New Entry: Planet Premiere New Single "Save.Sold"

Sydney indie rock/pop band Planet have premiered their excellent new single "Save.Sold".

The song is taken from their forthcoming debut EP, expected later this year. It was engineered with the band’s vocalist Matty Took, mixed by Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels, Little Bastard),  and mastered by Steve Smart. We have previously herad the EP's first single "Aching Dream".

About the song, guitarist Tom Peppitt said: “It’s a big step in a different direction to our last tune ‘Aching Dream’, this one having more drive and grit to it, but the two tracks set the tone for our forthcoming EP. We felt like ‘Save.Sold’ had a lot of organic energy when we were jamming it up in the Central Coast, so Matt and I spent our time in the studio pulling dirtier guitar tones and bigger sounds. It’s got a real industrial vibe to it and is definitely one of the heavier tracks off the EP.”

Speaking of the video, the band said: “The song itself is a refers to a build up of aggression and discontent with one’s self and how carrying that heavy weight on your back leads to more problems. The video portrays a slightly different image for certain reasons, but gives off a similar feeling to the message of the song. It follows the struggle of a young business man who is consumed with the desire to flaunt his currency and act a fool. Haunted by a demon he cannot see, he tries to find ways to deal with what he truly is”.

Watch: Jo Passed Release Music Video For New Single "MDM"

Vancouver indie rock/noise pop/alt band Jo Passed have revealed the video for their new single "MDM".

The song is taken from the band's forthcoming debut album 'Their Prime', set to arrive on May 25 through Sub Pop Records. Pre-order your copy here.

The nicest thing anyone has ever – ever – said to Jo Hirabayashi, frontman of Jo Passed, is that his band's debut album sounds like “fucked-up Beatles”.

Their Prime does sound like fucked-up Beatles. It sounds like Lennon and McCartney discovered Can and Neu!, and maybe a little Sonic Youth and XTC along the way. It demonstrates that timeless knack for dreamy melodies – chord progressions that sound like they were created in a land far, far away. Lyrically, however, it’s imbued with a philosophical longing for answers to questions that have resurfaced for the first time since the explosion of counterculture in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The video was directed by Eleanor Petry. Watch it below.

New Entry: Lusts Return With New Single "Heavy Thoughts"

Leicester alternative/new wave duo Lusts (aka brothers Andy and James Stone) have returned with their brand new single "Heavy Thoughts".

With lyrics partly inspired by J.G Ballard’s High Rise, Andrew speaks on the track:

“We always want to juxtapose ideas and themes — looking for a utopia in the darkness. We wanted to create a song that simultaneously revelled in destructiveness, whilst also critiquing it. The book really shocked me growing up, and continues to do so. This track is about pushing us to explore parts of ourselves and the people around us.”

The track was also inspired by the immersive visuals of Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker, James saying:

“As writers, we’re constantly drawn to how visual imagery can explain a feeling in a more honest and visceral way than a description ever could. We want to create alternative landscapes and worlds to dive into and lose yourself for awhile.”

The band released their debut album 'Illuminations' in 2015.

“Summer Days” is a new take on the classic ALPACA SPORTS sound and finds the group incorporating more lush arrangements inspired by bands like ABBA, SAINT ETIENNE, THE HIT PARADE, AZTEC CAMERA and BELLE AND SEBASTIAN. Director Carl Jirestedt describes the new video as a tribute to mysterious unlabeled VHS cassettes. The video takes the ALPACAS on a four minute adventure from a Gothenburg apartment all the way to the bottom of the ocean.
