Watch: Idle Youth Share New Single/Video "The Metamorphosis"

London dream pop/indie pop band Idle Youth have shared the video for their new single "The Metamorphosis".

The Metamorphosis takes fragmentary inspiration from the Franz Kafka novel of the same name.; exploring toxicity in ones own thoughts and the conflict created by whats looking back at them. The punchy lyrics are backed up by sparse, yet striking post punk arrangements of cold synths and guitar hooks, keeping that 80’s feel and bringing it to the modern age. In support of the release, the official music video will be released on the same day, as well as a live stream acoustic performance.

Idle Youth on the new track, “We’ve all had those epiphanic moments, both good and bad, where we frantically chart how earth we’ve got to the place we find ourselves in. Almost to the point of not recognising the person we’ve become or once were. This songs for anyone who’s reached that realisation but had the strength to go and pull themselves out of it. And if you aren’t there yet you will be.”

New Entry: Mortal Boy Returns With New Single "Critical Mass"

Los Angeles post punk/dark wave/new wave artist Mortal Boy has returned with his new single "Critical Mass".

Mortal Boy words: "Regardless of my feelings previously I still continue to keep going cause I'm annoyingly determined. here is another song I finished after I watched some ableton live mastering tutorials. with each breathe I take I learn more and understand more no matter how painstaking it is. I wish I was never a producer, it's such tedious and meticulous work 😅 I commend the professionals. Anyway, I might keep this one for my next album I have in the works. ☆Star/Low☆  I took a side road from my usual depressing stuff and went for a SynthPop/Newwave 80s club vibe in this tune. influences from New Order/the human league/soft cell."

New Entry: The Haunted Youth Release New Single "Shadows"

Belgian dream pop/shoegaze/psych pop band The Haunted Youth have released their dreamy new single "Shadows".

Think of Slowdive’s beguiling shoegaze, Beach House’s lulling dream pop and Current Joys’ downtempo guitar indie: that’s how ‘Shadows’ sounds.

"‘Shadows’ is a song about being stuck in a place where you don’t belong, and where nobody understands or even listens to you,” lead singer Joachim Liebens states." It bears the typical THY sound we’ve come to know so well, only a little slower, even more mesmerizing.

The Haunted Youth are playing festivals all over Europe this year, followed by the release of the highly anticipated debut album in November.

The song is out today (March 31) through Mayway Records. Stream it below..

Watch: NNHMN Drop Music Video For "Omen"

Berlin electronic/dark ambient/experimental/synth duo NNHMN (aka Lee and Michal Laudarg) have dropped the video for their latest single "Omen".

From the duo: The world in which incarnations of ancient gods live. The modern urban techno panorama where sinister doom meets ethereal and untouchable higher self...the movie is loosely inspired by the series of Matthew Barney ''Cremaster'' , BDSM culture with Yoshi Yamamoto's touch and the nostalgic memory of The Neverending Story movie - where the better self is fighting with demons and gods of the underworld. A metaphoric dream.

New Entry: Spector Share Unreleased Track "Felony"

London-based indie rock band Spector have shared a previously unreleased song called "Felony".

The song is the final recording taken from the 'Now Or Whenever' sessions, the album came out earlier this year via their Moth Noise imprint. Get it here.

Speaking about the song, frontman Fed Macpherson explains: ”Jed played us an early version ‘Felony’ during the ‘Moth Boys’ sessions and the chorus has been going round my head since. Luckily, like My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless, it only took seven years to finish. It’s the final song of the (covid-extended) ‘Now or Whenever’ era, released to celebrate our tour starting tonight. Will we play it live? Come and see.”

Bandmate Jed Cullen continues: “Sometimes doing absolutely nothing and letting those initial emotions of infatuation fade can uncover a friendship much more beautiful and long lasting than how a more romantic relationship might have gone. It can be really embarrassing to then look back and think that you fancied one of your friends and that’s probably why it took so much convincing from Fred for me to finish writing this song.”

