Planet Announce Debut Album 'Information Overload'

Sydney indie rock/pop band Planet have announced the release of their highly-anticipated debut studio album 'Information Overload'.

The 12-track record will feature recent singles ‘Resign’ and ‘Ship Won’t Change’, and will be out on March 11, 2022. Pre-order your copy here.

Sonically 'Information Overload' feels like a warm, whisky-soaked dream. With moments that conjure memories of The Verve or The War On Drugs, it’s an album that feels bright and effervescent. Each song floats from one to the next, with an atmosphere that permeates the entire thing.

Frontman Matty Took described the recording process as “a bit of an Ocean’s Eleven sort of vibe”, with the band tracking most of it in a clandestine fashion.

“I met this guy at a party,” Took explained. “We were kind of on a bit of a bender and he was like, ‘I work at AIM [the Australian Institute of Music]. I do all the troubleshooting for their microphones. Man, no one’s using the studio, you should just come in and record.’”

Lead guitarist Tommy Peppit noted that the band spent roughly two years working on ‘Information Overload’, producing and mixing it themselves alongside collaborator Adrian Bushby (Muse, Foo Fighters, U2). “We’ve put a lot of effort into it and we all feel pretty comfy with it now,” he said.

“Every track has its purpose and I feel Matty has definitely opened up lyrically a bit more touching on struggles that most of us face in relation to mental health and relationships.”

New Entry: Creux Lies Share New Single "PS Goodnight"

Sacramento, California post-punk/new wave/dark wave band Creux Lies have shared their new single "PS Goodnight".

The song is part of your current playlist and s taken from their brand new album 'Goodbye Divine', out today, October 15 via Freakwave. Grab your copy  here.

“The fountain of my friendships of youth flowed over with golden moments of meaning. From a young age to old, through the joy and tragedy… the entirety of my friendships, both short and long, fed/feed my roots and branches as I became/become. Terribly and inescapably, some of my divinyls left this world too soon. PS Goodnight is simply a story of the riches of friendship and the inevitability of mortal poverty. Technically and sonically, this track was sculpted from the base and beautiful guitar composition from Barry’s writing flurry. Like the other tracks of this album created in individual isolation, it landed on a mentally blurry day during the shutdown on the studio speakers of my forest set cottage like a sun-laced cloud. The hidden joy beamed through the grey melody. It was easy to let the rain come.” – Ean

Johnny Marr Announces New Album 'Fever Dreams Pts 1-4'

Johnny Marr, former guitarist of The Smiths and top indie legend, has announced the release of his new album 'Fever Dreams Pts 1-4'.

Fever Dreams Pts 1-4; explores a multitude of concepts and themes. Written and recorded at the Crazy Face Factory over the last year, ‘Fever Dreams Pts 1-4’ was created with Marr’s long-standing band: co-producer Doviak, bassist Iwan Gronow, drummer Jack Mitchell, and features backing vocals throughout the album from the Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Meredith Sheldon, with three songs featuring bass from Primal Scream’s Simone Marie.

New Entry: SPRINTS Drop New Single "Modern Job"

Dublin-based post-punk/garage band SPRINTS have unleashed their new single "Modern Job".

The song is taken from their forthcoming new EP ‘Modern Job’ set to arrive on March 11th via Nice Swan Records. Grab it here

Lyrically, Modern Job finds singer Karla Chubb at her sardonic and angry best, detailing her own personal wish-list “I wish I had the guts/I wish I had the gall/ I wish I had a girl” – all set to cascading guitars and a formidable rhythm section; working in unison to create unrelenting tension, all the while echoing the subject matter Chubb explores in her lyrics.

On the new single, singer Karla Chubb says: “Modern Job is a critique of modern existence but also an exploration of growing up queer. In your formative years, you are bombarded with media, books, news that depict what a “normal” life should be. Grow up, fall in love, get married… long live the nuclear family.

By contrast when you grow up queer all these ordinary things can seem extraordinary, out of reach and in some parts of the world, illegal. It leaves you feeling lost, excluded and confused. I wanted Modern Job to capture those feelings; chaotic energy, loneliness and longing of normality while trying to find acceptance within yourself.”

Sprints combine guitar-driven hooks, motoric rhythm and emotive lyricism to create a unique sound that pulls from garage, grunge, punk and beyond. Like the Irish guitar acts who have paved the way for them: Fontaines D.C., Silverbacks and Girl Band, the sound of Sprints is urgent and vital at every turn.

Sprints have hit a nerve. Driven by experience, tough political climates and social and economic uncertainty – their music is honest, often politically charged and authentic.

Watch: Rats On Rafts Reveal New Single/Video "Osaka"

Dutch punk-laced noiseniks Rats On Rafts have revealed a live video for their new single "Osaka".

