Hot Garbage Announce Debut LP 'RIDE', Stream "Sometimes I Go Down"

Toronto psych-rock/post-rock/krautrock quartet Hot Garbage have announced the release of their debut studio album 'RIDE'.

The 9-track album was produced by Graham Walsh (from Canadian electronica band Holy Fuck) and will be available on October 29th through Mothland. Pre-order your copy here.

Drawing on the sounds of Sonic Youth and contemporaries such as Wand, L.A. Witch and Kikagaku Moyo, "Sometimes I Go Down" arrives as the opening track from RIDE setting the tone for the rest of the record with a motorik rhythm section with deep organ drones and dual vocals resonating throughout alongside fuzzy guitars. Speaking about the single, guitarist/lead vocalist, Alex Carlevaris says: "It’s okay to feel down sometimes and need space. We as people have to accept that, allow that and have a healthy and realistic idea about having shitty days, feeling like shit and still loving ourselves. Also recognizing that others around us may need it and being patient with people."

RIDE effectively mends core elements of 60s and 70s psych music, post-punk and desert rock with otherworldly textures, sometimes in a vaporous way, other times with quaking soundwaves. Along its 33 minutes, the foursome takes the listener through a multitude of terrains where cinematic soundscapes await behind the initial haze of reverberations and fuzz-heavy riffs.

Watch: Paragon Cause Air New Single/Video "Two To Play"

Toronto indie rock/post punk/dance punk duo Paragon Cause (aka Jay Bonaparte and Michelle Opthof) have aired the video for their new single "Two To Play".

The song is taken from their recent album 'Autopilot', which came out this month (August 13) via Analogue Trash. Get your copy here.

From the duo: "Two to Play was the first song we recorded for the Autopilot sessions with Sune Rose Wagner (The Raveonettes). At first, we didn’t like it and we almost deleted it, and now it’s one of our favorite songs on the album. We I wanted a dreamy shoegaze, powerful kind of song, and that’s what we ended up with. The emotion of the music was critical, we wanted the intro to be very simple and classic sounding, purposely a bit raw. Then, as the character in the song comes to an epiphany, the music widens and opens up. We are proud we were able to capture that. Ironically, the song is about doing things for yourself and not allowing others to influence your decisions. But at the same time, it felt like a game a person can play with themselves. So we asked ourselves, who plays the game? That brought us to the idea of creating a video game, but in a modern retro futuristic 8bit Halifax, Canada. Again the idea of time came into play. We connected with an animator, Luigi Salas and pitched our story. A women lost in a crowd of brainwashed followers. The demon preacher is actually, the ‘ghost’ on the cover over the Autopilot album. The women attempts to escape the demon preacher who never catches her but, regardless, she can not escape her demons and was part of the game. We also wanted to write a bit of a love letter to the late 90’s/early 2000’s Halifax Music Scene. We worked hard to put a lot of Easter Eggs in there. Halifax inspired us to be musicians and the nod is a bit of a thank you."

The song is taken from their forthcoming sophomore album 'Horizons', which will be available on October 15. Pre-order your copy here.

We’ve all experienced moments when boundaries have been crossed, whether by ourselves or someone else, and there’s no going back. Too Late is about that moment of alienation- the point of no return. It’s almost a two-sided monologue, it’s a warning/reminder but also a kind of satisfying break-up song about being strong enough to cut someone off who has wronged you emotionally, romantically, or even professionally: That’s it, you’re cut off. But: “you did it to yourself.

New Entry: Gold & Youth Drop New Single "The Worse The Better"

Canadian indie rock/alt band Gold & Youth have dropped their new single "The Worse The Better".