Watch: Weird Nightmare Air New single/Video "Lusitania"

Canada alternative duo Weird Nightmare (the electrifying new project from METZ guitarist and singer Alex Edkins) have aired the video for their new single "Lusitania".

The song is taken from their self-titled album, out May 20th via Sub Pop Records. Pre-order your copy here.

If you’re looking for a raw, sugary blast of distorted pop, look no further than Weird Nightmare. The debut album contains all of his main band’s bite with an unexpected, yet totally satisfying, sweetness. Imagine The Amps covering Big Star, or the gloriously hissy miniature epics of classic-era Guided by Voices combined with the bombast of Copper Blue- era Sugar—just tons of red-line distortion cut with the type of tunecraft that thrills the moment it hits your ears.

Edkins says of the song, “‘Lusitania’ was a big breakthrough for the entire Weird Nightmare album. I realized that, musically,  my goal was to make songs that would make people feel good! This idea of waking up from a terrible dream or winter changing into spring. Momentary relief. We all need that feeling right now and music has always been what I turn to most.” The video for the song was directed by Colin Medley.

With lyrics like ‘I won’t follow where a fool drowns, I’ll see it through until the day I die’, the band say that the moody psychedelic post-punk of ‘Dreamcatcher’ is a song “about defiance against a sense of being held down, an idea which occurs constantly throughout the album.” The single’s new video is the third in a trilogy by film-maker Laura Conlon that also includes lead singles ‘Sad Paradise’ and ‘Into Blue’.

Watch: White Flowers Drop New Single/Video "Are You"

Preston, UK dreampop/noir pop/post punk/shoegaze band White Flowers (Katie Drew and Joey Cobb) have dropped the video for their new single "Are You".

The song is the title track of their upcoming new EP set to arrive on May 13 via Tough Love. Pre-order your copy here.

The EP is a sonic and aesthetic collage drawing deeply from their environmental and social surroundings. The songs on the EP may at first seem delicate and beautiful, but closer listening reveals dark undertones and dry humour fuelled by the frustration of feeling trapped with no way out. Driven by this sense of claustrophobia, the duo have sought to create a form of escapism outside of their physical and geographical limitations.

Recorded late 2021 between Preston and Bristol, ‘Are You’ weaves together a mixture of intuitive home recordings and refined studio production aided by producer Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Portishead, Perfume Genius). The four songs on the EP are an intentional collection of contrasts and paradoxes - beauty and repulsion, calmness and mania, anxiety and stasis - all combined to form a balanced whole.

Sports Team Announce New LP 'GULP!', Stream "R Entertainment"

The follow-up to their 2020's debut album Deep Down Happy, will be released on Friday 22nd July 2022 via Island Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Signposting a bold and ambitious new era for the band, Sports Team explain that new single ‘R Entertainment’ explores “The packaging down of all human experience into entertainment, prompted by the infinite scroll through social feeds and the manic formlessness of the images we are hit with every day. Graphic news interrupted by ads for season 17 of The Bodyguard, news as a rubbernecking, passively waiting for the next drop of horror as we flick through recipes.”

From the band: Well, this is it. Another year, another dollar. We’re back with another album of pumped-up, market-ready indie rock (Plus Zinc!)! So, slip out of your Birkenstock clogs and into something a little less comfortable. An opening salvo for the apocalypse, ‘Gulp!’ Is Nostradamus with a fuzz pedal, Alex Joes doing slam poetry in the last wetherspoons standing after it all goes up in flames. It’s a trojan horse of happy, radio-ready indie rock, but don’t be fooled. The archangels come down from heaven to tell of the GOOD NEWS and are promptly baton-charged. The apocalypse begins and is largely lost in the background hum of instant-gratification, isotonic sports drinks and the weather. You can’t eat your NFTs in the nuclear winter, so grab your colleagues tight and join us in a song. All together now…"

Watch: Oliver Marson Returns New Single/Video "Manipulator"

London-based post punk/synth pop artist Oliver Marson has returned with his new single "Manipulator", and its accompanying music video.

