New Entry: Gardening Share New Song "Never Going Back Again"

London indie rock/lo-fi/alt band Gardening (formerly known as Mirror Shot) have shared their new song "Never Going Back Again".

This is the twelfth track from their lockdown demo series, written in November 2020.

"I had a major dry spell of finishing absolutely nothing worthwhile for months, broken by this track, so I feel sort of indebted to it. It was a lot of work to record, though I seem to remember it coming together really quickly. It's only three minutes long but there's a lot of stuff going on (including glockenspiel, dulcimer, backwards crashes, Beach House organ, noise, a LinnDrum, and about 10 guitars tuned to DADGAD). I confess to consequently being bitten by the glockenspiel bug - I just can't stop busting out the glockenspiels now."

New Entry: De Lux Drop New Single "Some Things Never Break"

Los Angeles based post-disco, dance-punk duo De Lux have dropped their new single "Some Things Never Break".

The song is taken from their upcoming EP 'Uneven', set to arrive on April 23 via Innovative Leisure. Pre-order it here.

"Something’s Never Break" is about old habits dying hard. The lyrics tow the line between earnestness and irony throughout the song, making you wonder if they’re sung with a wink or a nod. The band’s special brand of cheeky social commentary rewards the listener with some of their best one liners: “I hope one day/I can make enough money/So I can have an opinion/And I don't have to fake it.”

It’s got a trance inducing off kilter synth intro and guitars that sound like they’re melting in slow motion as Sean Guerin puts on a character that sounds like an extension of the sort of musical theatre he performed in past songs like "Oh Man the Future" and "Music Snob." While his character can’t seem to change his life, the song might change yours.

In a generation where pop has come to be defined as anything but, Wombo have spearheaded their own definitive sound that avoids genre classification but is impossible not to tap your foot along to. “Usually if the babies like it, we like it”, admits Chadwick, and it speaks to the band’s bass-driven song structures that pivot through a whirlwind of instrumentation at rapid speeds that they are still able to land on a winning formula that strikes the sweet spot between effervescent overload and razor sharp intention.

English indie rock/britpop band SENSES have premiered the video for their new single "Drifting".

The song is taken from their forthcoming debut studio album 'Little Pictures Without Sound', set to be release on July 16. Get it here.

Drifting offers a nod to era defining indie and alternative bands that have inspired SENSES; layers of atmospheric guitars, leading to arms aloft euphoria. Yet, there are glimpses of more obscure influences, seen in the use of samples, vintage synths and staccato strings, in much the same way as the Jacques Villeglé inspired cover art. Lyrically minimalistic, the song capitalises on the blissful harmonies of Callan and Finny. Combining to create a song that soars, making way for a sense of hope that reverberates long after the last note.

From the band: "The song is about the negative, performative nature of Instagram, an environment which is constantly telling you that everyone only wants to see strength and victories, but seeing either these makes us consistently depressed and insecure. It is written from the point of view of someone challenging a friend about how they have both come to use the platform They then toy with the tempting and liberating idea of leaving the whole thing behind for good."

Tennis System Announce New LP 'Autophobia', Stream "Truth Hurts"

L.A. noise pop /pvnkgaze band Tennis System have announced the release of their new studio album  'Autophobia'.

The follow-up to 2019's Lovesick, was written and produced with Chadwick Johnson (a friend since he and Taylor toured together in 2017) and mixed and mastered by Sam Pura (The Story So Far, Basement, Spice), it will be out in late summer 2021 through Quiet Panic Records (US). Pre-order your copy here.

Written and recorded entirely during the pandemic, Autophobia marks a thrilling new chapter and a logical shift in sound for the project, led by guitarist/vocalist Matty Taylor. Autophobia is a departure from expectation for Tennis System, an auspicious embrace of the moment, and for Taylor, a confrontation of his fear of failing as a solo artist.

Rather than a failure, 'Autophobia' is nothing short of a wildly catchy and moving album. Tennis System’s most personal offering, it is minimalist and vocals-driven, the unlikely bedroom project of a feral live musician -- music to memorialize a lost year. With Johnson, Taylor veered from the scuzzy guitars and pummeling drums he’s known for, instead weaving synth and drum machines with live drums and guitar -- and even the hum of a swarm of bees -- to form a tapestry of textured soundscapes unlike anything he’d created before. “Writing these songs without a band let me make music without having to meet anyone’s expectations but my own,” says Taylor. In unprecedented times, “I focused on making the record I wanted to make.”

