Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Announce New LP 'Endless Rooms', Stream "The Way It Shatters"

Australia soft punk/indie rock band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have announced the release of their third studio album 'Endless Rooms'.

The follow-up to 2020's album Sideways to New Italy, was self-produced by the band (alongside engineer, collaborator and old friend, Matt Duffy), and will be released on May 6 via Sub Pop Records and Ivy League Records. Pre-order your copy here.

While initial ideas for Endless Rooms were traded online during long spells spent separated by Australia’s strict lockdowns, the album was truly born during small windows of freedom in which the band would decamp to a mud-brick house in the bush around two hours north of Melbourne built by the extended Russo family in the 1970s. There, its 12 tracks took shape, informed to such an extent by the acoustics and ambience of the rambling lakeside house that they decided to record the album there (and put the house on the album cover).

Endless Rooms is a collection of songs permeated by the spirit of the place; punctuated by field recordings of rain, fire, birds, and wind. "It's almost an anti-concept album," says the band. "The Endless Rooms of the title reflects our love of creating worlds in our songs. We treat each of them as a bare room to be built up with infinite possibilities."

Lead single 'The Way It Shatters' started simply as a home recorded MIDI-jam before expanding into the blistering earworm it is now. It heavily features synth, an instrument rarely seen on previous releases from Rolling Blackouts C.F. The band further elaborates: “It’s about how ending up in your particular situation in life is the result of absolute randomness. If you happen to be born into wealthy Australia or happen to be born into a war zone in Syria. That’s just the way it shatters. So it’s when this good luck is mistaken for a sense of pride in one’s self or their country they become confused and deluded about what’s important. It’s when those on the other side of the luck scale are completely othered and considered not worthy.” In the accompanying video, directed by frequent collaborator Nick Mckk, Joe White plays a man who wakes up on the shore and stumbles into a birthday party, attended by the rest of the band members.

Watch: Jogger Shares New Single/Video "Schalte dich aus"

Berling bedroom-rock/post punk new solo project Jogger (aka Florian Nikolai) has shared the video for his new single "Schalte dich aus".

The song is taken from his forthcoming debut studio album 'BRD Noir', which will be available on May 22 through CUT SURFACE. Get it here.

With lofi sounds and scratchy guitar riffs, it is reminiscent of Neue Deutsche Welle, New Wave and Postpunk. Ambivalence runs through all the lines and melodies of Jogger’s forthcoming debut album „BRD Noir“, which he produced in his own four walls in the current bedroom pop style. The lyrics open up a place where everyone is welcome and where togetherness is determined by diversity and free thought. The album leads to a symbolic pub that gives the listener the feeling of never being alone with their doubts between bar noise and euphoric wishes. Here we are as we are, always wanted to be and never have been.

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets Announce New LP 'Night Gnomes', Share Two New Songs

Australian psych/grunge/rock band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have announced the release of their fifth studio album 'Night Gnomes'.

The follow-up to 2021;s album SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound, will be out on April 22 via Marathon Artists, featuring their new songs "Bubblegum Infinity" and "Dread & Butter". Pre-order your copy here.

Frontman Jack McEwan states in a press release: “A lot of the album is about trying to work out what the fuck is going on, in general life and obviously the period of time we’ve all found ourselves dormant in for the past two years. I started reading a few quotes from philosophers because, hey! They might know what’s going on, but mostly it was a bunch of cleverly worded gibberish that was drenched in self turmoil that thankfully, serendipitously, unbeknownst to me was the thing I found comfort in. That nobody has a clue what life is and we’re all winging it as we go! Cheers, William of Ockham.”

Songwriter Jack McEwan describes "Bubblegum Infinity" as: “Our cute little playful member of the Night Gnomes club. I think there's mixed opinions of this song in the group but I'm sticking by it.

"I like its pop sensibility and melancholy notions. It's cheerful and good natured, it's not trying to be something profound, more a statement of life at this time and by calling it Bubblegum Infinity, we're showcasing that lighthearted vulnerability. So go easy on us, metal fans."

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to "Bubblegum Infinity" and "Dread & Butter" below.

Night Gnomes Tracklist:
01. Terminus, The Creator
02. Lava Lamp Pisco
03. Dread & Butter
04. Bubblegum Infinity
05. Sherbet Straws
06. Night Gnomes
07. Bob Holiday
08. Microwave Dave
09. Acid Dent

Rodney Cromwell Details New LP 'Memory Box', Stream "Opus Three"

British indietronica/synthpop/robotpop artist Rodney Cromwell (aka Adam Cresswell) has revealed full details of his new album 'Memory Box'.

The 12-track album was recorded in Cromwell’s home studio in Catford, South London in 2020 & 2021 and was mixed in Brooklyn, New York at ACME Hall Studies by Rich Bennett, it will be out on March 18 via Happy Robots Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Memory Box  fuses a European synthpop sensibility with a world of magical realism.  It was inspired as much by the literature of Alice in Wonderland, Franz Kafka and Anna Kavan, as by its musical influences of artists such as Kraftwerk, Neu!, The Cure, Silver Apples, Oppenheimer Analysis and Polyrock. The sonic pallet of 'Memory Box' is rich, colourful, often surprising and utterly unique.

Opening with two synthpop numbers, the dystopian coldwave of ‘Intercom,’ with its twisted robot voices, that promise us “order will be resumed shortly.” This order comes swiftly in the form of ‘Opus Three’ a pounding dance-floor filler, reminiscent of the best of Vince Clarke, that asks us to dance in the face of "catastrophe".

'Memory Box' mixes synthpop, hauntology, dreampop and European coldwave, using analogue synths and drum machines with minimal computer sequencing. Cromwell creates a distinctive and compelling organic, dream-like world, inspired as much by Alice in Wonderland and Franz Kafka as by sonic influences like Kraftwerk, The Cure, Polyrock and Stereolab.

"At it’s heart, ‘Opus Three’ is the simplest of dance numbers - a full-fat 120 bpm beat, layered with a chunky Moog Opus 3 synth line, overlaid with percussion and the buzzing tones of a 1960’s pocket stylophone. Inspired by Anna Kavan's surreal novel ‘Ice’, this song is about two lovers on the brink of apocalypse, separated by distance and lost in time, trying to find positivity in a world where there is little. “Don’t let it be, catastrophe” repeats the chorus, trying to conjure optimism from somewhere," says Rodney Cromwell (the nom de plume Adam Cresswell).

B-side "Perception Management" is an atmospheric dystopian synth instrumental conveying a sense of ‘post-truth pop’.

Memory Box Tracklist:
01. Intercom
02. Opus Three
03. Memory Box

08. The Small Print
09. The Department Of Public Tranquillity
