New Entry: Fotoform Premiere New Single "Too Late"

Seattle post punk/dream pop band Fotoform have premiered their new single "Too Late".

The song is taken from their forthcoming sophomore album 'Horizons', which will be available on October 15. Pre-order your copy here.

We’ve all experienced moments when boundaries have been crossed, whether by ourselves or someone else, and there’s no going back. Too Late is about that moment of alienation- the point of no return. It’s almost a two-sided monologue, it’s a warning/reminder but also a kind of satisfying break-up song about being strong enough to cut someone off who has wronged you emotionally, romantically, or even professionally: That’s it, you’re cut off. But: “you did it to yourself.

New Entry: Gold & Youth Drop New Single "The Worse The Better"

Canadian indie rock/alt band Gold & Youth have dropped their new single "The Worse The Better".

The song is taken from their forthcoming eighth studio album 'Dream Baby', which will be available on November 5 through Paper Bag Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Dream Baby maps these complexities over a sharp, saccharine web of sounds: Bowie-ish art-rock, Leonard Cohen’s sardonic piano wit, throbbing new wave, and alt-pop that darts between arena ambition and bedroom cynicism. Lyall’s vision here is sprawling and maximalist with a healthy hint of the apocalyptic and the absurd—an aesthetic and tonal match for our times. It’s a fitting melange for a record that ricochets, dazed, past the horrors of extraction capitalism, imperialism, and white supremacy, but all the while clinging for dear life to the comfort and power of interpersonal relations and the possibilities they suggest.

About the song, the band said: "‘The Worse the Better’ is a fun little bop about water-sliding into the abyss. A woozy anthem for the downwardly mobile about the crushing banality of evil rendered by the acid vat of late-stage capitalism as we work dead-end jobs at the end of history and pray for some technocratic savior to build us a biodome on Mars. Loud and fast and then sputtering and wheezing, kind of like a dream machine going kaputt as it runs out of gas."

New Entry: Jack Wakeman & The Dreamstriders Air Debut Single "Visions"

Glasgow-based indie rock/alt pop band Jack Wakeman & The Dreamstriders have aired their debut single "Visions".

The type of music a medieval bard would make if he got lost in time and space and woke up in the 21st century, a mellifluous melting pot of heavy synthesisers, chorussed 12 string guitars, punchy drums and melodic bass lines dusted with theatrical arrangements of classical and folk music instrumentation.

Songwriter and composer Jack Wakeman has his material brought to a live audience with the help of his four piece backing band The Dreamstriders on a quest to find the holy grail of sound.

Born in Doncaster, Yorkshire Jack grew up on a diet of 60s & 70s pop courtesy of his grandparent’s radio and his Grandad (who had been in a band with Mick Ronson) singing songs on acoustic guitar. Through his teens Jack would hide himself away everyday after school learning to play the various instruments laying around in his grandparent’s garage.

Later disillusioned by the lack of opportunities in the former mining town Jack relocated to Manchester in 2013 where he worked as a session bassist/ guitarist for members of New Order and The Fall plus BC Camplight, Ethan & The Reformation, Granfalloon, Gabrielles Wish, Maddy Storm and more.

Depression, anxieties and self destruction brought on by heavy psychedelic drug use and excessive alcohol consumption led to bouts of mental illness overcome in part by turning to paganism explain why Jack’s writing focuses on his apocalyptic optimism, societal standpoints and determined betterment of mental health, often through the lens of folklorish romanticism.
