Paul Weller Announces New LP 'Fat Pop (Volume 1)', Airs "Cosmic Fringes" Video

Former frontman of The Jam and The Style Council, Paul Weller has announced the release of his 16th solo album  'Fat Pop (Volume 1)'.

The follow up to last year's On Sunset, will be out on May 11 via Polydor. Pre-order your copy here.

During spring last year, after his tour dates were postponed, Paul Weller needed something else to focus on. With many ideas for new songs stored on his phone, Paul started to record them on his own with just vocals, piano, and guitar which he’d send to his core band members (drummer Ben Gordelier, Steve Cradock on guitar, and bassist Andy Crofts) to add their parts. Despite it being strange not being together, it kept the wheels rolling and sanity prevailing. The band reconvened at Weller’s Black Barn studio in Surrey when restrictions were lifted to finish the work with the shape of the album becoming clear to all.

Fat Pop (Volume 1) – Paul adding the “Volume 1” to keep options open for a second volume in the future - is a diverse selection of sounds. No one style dominates. There’s the synth-heavy, future-wave strut of “Cosmic Fringes”, the stately balladeering of “Still Glides The Stream” (co-written with Steve Cradock), the chunky percussive groove of “Moving Canvas”(a tribute to Iggy Pop no less), and the kind of dramatic immediate pop symphonies on “Failed”, “True” and “Shades of Blue” with which Paul Weller has hooked in generation after generation of the devotee.

As ever, Fat Pop, sees a number of guests contributing including Lia Metcalfe, the young Liverpudlian singer with The Mysterines who combines her tremendous vocal as well as a songwriting credit to True. Andy Fairweather Low adds his distinctive vocals to superfly strutting “Testify” and Paul’s daughter Leah co-wrote and features on the classic 3-minute pop kitchen sink drama “Shades Of Blue” which will be the first single taken from the album. Hannah Peel is back in the fray adding her classic string scores to “Cobweb Connections” and “Still Glides The Stream.”

Check out the album's tracklist and the video for lead single "Cosmic Fringes" below.

Watch: Autogramm Unleash New Single/Video "No Rules"

The song is the title track and first single from their forthcoming sophomore album 'Night Network', which will be available on April 16th through Nevado Records.

Speaking about it, the band's The Silo says: "I’m an enthusiastic dancer. Skilled? No, but I love to dance, and this song is an ode to my relationship with dancing: Flex abandon, enter the void! It’s one of my favourite things to do. I don’t believe there are any rules in dance, apart from not hurting anyone else or infringing upon their personal space. It might seem weird to begin a song called “No Rules” with two rules, but it’s kind of like snake eating its tail no? No rules for no rules, including the absence of rules…”

The 6-track EP, was recorded with Chris Ryan, and will be out on March 26 via Fair Youth Records, featuring their new single “Slowly.”

Speaking about it, the band said: “It’s a song about a person admitting their feelings for you with no follow through, and the feelings of uncertainty that surround that. It’s one of our more energetic songs, and the whole song moves quite frantically around the drums to convey the feeling of confusion when you go through this. For a song called slowly we sure do play it fast and it hurts Áindle’s hands to play. It was definitely one of our roughest demos but Chris really helped to turn it into one of our favourite songs on the EP.”

Coach Party Announce New EP 'After Party', Stream "Everybody Hates Me"

Isle of Wight indie rock/pop band Coach Party (formerly known as Jeph) have announced the release of their new EP ‘After Party’.

Set for release on 20th April via Chess Club Records, the EP features six tracks of pure peppy indie-pop perfection, including their new single "Everybody Hates Me". Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about the single and video, vocalist Jess Eastwood says: “‘Everybody Hates Me’ isn’t a metaphor for anything; it’s literally about those times when you convince yourself that everyone, including your best friends don’t actually like you, and your self-confidence is so low that you don’t even blame them. Disguise that sentiment in an up-beat singalong, and there you have the third single from our new record. The video is a direct extension of the song. It swings between the insecurities of feeling like you’re not good enough amongst your friends, and the sense of unity you get from those same people when you finally wake up from your rut. Everyone feels that way from time to time, but you gotta remember that sometimes your irrational self is going to take over. And when it does, try to remember that you’re awesome, and your friends really are your friends.”

Check out the EP's tracklist and watch the video for "Everybody Hates Me" below.

The Horrors Announce New EP 'Lout' Stream Title Track

London based psych rockers The Horrors have announced the release of their new EP 'Lout', and have also shared the heavy title track.