The song is taken from their forthcoming eighth studio album 'Dream Baby', which will be available on November 5 through Paper Bag Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Dream Baby maps these complexities over a sharp, saccharine web of sounds: Bowie-ish art-rock, Leonard Cohen’s sardonic piano wit, throbbing new wave, and alt-pop that darts between arena ambition and bedroom cynicism. Lyall’s vision here is sprawling and maximalist with a healthy hint of the apocalyptic and the absurd—an aesthetic and tonal match for our times. It’s a fitting melange for a record that ricochets, dazed, past the horrors of extraction capitalism, imperialism, and white supremacy, but all the while clinging for dear life to the comfort and power of interpersonal relations and the possibilities they suggest.

About the song, the band said: "‘The Worse the Better’ is a fun little bop about water-sliding into the abyss. A woozy anthem for the downwardly mobile about the crushing banality of evil rendered by the acid vat of late-stage capitalism as we work dead-end jobs at the end of history and pray for some technocratic savior to build us a biodome on Mars. Loud and fast and then sputtering and wheezing, kind of like a dream machine going kaputt as it runs out of gas."

New Entry: Jack Wakeman & The Dreamstriders Air Debut Single "Visions"

Glasgow-based indie rock/alt pop band Jack Wakeman & The Dreamstriders have aired their debut single "Visions".

The type of music a medieval bard would make if he got lost in time and space and woke up in the 21st century, a mellifluous melting pot of heavy synthesisers, chorussed 12 string guitars, punchy drums and melodic bass lines dusted with theatrical arrangements of classical and folk music instrumentation.

Songwriter and composer Jack Wakeman has his material brought to a live audience with the help of his four piece backing band The Dreamstriders on a quest to find the holy grail of sound.

Born in Doncaster, Yorkshire Jack grew up on a diet of 60s & 70s pop courtesy of his grandparent’s radio and his Grandad (who had been in a band with Mick Ronson) singing songs on acoustic guitar. Through his teens Jack would hide himself away everyday after school learning to play the various instruments laying around in his grandparent’s garage.

Later disillusioned by the lack of opportunities in the former mining town Jack relocated to Manchester in 2013 where he worked as a session bassist/ guitarist for members of New Order and The Fall plus BC Camplight, Ethan & The Reformation, Granfalloon, Gabrielles Wish, Maddy Storm and more.

Depression, anxieties and self destruction brought on by heavy psychedelic drug use and excessive alcohol consumption led to bouts of mental illness overcome in part by turning to paganism explain why Jack’s writing focuses on his apocalyptic optimism, societal standpoints and determined betterment of mental health, often through the lens of folklorish romanticism.

New Entry: 10 000 Russos Drop New Single "Station Europa"

Portuguese cosmic drone/psych trio 10 000 Russos have dropped their new single "Station Europa".

The song is taken from the band's upcoming fifth studio album 'Superinertia', set to arrive on September 10th via Fuzz Club Records.

Whilst the sound might be transforming, one constant is in the band’s founding mission to make “submersive music with subversive lyrics”. Evidence of their not wanting to shy away from uncomfortable truths, ‘Station Europa’ certainly fulfills on both fronts – with guitarist Pedro Pestana describing it as “a twisted anthem for the end of Europe, in which the once-sacred French words Liberté, Égalité and Fraternité are contradicted by a heritage of bureaucracy that gets in the way of a fellow member’s call for help.”

Geese Announce Debut LP 'Projector', Stream "Low Era"

Brooklyn indie rock/post punk band Geese have announced the release of their debut studio album 'Projector'.

The 9-track record will be released on October 29 and physically on December 3 via Partisan Records and Play It Again Sam. Pre-order your copy here

Geese is a band that begins and ends in Brooklyn, as a project between friends to build a home studio out of a basement. Their songs are born from the same ambition: make music by any means necessary. They began recording together with sneakers as mic stands and blankets draped over the amps, all within the afternoon following a school day, up until they ran the risk of noise complaints. Recently, they signed a record deal, so they are thinking about moving on from sneaker-laden mics and blanketed amps, but their musical ethos has not changed a bit.