The song is out today (October 14) and is the follow-up to their album 'Excerpts From Chapter 3: The Mind Runs A Net Of Rabbit Paths', released earlier this year through Fire Records. Get it here.

Taking inspiration from a brief visit in Osaka touring with Franz Ferdinand, ‘Osaka’ is an awayday with a difference that echoes Robert Smith while we reach a warp speed space rock trajectory. A track from the new album’s outtakes, it’s an anthem for a mighty city and, as tour guides to future hybrid sounds go, Rotterdam’s Rats On Rafts give new meaning to the concept of a “TRIP” advisor.

Singer David Fagan, explains: “The song has become one of our favourites to play live. The music video was recorded live as part of our music film for ‘Visions Of Chapter 3..’. Because of restrictions it was impossible to play our new album live so we recorded a live show in which many different art forms are combined. We always wanted to create a live music-video with an arranged feel, the music, dance, visuals - it’s all live!”

New Entry: Pictish Trail "Natural Successor (Django Django Fazed and Confused remix)"

Scottish label owner/producer/singer-songwriter Johnny Lynch aka Pictish Trail has dropped the Django Django remix of his newest single "Natural Successor".

The song "a purgative surrender to nature’s whim driven by a clattering machine drumbeat and rolled in a puddle of filthy dirty fuzz", will be out on October 22 via Lost Map Records/Fire Records, featuring exclusive remixes by Django Django and Makeness. Buy your copy here.

“Going into the bothy, the intention had been to write about connecting with my surroundings, feeling ‘at one’ with the island,” says Johnny. “With ‘Natural Successor’, I quickly discovered it was more about the desire to surrender to nature’s whim. Letting nature take charge. I was imagining all the different natural disasters joining forces, and wreaking havoc on mankind.

“I’d been reading about earthquakes caused by fracking, man’s responsibility for global warming, oil fires, etc. All these Manufactured Disasters. Then, throughout the pandemic, seeing all the horrible stuff that we do to one another, the fault lines we’ve created in society that separate us. Whether it’s a pandemic, or the destructive effects of climate change, there are definitely some days where I think we deserve the revenge the planet is taking upon us.

“Not quite sure that ‘Natural Successor’ eloquently captures all this, mind you... but it was a cathartic experience playing a big dumb riff over and over again. Would recommend.”

New Entry: Sea Power Unveil New Single "Folly"

UK indie/alt band Sea Power (FKA British Sea Power) have unveiled their new single “Folly”.

The song is taken from their forthcoming new album 'Everything Was Forever', set to be released on February 11, 2022 via the band’s own label Golden Chariot. Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about it, guitarist Martin Noble had said: “‘Folly’ is in the tradition of singalong Sea Power apocalyptic anthems—everyone ambling down the road to a multitude of catastrophes. Party on! You might find yourself standing up on the South Downs, up on the fells or the dales, looking down at the world, a world where we seem to avoid the decisions and changes to stop the rot. It’s all folly, but in this case set to some pretty life-affirming music—good stuff underpinning the donut vibes and maybe making you think it’s not all over, not quite, not yet.”

Vocalist/guitarist Neil Hamilton Wilkinson added: “I was thinking of things like greedy overlords playing fart games on the lawns of their great dominions, the enclosure of common lands, bodies, minds, the fantastical gusto of doom and frivolity that feeds the world, me included. I was feeling all on edge, paranoid like the old vampire in Nosferatu when I got into this song.”

New Entry: Egyptian Blue Return New Single "Salt"

Brighton psychedelic-punk/post punk band Egyptian Blue have returned with their punchy new single "Salt".

The song, produced by long-time collaborator Theo Verney (English Teacher, Lazarus Kane, FUR), is out now through Yala Records and is the first glimpse of their highly anticipated debut album, which will be released in 2022. Get it here.

‘Salt’ finds the band’s taut pin-point rhythms providing the fuel for their energised cocktail of euphoria and exasperation. The track captures a ticking time bomb of suppressed anxieties about the world around us.

Singer Andy Buss opens the track with the lines “I’ve been chasing my own tail, laughing out of every single pore, don’t wanna talk about it…”,  Andy explains: “the song came from a series of anxiety dreams containing monotonous behaviours that felt like walls closing in. That sense of chasing my own tail. Jumping into the dark pit of the pandemic only served to heighten this”.

The explosive chorus of ‘Salt’ is aimed at shouting down the gang of emotions that stems from the fake smiles of our feverish world. Andy goes on to explain: “I’d been reading this book called ‘On Solitude’ by Michel De Montaigne and we’d been discussing it on a slow ferry to Dublin. When I wrote ‘Salt’, seeing the world as a feverish dream, the book resonated with my sense that we can cover-up emotions and nervous energy with a veil of pretending to be ok”.