The 3-track EP will be out March 5th via Wolf Tone/Virgin Music Label & Artist Services. Get your copy here.

“’Lout’ is about the relationship between choice and chance, compulsive risk-taking and pushing your luck,” Faris Badwan explains. “As a band, particularly live, we’ve always had an aggressive side and as we began writing new songs it became clear that we were heading in that direction.”

“In the past whenever we’ve written stuff with a harder edge it’s come from the energy we get from all playing together in a room but creating this kind of atmosphere remotely was a different challenge,” he adds. “It’s the same level of intensity as the 100-miles-an-hour stuff we’ve done in the past but the anger is somehow more channelled. I can’t wait to play these songs live as there’s so much freedom in that kind of chaos.”

“We came to the conclusion that we didn’t need to be making this record for anybody except ourselves,” Rhys Webb continues. “With so many platforms now lost, the pressure to deliver a single for radio or to get on TV just doesn’t exist any more and is probably all the better for it. The only thing we need to worry about is making the most exciting new music we can. We’re lucky enough to have been together for fifteen years and to be working on our sixth studio LP. It seemed like the perfect time to go in guns blazing, no holds barred full on Horrors, the way it should always be.”

Although on the surface 'Headcase' is an upbeat indie-pop song, the track has a deeper meaning. Speaking of the inspiration behind the track the band commented, “Headcase is about being led on by a person who is obviously using you which causes you to go a little bit insane. The emotions you deal with alongside the mental battle inside your own head because you can't figure out why you can't stop thinking about that one person despite the fact they’re just playing with your head. You know it's wrong but you think somehow you can make it work”.

New Entry: Juliper Sky Air New Single "Another Life"

Manchester dream pop/psych/indie five-piece Juliper Sky have aired their new single "Another Life".

The song is taken from their forthcoming EP 'Modern Fantasy', due out this year. Get it here.

Sonically ‘Another Life’ continues to build upon much of the Shoegaze sounds encapsulated in the bands earlier releases. Made up on lush reverbs, pounding drums and soaring vocal hooks the track takes a dreamy look at finding love and explores the rush of emotions which go with it.

Jamie Lambert (Vocalist, Guitar) commented on how lyrically '"Another life is a song about longing for something or someone to change your life for the better. It’s about wanting to start a new life where you aren’t restricted by the boundaries in your old one one, almost like a rebirth".

Liam Grindell (Guitar, Synth) commented on how “we had the track in the pipeline for a while and it went through numerous incarnations before we landed on the finished track. The track was written with size in mind and was one we knew we wanted to be BIG live. Given that live shows are out the window we took the time reassess how people will be consuming this so made some changes to make it more something you would listen to in the comfort of your own home. We really went to town on layering, creating some really deep textures, hopefully it’s the kind of track where you pick something new out on each listen.”

Acid Dad Announce New LP 'Take It From The Dead', Stream "RC Driver"

NYC psych-punk band Acid Dad have announced the release of their sophomore album 'Take It From The Dead'.

The follow-up to their 2018's self-titled debut,  will be released in June 2021 by Brooklyn’s Greenway Records and psych powerhouse LEVITATION’s label, The Reverberation Appreciation Society. Pre-order it here.

During 2020, the band spent their time building a new studio space in Queens, NY, while continuing to independently produce all their own music, art and even building their own guitars. With a new space and vision, the band produced their second LP.

“Take It From The Dead” features an array of different influences ranging from 90’s neo-psych, modern post-punk and 70’s rock-n-roll. Acid Dad has crafted a record that sounds new, yet feels nostalgic. In contrast to their earlier work, they make use of slower tempos and expand their sound to include songs that are both more intricate and more hypnotic. To accompany the new record, the band spent the last year collaborating with video artist Webb Hunt, producing psych and glitch art videos that form a visual counterpart to the dreamy distortions of their sound.

The band have also shared the video for their new single "RC Driver", grab it here. Speaking about it, the band’s Vaughn Hunt says: “‘RC Driver’ is about how I wish I raced cars for a living. All I wanna do is go fast and do stunts. I grew up near a lake, so jet skis are the next closest thing. Ain’t nothing like rippin’ a supercharged Sea-Doo going ninety miles per hour on pure glass, baby. Webb, our visual artist, and I got inspired and started digging for ’80s and ’90s jet ski commercials. We distorted and chopped them up into a VHS color trip using a combination of digital and analog feedback.”

Watch: Wings of Desire Premiere New Single/Video "Chance Of A Lifetime"

British indie pop duo Wings of Desire (the new project of INHEAVEN’s James Taylor and Chloe Little) have premiered the video for their new single "Chance Of A Lifetime".

