Soaked Oats Announce Debut LP 'Working Title', Stream "The Way It Works"

New Zeland indie/sludge-pop rockers Soaked Oats have announced the release of their debut studio album 'Working Title'.

Produced by Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Marlon Williams, The Chills), engineered by Tom Bell (David Kilgour and the Heavy Eights), and mastered by Christian Wright (Abbey Road Studios, Fontaines DC), the album delves into new sonic territory, with inspiration coming from 60’s psychedelia and dance-rock among others. It will be out on Friday 18th November via Dot Dash. Pre-order your copy here.

Written and recorded over the last eighteen months, the New Zealand four-piece group’s first full-length album explores the contrasting ways we perceive and interact with the world, how we define ourselves through work, And the subtle shift from viewing objects in the world as fixed ‘things’, to experiencing them as processes and interactions unfolding.

Of the first single, "The Way It Works" lead vocalist Oscar Mein reveals: “A dream got me started on this song and the record as a whole. A pretty dreadful dream where a giant arm reached out from the dark to greet me, and each time I tried to shake it, my hand would go limp and slip away, or I’d get hold of a finger and cling on. The more desperately I tried to shake the hand, the more I sensed this impatience and disappointment growing from who or whatever was on the other side.

We tried recording it a few times over the month we were in Haast. Each time it knotted the stomach of the room, and we’d have to take a break till it became this almost taboo thing to bring up. Finally, on one of our last nights in the hall - having recorded the bones of the record - we decided to let loose a touch to see what happened. Like a child we’d accidentally scared off, the song cautiously came back into the room, parts began building, the hand reached out, and we received it. And that is the way…” — Oscar Mein

Drahla Return With New Single "Under The Glass"

Leeds/Wakefield garage punk three-piece Drahla have returned with their new single "Under The Glass".

The song is the first taste of their sophomore as yet mostly unwritten album, the follow-up to their 2019 debut 'Useless Coordinates'.

The band had the following to say about the themes behind the song: '"Under the Glass' represents a moment of creative reconnection, almost a sense of euphoria in the darkest moments - an awaited, yet slight, respite from reality. The song is a collage, reworking early ideas from 2020 with newer work - bridging the gap of time, in the literal sense as well as musically. The lyrics are deliberately vague, using metaphor to interpret personal experience and emotion of loss and grief."

Shady Baby Unleash New Single "Lonely Town"

Brighton-based indie rock/alt band Shady Baby (led by Sam Leaver) have unleashed their new single "Lonely Town".

The track weaves American 90’s Indie-tinged swagger with classic rock riffs and drive-time radio pop hooks.

This is one to file alongside Janes Addiction, Foo Fighters and Weezer. It comes after their debut single 'Come To Life' and makes up the A/A release available on 7” out via UK label Nice Swan Records.

Inspired by the sounds of Madchester & Britpop, and with a love for John Cooper Clarke, Leaver began making his own brand of angst-ridden pop during the height of lockdown where songs were formed out of frustration whilst locked in his bedroom.

Having approached Brighton-based producer Theo Verney (English Teacher, FEET, FUR, Egyptian Blue, TRAAMS etc) with his early demos, the two instantly formed a musical bond that has seen them work closely together in the studio ever since and Verney has helped hone the exciting sound of the debut tracks of Shady Baby.