Curiously alien, yet strangely familiar, Projector, is a product of five teenagers whose love of music touches every part of their lives: their restless anxiety about their futures, and their pent-up frustration with their present-a perspective all too familiar in today’s uncertain world.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for their brand new single "Low Era", below.

Levin Goes Lightly Announce New LP 'Rot', Stream "Flirren"

Germann lo-fi/psych pop/synthwave band Levin Goes Lightly have announced the release of their new album 'Rot'.

According to the press release, the follow-up to 2019's Nackt, is more epic and filigree and will be released on November 5 via Tapete Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Levin finally wanted to get away from the one-man band image, and especially during the isolation of the Corona period - without appearances and rehearsals together - he dreamed of loud, driving live music with epic, big moments, loud guitars, real drums, deeper ones Bass. Collectively as a band, we worked continuously on the songs with Thomas Zehnle and Paul Schwarz, as far as it was possible due to the pandemic.

This desire for more toughness led Levin Stadler, who continues to write the lyrics alone, to more intimate, but equally explicit and direct lyrics (“I turn and bend, shoot me, give me your kiss, lover”). For the first time, both languages, German and English, are represented on the album.

“Red” is clearly the most personal and intimate work to date, hence the choice of the title with the most emotionally charged color. Shortly before the lockdown isolation, the singer's long standing relationship broke up, also due to this existential experience of being alone, most of the songs on the album deal with the subjects of anger, love and desire. There are parallels to Roxy Music, Robert Görl and The Cure - all music Levin grew up with and which influences him to this day.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for new single "Flirren".

Rot Tracklist:
01. Liebhaber

Denmark's rising, self-proclaimed sci-fi pop artist GRETA (aka Greta Schenk), has premiered the video for her new single "Forever We'll Be Dancing".

The song is the title track from her upcoming sophomore album.

Forever We'll Be Dancing is a declaration of love for Greta's husband. “My husband has been struggling with depression since we met and it was the worst last spring. One of the things that has helped him get out of it was actually something as simple as physical movement. To swim and dance. To feel free from all the heavy for a while. It became the focal point for me when I wrote the song. The lyrics are full of water metaphors, and the phrase 'Forever We'll Be Dancing' means to me that we can overcome everything and will always dance together through life, no matter how much it goes up or down, " says Greta.

Watch: YVETTE Shares New Single/Video "Contact High"

New York avant garde/experimental/neo-no wave artist YVETTE (aka Noah Kardos-Fein) has shared the video for his new single "Contact High".

The song is taken from his upcoming second album 'How The Garden Grows', which will be available on September 17 through Western Vinyl. Pre-order your copy here.

Keeping in line with one of the album's themes, the dynamics of control versus what cannot be controlled, Contact High investigates how our relationships (to ourselves as well as others) are mediated by our methods of communication. To this end, Kardos-Fein suggests that “Our experiences, communications, and memories are refracted, channelled through and carved by multiple means of instant communication and rapid-fire knowledge-sharing. Your presence can be pruned and cultivated. Ideas and systems can be distorted and co-opted in the blink of an eye. It’s beautiful, sublime, dangerous, and terrifying all at once. To what degree do we take these things for granted, on a daily basis passively accepting our heavily mediated reality? We are connected, but do we connect? We are talking to and hearing each other, but are we listening?”

Ellur words: “I wrote Moments last winter after a breakup and it was this really sad, brooding ballad, but it really transformed when we took it to the studio. It became a sort of happier reflection on that relationship and the better times of it. Watch: ONETWOTHREE Reveal New Single/Video "Perfect Illusions"

Swiss post punk band ONETWOTHREE have released the video for their brand new single "Perfect Illusions".

The song is taken from their forthcoming self-titled debut album, which will be available on October 15 through Kill Rock Stars. Pre-order your copy here.

