From the band: “The track follows the love story of Track and Trace as they navigate their relationship through 2020. Speaking about the title track, frontman Brandon Hagen said: “The beginnings of this song came about as I was binge watching film noir and burning through books on neuroplasticity. The subconscious and subconscious fear are big things in a lot of film noir, so I had that on my mind—sequences of abstract and surreal images to convey an inner world that has its own dream logic. Shortly after, my dad had a life-threatening emergency heart surgery and subsequent stroke. I finished the song between visits to the hospital, not knowing whether my dad would survive. The entire thing was surreal; the hospitals in the age of COVID, the looming specter of death hanging over us, the bizarre timing of his accident with what I’d been reading and writing.”

Watch: Loose Fit Premiere New Single/Video "Exhale"

Sydney no wave/post punk quartet Loose Fit have premiered the video for their new single "Exhale".

The song is out today (November 9) through FatCat Records. Get it here.

Speaking about it, singer Anna Langdon says: "'Exhale' has a sense of momentum musically which is perfect for the theme of being dragged or pulled or drifting away from something and towards something else. I think the song communicates a tension between letting go, falling deeply into desire, into passion, and trying to maintain steadiness in the process. I think it's about an inner struggle for sure."

New Entry: Leif Erikson Air New Single "Waiting for a Brighter Day"

London indie rock/pop band Leif Erikson have aired their new single "Waiting for a Brighter Day".

‘Waiting for a Brighter Day’ is a welcome return for the band, continuing to push the limits of their epic yet intimate sound. Produced and recorded by lead singer and songwriter Sam Johnston, the track took on a new meaning during the lockdown: “I think we were all waiting for a brighter day and perhaps we still are considering all the problems we face as human beings. Personally this song has become a bit of a motto for me. Everyone can relate to feeling like the world is against them but in those moments it is important to remember that better times are round the corner. I will always be able to sing this song with truth and feeling.”

Leif Erikson’s transatlantic, emotive and effortlessly-accomplished work to date is the result of five unique life journeys, brought together under the namesake of a little-known Icelandic explorer believed by many to have been the first Westerner to reach the shores of America. Lead singer and guitarist Sam Johnston’s socially conscious lyrics project a disarming honesty. Here are songs which offer the kind of thoughtful interiority that, while grounded in astute observation, feel instantly relatable to anybody struggling to find meaning and comfort amidst the hectic concerns of modern living. These are, nevertheless, songs of steely resistance, which seek freedom wherever you can find it.

Placebo Announce New LP 'Never Let Me Go', Stream "Surrounded By Spies"

UK alt-rock band Placebo have announced the release of their eighth studio album 'Never Let Me Go'.

The follow-up to 2013's Loud Like Love, will be out on March 25, 2022, featuring their new single "Surrounded By Spies" and their previous track "Beautiful James". Pre-order your copy here.

Talking about ‘Surrounded by Spies’, vocalist Brian Molko says:

I began writing the lyrics when I discovered my neighbours were spying on me on behalf of parties with a nefarious agenda. I then began to ponder the countless ways in which our privacy has been eroded and stolen since the introduction of worldwide CCTV cameras that now employ racist facial recognition technologies; the rise of the internet and the cellphone, which has turned practically every user into a paparazzo and spectators in their own lives, and how we have mostly all offered up personal information to enormous multinationals whose sole intent is to exploit us.

I used the cut-up technique invented by William S Burroughs and popularized in modern song by David Bowie. It’s a true story told through a lens of paranoia, complete disgust for modern society’s values and the deification of surveillance capitalism. The narrator is at the end of their tether, hopeless and afraid, completely at odds with our newfound progress and the god of money.
