Single of the Week January 17/2014: The Hidden Cameras "Year of the Spawn"

Pre-order your copy here now!

With 'Year of the Spawn', there are trumpets, trombones, a French horn, and behind this thicket, between the ghostly overtones, the ice-cold drum beat of Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” flickers throughout the second verse. Chilly Gonzales is on the piano. Band leader, Joel Gibb works like a graphic artist, he engineers meticulous sound-sculptures and collages whose exactitude stays concealed at first behind an aesthetic of extremely harmonious, yet also dreary, pop music.

Watch: Savages Premiere Music Video For "Strife"

London post-punk band Savages have premiered the video for "Strife", another cut taken from their debut full-length 'Silence Yourself', released in May last year via Pop Noire Records.

The film is a play on human instincts and desire for survival, echoing the famous beach murder scene in the novel 'The Stranger' by Albert Camus.

"We wanted to make a video that focused on a timeless human physicality and physical expression, a search for understanding through the movement, action and reaction of two characters. We chose the classical landscape of the empty beach. A fight ensues between two men: one older, one younger; a tragic outcome, and death."
