Sports Team Unleash New Single/Video "The Drop"

London indie rock band Sports Team have unveiled the video for their new single "The Drop"

The song is taken from their sophomore album 'GULP!', which will be out on September 22 via Island Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about the song, the band say, “It’s questioning a constant striving for achievement, never really enjoying the moments and ‘Katie dying waiting for the right time to retire’. Today the internet told me they’ve found ‘pits on the moon where humans could comfortably live and work’, brilliant.”

Working with director, filmmaker and architect A.T. Mann for the accompanying video, Mann adds, “When I stepped through the sonic journey of The Drop I dreamed of a poet caught in his own urban web of city lights, stuck there as the mind is being lost, knowing there is only one way out – letting it all go. Letting all the nonsense boundaries drop, taking the one leap into the unknown like the soul of the acrobat about to fly – or fall – stepping along the highwire of the one important quest - Creation. This reminded me of a beatnik poem by Laurence Ferenghetti called ‘Constantly Risking Absurdity’.”

Stereolab Unveil "Simple Headphone Mind" & "Trippin"

Anglo-French avant-pop band Stereolab have share two new tracks "Simple Headphone Mind" & "Trippin", off their forthcoming compilation Pulse of the Early Brain [Switched On Volume 5]

The collection will be out on Sept 2nd via Warp Records and Duophonic UHF Disks. This time out it's 'Simple Headphone Mind' and 'Trippin' with the Birds' from their 1997 collaborative 12" with Nurse With Wound getting an airing.

Simple Headphone Mind was the second collaboration between Stereolab and Nurse With Wound. As with their first release, Crumb Duck, Stereolab recorded the basic track and then handed it over to Steven Stapleton to do with as he pleased. Unlike with Crumb Duck, listeners can hear the original Stereolab recording, as it was issued under the title 'The Long Hair of Death' on a split single with Yo La Tengo; this version was also featured on Stereolab's Aluminum Tunes compilation album.

Suede Share New Single "15 Again"

British alternative rock Suede have shared their new single "15 Again".

Described by Brett Anderson as “a song about falling in love with life for the first time”, it is taken from their forthcoming ninth studio album 'Autofiction', which will be out 16th September via BMG. Pre-order your copy here.

“Autofiction has a natural freshness, it's where we want to be,” says Anderson. And where The London Suede want to be is, in a way, the same place as they were when they began 30 years ago – a group of people living off the raw sensation of creating music together in a room.

This natural freshness can be heard anew in “15 Again.” “When we were rehearsing and writing this record it was this sheer, physical rush. That thing where you're hanging on for dear life,” bass player Mat Osman adds.

FUR Release New Single "Her"

Brighton-based indie rock quarter FUR have released their new single "Her" alongside an accompanying music video

The song is taken from their upcoming EP 'Oldies & Goldies' set for release on August 26. Get it here.

FUR’s frontman William Murray had this to say about “Her”: "Her is a notepad of doodles in song for, a collection of thoughts and feelings that don’t necessarily connect with each other, laid out in no order written straight off the tongue due to how the music I had written made me feel. There's a sort of detachment that comes from songs that don’t get released despite being popular among ourselves and rerecording them is almost like a time machine. Singing the words and tapping into that place I was in 6 years ago was a really nice experience."

Murray went on to note that Oldies & Goldies “is something we had spoken about doing for a while but never really went ahead with it until now. We had tracks that we first released as a band and although they had gained some popularity, they weren’t what we felt was a good representation of us, bedroom recording and we quite quickly found our musical feet a bit more after these songs were out so the decision was to wipe them from the catalog. Throughout the years we see countless comments of ‘add Eyes to Spotify’ or ‘when are you gonna release Creature’. Releasing the same versions that we removed for the reasons we did, seemed counterproductive, however re-recording them and seeing if they still stood up was an exciting challenge that we wanted to give a go at. It's been a really beautiful and refreshing release to have worked on and now these songs that started us out, get to live on."

KEG words: "Written from the perspective of a person who has been subjected to sonic torture and forgotten their body and soul. Dendrons Drop New Single "Vain Repeating"

Chicago-based post punk/alt band Dendrons have dropped their new single "Vain Repeating".

The song is taken from their forthcoming second full-length album '5-3-8', set to be released on August 26 via Innovative Leisure. Pre-order it here

"Vain Repeating" changes tact from the jungle-inflected world of "New Outlook II" finding the band tapping into a punkier sound, switching flows and dynamics in a similar fashion to Magazine, Wire, etc. Speaking about the track, Dane Jarvie of the band says: "The song was created as a word pastiche of inconsequential data, spit out in aura of self-importance. The song deals with a loose promise of either cathartic piety, or vanity, through repetition, depending on who you’re talking to."