ONETWOTHREE's first album doesn't have a name but that's just as it should be for a band that's deceptively simple, mysterious and yet somehow familiar. Three women bassists/singers from classic Swiss post-punk bands dot their insistent, minimal music with drum patters, synths, chants, commands and joyous wordplay with their sometimes cynical, sometimes sensual take on leisure and consumer culture. The group is appropriately DIY, self-contained and self-produced - their debut was written and played almost entirely by themselves. ONETWOTHREE's songs blend into a whole, creating a momentum and their own kinetic, strange reality which fun-house mirrors our own.

Watch: Motorists Unleash New Single/Video "Surrounded"

Toronto-based motorik jangle-pop trio Motorists have released the video for their new single "Surrounded".

The song is taken from their upcoming debut studio album 'Surrounded', which will be available on September 3 through We Are Time/Bobo Integral/Debt Offensive. Pre-order your copy here.

"Surrounded" arrives with another visual installment created by Craig Fahner and Michelle Lemay, mirroring the aesthetic of earlier singles to draw on the German TV show, Beat Club. The single provides another fervent display of the band's penchant for pop melody and nose-diving guitar riffs.

Thematically, it captures the band’s collective feeling at the start of the COVID lockdown. The song’s narrator, increasingly fed up with the trappings of their surroundings, hops from place to place in an effort to get away from it all. But where on Earth do you go when you feel like there’s “too much water” and “too much land”? “It’s about the impossibility of being alone with one’s self,” guitarist/singer, Craig Fahner says, “since we ultimately construct ourselves within a phenomenological bubble full of some stuff we have chosen and some stuff we have no control over.” Eventually, the narrator ends up back where they started, but the journey comes with a realization that removing yourself from your frustrations only leaves you less equipped to deal with them when hiding is no longer an option.

Moods, motives and expectations can sometimes make us feel like we are caught up in a tornado of emotions when a relationship hits a rocky patch. This song is about the hope that remains even when things are falling apart.

Miles Kane Announces New LP 'Change The Show', Stream "Don’t Let It Get You Down"

British indie rocker Miles Kane has announced the release of his fourth solo album 'Change The Show'.

The follow-up to 2018's Coup De Grace, will be out on 21st January 2022 via BMG. Pre-order it here.

Following a chance “no frills session” with psych-rock duo sunglasses for jaws at the band’s hackney studio, miles’  new album really began to take shape. “I saw myself in their energy, but also their taste and their knowledge of music,” miles explains. “It was the first time i’d felt old!”

Opening with the honest soft croon of ‘Tears Are Falling’, the album is a joyous ride from start to finish and features a surprising, but spectacular appearance from grammy-nominated singer corinne bailey rae for a duet on ‘Nothing’s Ever Gonna Be Good Enough’. It’s an album that best represents miles himself: charmingly authentic, and like nothing else you'll hear in pop music today.

“This album was born out of an intense period of self-reflection; having all this unexpected time on my hands,” miles said of the last 18 months. “I wrote songs about big highs, big lows, daydreams, true friends and deep feelings. i learnt to let the future unfold of its own accord, while staying true to myself and that has led to what feels to me like a really uplifting album!”

A record for fans both new and old, change the show is the miles kane album we’ve all been waiting for. The apotheosis of his previous works, incorporating those classic rock and glam influences, but focusing more closely on motown, soul, and fifties R&B.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for his new single "Don’t Let It Get You Down", below.

Watch: Planet Release Music Video For "Resign"

Sydney indie rock/pop band Planet have released the video for their newest single "Resign".

The song is part of our current playlist and came out  is part of out on August 11. Get it here.

Speaking about it, frontman Matty Took says: “Resign is a pop summer anthem with the instrumentation hitting you straight in the face. Lyrically it’s about not being enough in someone’s eyes, and it affects you to the point of collapse but trying to break past it to make it work.”

Guitarist Tom Peppitt adds: “It’s the first track we’ve released that was written completely in lockdown. I had the chorus laying in the vault and sent it back and forth with Matty, fleshing it out and finishing it off. It was an obvious first single choice for us, doesn’t stray too far from our sound and is super upbeat and catchy.”