Snapped Ankles Announce New LP 'Forest Of Your Problems', Stream "Rhythm Is Our Business"

East London art wave/post punk/krautrock band Snapped Ankles have announced the release of their third studio album 'Forest Of Your Problems'.

The follow-up to 2018's record Stunning Luxury, will be out on 2 July via The Leaf Label. Pre-order your copy here.

Snapped Ankles return to the forest, but it’s not as they left it. Trees planted in neat rows. A well-ordered monoculture with access roads and heavy machinery. The smell of greenwashed money in the air. There’s no sign of the ancient woodland they emerged from on debut album, Come Play The Trees. And it’s far cry from the gentrified East London they found themselves hawking on Stunning Luxury. All is not well in the face of progress. Welcome to the Forest Of Your Problems.

Even among the famously close-knit woodwose community there are factions forming. Meet The Business Imp, The Cornucopian, The Nemophile and The Protester. Each with their own motivations and belief systems. Their own sense of injustice: contradictions, anxieties and guilt.

Forest Of Your Problems runs the gamut of modern woodwose emotions. In this neat human approximation of the forest, it’s an increasingly knotted affair. Despite all of this, Snapped Ankles haven’t lost their innate ability to make you want to move your feet - their Teutonic forest rhythms are still shot through with post-punk lightning.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for their latest single "Rhythm Is Our Business", below.

Forest Of Your Problems Tracklist:
01. Forest Of Your Problems
02. The Evidence
03. Shifting Basslines Of The Cornucopians

06. Rhythm Is Our Business 04:28

New Entry: Metronomy Release "The Look (MGMT remix)"

British indie dance/electronic band Metronomy have released the MGMT remix of their song "The Look".

The remix is released in celebration of the upcoming 10-year anniversary of the band’s album The English Riviera, out on April 30 via Because Music with six previously unreleased tracks. Get your copy here.

About writing ‘The Look’, Joe says that he “came up with the bit that gets stuck in your head; the der-de-der-der bit. I played around with it a little, hit a wall and thought ‘it’s not really Metronomy, is it’. Four months later, we finished recording The Look at the Smokehouse in London. We quite liked it, but that was about it. Then I distinctly remember the journalist Dave Simpson asking me about the song after we performed it for the first time at the Leeds Cockpit in January 2011. That was probably the moment I realised it had something about it. I still don’t know precisely what that something is, but when we perform The Look live and I hear thousands of people chanting the bit that gets stuck in your head back at me, der-de-der-der, it often brings a tear to my eye. It really is amazing what that seaside song and this whole album has done for Metronomy.”

The song is taken from their forthcoming sophomore album 'Water For The Frogs', which will be available on April 9 through The Reverberation Appreciation Society label. Pre-order your copy here.

Of “Erasure” Hooveriii note “Maybe the most sonically aggressive jam on the LP, Erasure is also the only love song. Originally demoed in a more straightforward fashion, but when Shaughnessy added the rhythmic toms it became more of a war chant. Big primitive energy, much like the destructive nature of love. The song also features wicked dueling sax and war cries from Gabe Flores & Gabe Salomón.” “The idea of the video - which is a mix of live action and stop motion - came from the director, Owen Summers.” They continue. “We wanted to make it feel like an episode of Star Trek or any sort of sci-fi B-movie.”

The 7" ‘Movement Now/Another War Talk’ will be out on May 14th. via Upset The Rhythm. Pre-order your copy here.

The band's 2019 debut album Carnage Hall, confidently deconstructed themes of surveillance, paranoia, and cultural identity through a sonic lens of high-tempo, bright, danceable pop hooks and technical, polyphonic rhythms which border on the bombast of Zeuhl.

‘Movement Now/Another War Talk’ continues the synthesis of animation and discontent with an ethos that exemplifies post-punk’s most original and guiding purpose: casting aside the rigid, signifying fashions of modern performative genre tropes and instead combining a vast fluidity of influence, tone and style to create something as unique and personal as it is counter-cultural. The result is a release that responds to the apathy of our current situation with a positive thesis, breathing life into the lived-in, bursting through every vessel, leaving nothing unturned.
