London post punk/new wave band Regressive Left have released their new single "World on Fire".

The song is taken from their debut EP 'On The Wrong Side Of History', out today, July 15th on Bad Vibrations Records. Grab it here.

Taking influence from the booming post-punk, funk and disco scenes of New York, Regressive Left’s sound is stark and danceable. Angular guitar scratches meet dirty synth basslines, whilst Simon Tyrie’s Edwyn Collins croon is chased around by effervescent drums. The banal horror of life in Tory Britain expressed with sharp and dry wit, and then set to truly barnstorming and infectious dance music.

BODEGA Drop New Single/Video "The Art of Advertising"

New York art-rock/punk band BODEGA have dropped the video for their new single "The Art of Advertising".

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from their forthcoming second full-length album 'Broken Equipment (Xtra Equipment)', out today, July 15th, on What’s Your Rupture?. Get your copy here.

Xtra Equipment boasts eight new bonus tracks from the Broken Equipment sessions, and comes ahead of the band’s summer North American headline tour beginning next week. Much like the songs on Broken Equipment, BODEGA made these tracks extra breezy and hooky as well as more philosophically ambitious than their previous recordings.

“Even when in the mode of social critique, I personally tend to think of my songwriting as more literary than analytic but here, the ‘The Art of Advertising’ and ‘Art and Advertising’ diptych functions as a sort of pop rock treatise on the subtle but crucial distinction between art and advertising (’Art creates cosmos’ whereas advertising ‘surface(s) status quo’),” says the BODEGA’s Ben Hozie.

Hooveriii Unleash New Single/Video "Twisted & Vil"

Los Angeles psychedelic/space rock band Hooveriii have unleashed the video for their new single "Twisted & Vil".

The song is taken from their upcoming new album 'A Round of Applause', set to arrive on July 29 through The Reverberation Appreciation Society. Pre-order your copy here.

The band’s Bert Hoover notes “It’s a song about trying to figure out your place in life,” further adding “I wrote it with a Hammond Auto-vari drum machine many years ago that sat on a reel of tape untouched. We like to reference the archives when putting together a new record because you never know where inspiration strikes. We dusted this one off and thought we could really make this work. Everyone’s instrumentation fell right into the pocket, especially Gabe’s leads. Very proud of the crew. The song, to me, is about finding your place in the scheme of things - but really we’re just trying to have a good time.”

Pastel Unveil New Single/Video "Escape"

British indie/brit rock band Pastel have unveiled their new single "Escape".

The song is taken from their forthcoming second EP 'Deeper Than Holy', which will be available  in September via Manchester indie label Spirit of Spike Island. Get it here.

Escape was recorded with producer J. Fender, the frontman of fellow Manchester rising stars Afflecks Palace and the founder of both bands’ record label, Spirit of Spike Island. It was mixed by James Kenosha and then mastered by John Davis (The Killers, Foals, IDLES) at Metropolis in London.

The feeling that Pastel have emerged fully formed is amplified by ‘Escape’. Coming across like a modernised missing link between the sprawling psychedelia of early Verve and the spacious shoegaze of Ride, ‘Escape’ constantly grows in stature. Yet frontman Jack Yates’ voice is never submerged by the wall-of-sound guitars, allowing the band to keep an anthemic edge to their heavyweight soundscape.

Jack says, “This is a song mindlessly written after a weighty acid trip… ‘She melts in your mouth’... You do the maths.”

J. Fender also filmed the accompanying video for ‘Escape’, which opens with Jack crossing the Humber Bridge before he’s joined one-by-one by the rest of the band. This footage is interspersed by clips of their day at Knebworth Park captured by Sophie Sandor, which includes meeting the Stone Roses legend John Squire. The 9mm gives it an immediately nostalgic vibe, providing evocative flashbacks to Woodstock and Spike Island, but capturing at one of the biggest live music events of 2022.

Stealing Sheep Share "Blister in the Sun" (Violent Femmes cover)

Liverpool-based indie pop/folktronic trio Stealing Sheep have shared the video for their cover version of Violent Femmes classic "Blister in the Sun".

The song is taken from "Life's What You Make I", a compilation of covers from a golden era of music spanning from '81 to '91. Reinterpreted by a galaxy of established and rising stars including Teddy Thompson, Eliza Carthy, Jackie Oates, Marry Waterson, Stealing Sheep and Honeyfeet, many of which you can find on Lush’s bespoke Spa treatment soundtracks too. Get your copy here.

From the band: “We tried to emulate the rebellious ethos of the original Blister - taking their melodies, placing them on different instruments breaking them apart so it practically sounds nothing like the original with a more glitchy, housey, dance feel… maybe giving the lyrics a new context to sit within..”
