Western Column Drops New Single "Club Orange"

Glasgow dram pop act Western Column, the solo project of Dutch Wine guitarist Christopher Devine has dropped his new single "Club Orange".

The song is out today, September 23 via Negative Hope Records and flits between a pulsating head bopping basement indie dance energy and a hushed beauty, all the while maintaining that sun-washed dream pop vibe Western Column built with his singles to date.

Moving from strength to strength ‘Club Orange’ feels fuller and more confident than Western Column’s previous outings, Devine’s vocals come across more self assured yet maintain an almost settling hazy wonder, while the imaginative guitar work teeters a fine line between shoegaze wonder and star gazing bedroom pop.

Western Column is the DIY solo project of Christopher Devine, and sees the Dutch Wine guitarist go down his own path, while his band continue to build their own name, threading a dancey, sun kissed element to his an optimistic shoegazey sound going on instincts alone to create a sound true to himself.

“With ‘Club Orange’ there is a general feeling of everything that was going on at that time, it’s more an atmosphere than a specific topic.

“I've always liked really upbeat tunes that are still kind of sad, so it’s got a dancey groove with the drums and bass and then put some dream poppy guitars over it so it'd be like a kind of nice clash.

“I purely go off off a feeling, so everything I'm listening to combined and then whatever is exciting me, there's no other parameter or filter that it has to go through. I don’t ask myself would other people like this? Or is this cool? It’s purely, do I feel something for this?”

Courting Reveal New Single/Video "Famous"

Liverpool post punk band Courting have revealed the video for their new single "Famous".

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from their debut album 'Guitar Music', out today,  September 23 via Play It Again Sam. Grab your copy here.

Going on to speak on the album Murphy-O’Neill said: “Guitar Music is the opposite of our early releases in that it is very emotional. The stories told may be from the perspective of other characters at times, but these songs are always filled with actual feelings. We're no longer trying to hide that.

We felt that Guitar Music as a phrase was reductive and therefore decided to create a record with the intention of it being a body of work that could redeem being a “guitar band”, by pushing it to different boundaries. To us, this record is a statement piece, it felt very exciting to make, to us, it feels a lot more special than we’d originally expected it would be.”

YGGL Unveils Music Video For "SHAME"

French coldwave/grunge artist YGGL (aka Yrwan Garcia Leal) has unveiled the video for his latest single "SHAME".

The song is taken from his album ’FORGOTTEN’, released earlier this year (February 25)  through Musique d'Apértif Record. Buy it here.

With his third album, YGGL gets rid of the coldwave darkness of his previous opus. The drum machine becomes softened to let us feel the melody again like the light at the end of the tunnel, a needed step after a difficult family bereavement.

His Words: "Shame is the first song I wrote when I started preparing this album. I find it a little different from my other sounds, it has a little shoegaze ballad side I find that this postcard clip from England from the time when Queen Elisabeth had not yet left to join Tupac and Biggie on an island fits quite well with the British vibe of this song. Good viewing"

Emperor of Ice Cream Share New Single "I See You Everywhere"

Irish indie rock/dream pop band Emperor of Ice Cream have shared their new single "I See You Everywhere".

The song is out today (September 23) via Fifa Records, and was mixed/produced by Graham Finn.

From the outside ‘I See You Everywhere’ is a vivacious, end of summer, indie pop song but it in fact deals with the extremely serious topic of Parental Alienation; the process through which a child becomes estranged from a parent as the result of being wrongly influenced or through psychological manipulation by the other parent, and current efforts in Ireland to have the laws pertaining to it changed. Whether executed wilfully, or unwittingly, Parental Alienation is heart-breaking, and can be akin to torture for the alienated parent, but also have detrimental effects on the innocent child if they are forced to suffer long term separation from all those who love them.

This song sees The Emperor’s sound continue to evolve, while maintaining their trade-mark basslines, raw and melodic guitars, topped by elegant, lush vocals and harmonies. The band bring in a fresher and raw sound as heard on their last single ‘Weather Vane’, letting the parts speak for themselves rather than enveloping the sound with pedals and production tricks.

Petty Cassettes Air New Single 'The Call'

Glasgow indie rock band Petty Cassettes have aired their new single "The Call".

The band finished 2021 strong with the release of 2 singles; Rydo & Julianne and Smells Like Teen Spirit, which put them firmly in the public eye receiving encouraging reviews and literally thousands of national and global airplay. They ended the year performing at the legendary Barrowlands as support to Scottish 80s icons Hipsway, and hit the ground running in 2022 with their first sold out hometown show to promote Good Enough.

Their songs vary from energetic tunes to mellow ballads. Neck deep in their origins, they are the soundtrack of choice for any party night. Influenced by different genres, the result is an explosive mix of upbeat-indie-rock songs and marching ballads, a song for everyone...a song to everyone!

On the single, the band explains: "We are the people enslaved by the weight of society. Riches and politicians thrive while on the street a choice between food and shelter have to be made. The Call is the song born from the people who are in need of setting things square. We are the muscle of society and we want to be heard, to be respected. We are not cattle, we are not machines! We are men and women and we will answer to the call."
