pop artist Green Buzzard (aka Paddy Harrowsmith) has aired the Masquerader version of his song "Clutter & Mess".

This is the first taste from the remix EP titled ‘Masquerader’, out 2020 via I Oh You. The original version of the song is taken from his  debut album 'Amidst The Clutter & Mess', released last month. Grab it here if you haven't already.

Paddy's words: "A few months ago, myself and my dear friend Ash Moses aka Tunnel Signs started working on remixes for my album ‘Amidst The Clutter & Mess’ , we wanted to make something inspired by our combined love of Andrew Weatherall’s sprawling Primal Scream reworks, acid house and 90’s breakbeat. A throwback to the hedonistic baggy excess of 90’s Madchester.

“We always like our videos to feature people or places local to us so they have a weird familiarity (for those that know),” frontman Chris Bailey says of the vid. “We filmed the last one at the bar Nottingham we all drink at, this time we hired out an old social club near where we all live and cast a load of friends and their parents to play these funny sinister roles.”

Watch: Sam Fender Shares New Single/Video "All Is On My Side"

Newcastle indie rock musician Sam Fender has shared the video for his new single "All Is On My Side".

Sam's words: "This is one of the oldest songs I have, it didn’t make the album. I’ve played it for 5 years and wrote it when I was a baby. It’s always been a fan favourite at shows."

The video was directed by Jack Whitefield, who Explains: "The film was shot entirely on 16mm and 8mm film stock then edited partially by hand using a 1979 Steenbeck editing table. This allowed me to choose specific scenes, remove them from the reel of film and deface them with scratches, tape, holes, and create hand made transitions between scenes.”

Watch: Almond Soy Reveal Music Video For "Coat"

Australian indie pop/jangle pop band Almond Soy have revealed the video for their latest  single "Coat". 

The song is part of our current playlist and came out last month and is taken from their forthcoming sophomore EP 'Under The Wait', set to be released in January 2020.

"Coat is a song that romanticises the idea of change, the feeling of needing to get away from a cloud that surrounds an individuals headspace," the band said on the track.

New Entry: PVA Premiere Debut Single "Divine Intervention"

London post punk/dance trio PVA have premiered their addictive debut single "Divine Intervention".

The song will be out digitally on 20th December and available on limited 7” on Jan 17th with a Christmas Dub as B-Side by Savage Gary via Speedy Wuderground.

UPDATE 16/12/2019: "Divine Intervention" is our new Single of the Week!

PVA are Josh Baxter (keys/vocals), Louis Satchell (drums) and Ella Harris (vocals/keys/percussion), they formed at a house party two years ago. 

About the track, Ella Harris says: "'Divine Intervention' is about getting lost in memories and past experiences, coming to resolution within yourself and growing from these experiences to be a fuller, more rounded version of yourself. It's very cathartic being able to contrast these personal, quite sad at times lyrics against such an upbeat track - the euphoria of dance music cures all."

New Entry: The Hazy Seas Drop New Single "Heavy Heads"

Chicago, IL dream-pop/indie pop band  The Hazy Seas have dropped their new single "Heavy Heads."

This is the first single from the band's forthcoming s/t debut album due January 2020.

Drawing inspiration from 80's new wave, early 2000's NYC rock, and the dance punk of early acclaimed Foals, the four stuck to a do-it-yourself ethos by recording themselves in a coach house living room on cassette tape machines. After a period of organically playing shows around Chicago and the Midwest, the group is entering 2020 with a proper debut release.

Shopping Announce New LP 'All or Nothing', Stream "Initiative"

London post-punk trio Shopping have announced the release of their new album titled 'All or Nothing'.

The follow-up to 2018's The Official Body, is "a record that speaks about commitment, leaps of faith and tests of courage", and will be release on February 7, 2020, via Fat Cat Records. Pre-order your copy here.

“A lot has happened in our personal lives since we last recorded and we knew this album was going to reflect that exciting and scary feeling that comes with change, heartbreak and personal evolution”, the band explains.

Since their last record the band are now spread across the globe with Billy in LA and Andrew and Rachel in Glasgow, and the songs were written in a two week intensive period while they were all together. Taking a bold leap towards pop with their most vibrant & punchy production to date, mixed and produced by Nick Sylvester.

The band have also shared the video for their new single "Initiative". In a press release, the band said, “We found ourselves singing about being true to yourself, in an often binary and belligerent digital age, and reclaiming agency when it feels like our personal freedom and privacy is constantly eroding.”

Watch: The Courteeners Drop Music Video For "Better Man"

Manchester indie-rockers The Courteeners have dropped the video for their newest single "Better Man".

The video for 'Better Man' is the second instalment of a three-part collaboration between Courteeners and acclaimed author Emma Jane Unsworth. Courteeners began working with Unsworth after Liam Fray asked her to write something specifically for the band. The story she delivered - titled Better - has been made into a short film that comprises of three Courteeners videos. Parts two and three will follow.