The song, recorded with Joshua Rumble (Black Country New Road, Clockworks) and mixed by Jorge Elbrecht (Ariel Pink, Kirin J Callinan), is out now. Grab it here.

Speaking about it, Marson says: Me and Josh had a lot of fun recording over the pandemic and now its finally time to throw these tracks out into the world. The track also features Christina Lopez (Empathy Test, Lava la Rue). Guitars, synths and vocals are played by myself. We recorded this in the pandemic alongside many other tracks, which will be released this year. When I made this I was very much inspired by the guitar sound of Drab Majesty, whose influences I am sure you will hear. Also mastered by Nick Watson at Fluid Mastering.

“The lyrics were very much inspired by what was going on at the time. It was clear during the pandemic we were being totally manipulated whether that was by politicians, the media or the corporate classes. The first line of the song and overarching message addresses this ''we're sleepwalking with the loonies at the wheel' - we're basically heading into a crisis. We tried to get across this in the video through me playing a dodgy Wall Street banker. Obvious influences being American Psycho, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, Wall Street and A Shock to the System. I enjoyed very much performing as this campy character, it was fun and I loved the DIY approach we took to filming it. The video might come across as a joke, but that's exactly the point - it is a joke, because all of this is so unavoidable. I am making ludicrous music for ludicrous times.”

The video was filmed by me and my sister Chantal Marson around Canary Wharf and in an unused office. The first line of the song and overarching message is that ''we're sleepwalking with the loonies at the wheel' and we tried to get across this in the video through me playing a dodgy Wall Street banker. Obvious influences being American Psycho, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, Wall Street and A Shock to the System. A Place To Bury Strangers Reveal “Dragged In A Hole” Music Video

Brooklyn NY, post punk/psych band A Place To Bury Strangers have revealed the video for their latest single "Dragged In A Hole".

The song is taken from their new album 'See Through You', released last  month (February 4) via Dedstrange. Grab your copy here.

Clanging found-object percussion and brutal, decimated guitar action percolate throughout a piercing, harsh industrial noisy punk ripper that scrapes the bottom of the barrel of human experience to only find there’s still a long way down.

"The original demo was so trashed and insane sounding that it shaped the lyrics into being about total obliteration,” says Ackermann. "When struggling with your belief in other human beings, you do feel totally destroyed. This song features percussion which is actually me banging on the pipes in my basement."

In the video, a woman endures a demonic possession at a local park. “'Dragged In a Hole' was inspired by the long snorri cam shots in Zulawski's Possession and the OTT horror of Evil Dead,” says director Tom Hughes.

“It was blocked and rehearsed by Isabelle Paige, who used her ballet and theatre experience to choreograph a routine to the song. It was filmed over one evening in a busy park in Cardiff; shooting two takes back-to-back with Isabelle wearing the camera rig, and me running alongside her, ducking and diving out of the camera's line of sight.

Watch: Child Seat Share Debut Single/Video "Fever Dream"

The song is out today (March 25) now via Moonboot! Records and is taken from their forthcoming debut album set for release this Autumn. Get it here.

“Building off the description of a fever dream is, the song touches on being stuck in “the in between” phase in life and love. A lot of inspiration was pulled from the sudden change of the pandemic and its effect on both life/love. In life, we were forced to stay put and rearrange our hopes/dreams/aspirations. In love, our relationships changed – we had to adapt to this new way of living, and living with our partner,” says the band.

“Reflecting on how things used to be, but now you’re caught in a “fever dream” of this weird phase of life and that feeling that grass was always greener/nostalgia for better times.

Of course, this can happen without the Pandmeic, but a lot of the album is a reflection on how much this era has changed us as humans.”