The song "a statement of intent, a snap shot of a world in flux" is the lead track from their just released debut EP 'End Of An Age'. Get your copy here.

The EP is an uplifting look at human consciousness at a time when we’re all going through a period of mass-reflection. It embodies that 'sliding doors' feeling that our lives are just a series of predetermined events, and it’s up to us change direction. We are yearning for something deeper, wanting to jump off the conveyor belt of life and prepare ourselves for the uncomfortable truth that we’ve never truly known what it is to live."

"We are not claiming to have the answer, but if we can inspire a conversation or spark the listeners imagination then we are one step closer to the realisation that there is much more to living than we can consider tangible."

Watch: The Lounge Society Unleash New Single/Video "Cain's Heresy"

Calder Valley based post punk/psych band The Lounge Society have unleashed the video for their excellent new single "Cain's Heresy".

The song is taken from their upcoming debut EP ‘Silk For The Starving’, produced by Dan Carey (Bat For Lashes, Fontaines D.C.), out on June 18th on through Speedy Wundergound. Pre-order it here.

"Cain’s Heresy" shakes with the propulsion of a nimble rhythm section, full of bite and scorn, simultaneously swinging angrily at a negligent political class ("The death of four souls is less than a kick in the teeth, for them"), the threat of misinformation ("Poisonous ideals on the screen breed a vicious way of thinking, off the screen") and the noxious follow-the-leader march of celebrity culture ("They’re servants to fame").

The EP title Silk For The Starving in itself probes at a society that routinely neglects the needs of the have-nots. The Lounge Society sing about what they know then. Make no mistake, this is the sound of young England: articulate, enraged and energised. And – perhaps crucially - highly danceable too. It should give hope to anyone who has lost faith in the future, because here the future is in safe hands.

Field Music Announce New LP 'Flat White Moon', Stream "No Pressure"

Sunderland, UK indie rock/art pop band Field Music have announced the release of their eighth studio album 'Flat White Moon'.

The follow-up to 2020's Making A New World, will be out released via Memphis Industries on April 23, featuring their latest song "Orion From The Street", and the new single "No Pressure". Pre-order your copy here.

"We want to make people feel good about things that we feel terrible about." says David Brewis, who has co-led the band Field Music with his brother Peter since 2004.

Sporadic sessions for the album began in late 2019 at the pair's studio in Sunderland, slotted between rehearsals and touring. The initial recordings pushed a looser performance aspect to the fore, inspired by some of their very first musical loves; Free, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles; old tapes and LPs pilfered from their parents' shelves. But a balance between performance and construction has always been an essential part of Field Music.

By March 2020, recording had already begun for most of the album's tracks and, with touring for Making A New World winding down, Peter and David were ready to plough on and finish the record.

The playfulness that’s evident in much of Flat White Moon's music became a way to offset the darkness and the sadness of many of the lyrics. Much of the album is plainly about loss and grief, and also about the guilt and isolation which comes with that.

About the new single  David Brewis says, “The song is like a mirror image of ‘Under Pressure’, but if that was about ‘people on the street’, this is mostly from the perspective of someone up on high insisting that nothing is his fault while the rest of us scratch around trying to hold things together.”

On Flat White Moon Field Music take on the challenge of representing negative emotions in a way that doesn't dilute or obscure them but which can still uplift. The result is a generous record of bounteous musical ideas, in many ways Field Music's most immediately gratifying to date.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch a video for “No Pressure”, parodies YouTube instructional videos, below.

Watch: Eades Unleash New Single "Former Warnings Cluster"

Leeds garage rock/new wave//post-punk band Eades have unleashed their new single "Former Warnings Cluster".

The song is out today (February 17) via Heist or Hit. Get it here.

Speaking about it, vocalist Harry Jordan says, “’Former Warnings Cluster’ is probably our most ambitious recording yet. We’ve always felt we didn’t match our live sound, so we decided to shake up the process. It was recorded live in my basement, with vocals and a few overdubs added later. This allowed us to be a lot more free with the performance, speeding up and slowing down to take the song on a bit of a journey. It was also the first time we’ve ever recorded to tape, which added a load of other hurdles to overcome, but I think the final product is a lot more true to who we are as a band moving forward.”

“It’s about getting into good habits and then ruining them; about reinventing yourself time and time again to no avail,” he continues. “It follows a protagonist who ultimately ends up in the gutter thinking over the red flags he’s ignored as an ambulance approaches.”
