Cathedral Bells Confirm New LP 'Ether', Stream "Dark Aura"

Cassadaga, Florida dream pop/shoegaze band Cathedral Bells (lead by Matthew Messore) have confirmed details of their new album titled 'Ether'.
The follow-up to last year's debut Velvet Spirit, is their first offering as three-piece (Aaron Gollubier, drums; Kyle Hoffer, bass) and will be out on January 29th through Spirit Goth. Pre-save it here.
Speaking about the making of the album and the new members, Messore told NewNoise: "Ether was split between my bedroom studio and Kyle’s studio at home. Which is also where the new album was mixed for higher quality. We try to keep a balance from the lo-fi bedroom soundscape and overall production."
"Aaron and I have similar music tastes and value the same things aesthetically. Aaron’s previous project was on the same label as Cathedral Bells, and he moved from New Jersey to Florida. He eventually started playing/touring with Cathedral Bells. Both Kyle and Aaron understand the sound and vibe for the project, which makes it easier to bring it all together. Kyle has joined most recently this year, and already has been a major part of recording the most recent tracks and mixing the album. A few songs off the new album were written during quarantine, and a few of the latest tracks were contributed by Kyle and Aaron." He added.

Watch: Cathedral Bells Premieres New single/Video "Undertow"
The song, featuring Kim Weldin of Tape Waves, is out today (May 29) through Spirit Goth’s label BIRTHDIY. Get it here.
Messore explains: “This track has actually been in the works for a few years. I imagined a riff that would be played on a 12 string acoustic guitar, and I went from there, working and creating what became “Undertow.” I envisioned layered vocals for this song, kind of a high and low melody. It all came together when I asked Kim Weldin of the band tape waves to do guest vocals for the track. The dreamy aspect of her voice added exactly what I wanted in order to finish the song.”

“This song is a metaphor for the destructive tendencies human beings have in their relationships,” Messore explains. “It speaks about wanting to be open to life and other people but also feeling a need to shut off from everyone completely. ‘Cause I want it all / To crash into the wall’ sometimes we want everything from someone, but then it ends up breaking us down and haunting us.”

Cathedral Bells Details Debut Album 'Velvet Spirit'
Following the release of a debut, self-titled EP at the start of 2019, Cathedral Bells’ first full-length, will see release on vinyl and digitally on March 6th via Good Eye Records.via Good Eye Records. Pre-order your copy here.
The 11-track record is preceded by several singles including “Cemetery Surf” and “A Passing Phase” which drew initial praise from taste-makers including Indie Shuffle who said; “I think Cathedral Bells have struck the perfect balance of throwback synth work, melodic progression and overall shoegazey vibes. The result works in the 80s, the 90s, the naughties and in 2018. And that’s quite good coverage, all things considered.”
