PVA Announce Debut EP 'Toner', Stream "Talks"

London post punk/dance trio PVA have announced they will release their debut EP 'Toner', on November 20th via Big Dada.

The mercurial Dan Carey (black midi, Bat For Lashes, Fontaines D.C.) has worked with the band once more on production duties. The band have also release a new track, "Talks", that marks the much-anticipated follow-up to their excellent debut single, "Divine Intervention".

Of the new single, producer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Josh Baxter says: “Talks is about how we invent games in order to avoid expressing our true feelings or take the risk of being hurt. The song also takes inspiration from real relationships and the fictional relationship between John and Abigail Marston (the two main characters in video game Red Dead Redemption).”

‘Toner’ is only PVA’s first EP, but it teems with excitement. Never for a minute does it sit still, skipping between ideas with instinctive ease, bringing to light a broad palate of sounds and influences. Notably, on Mura Masa’s remix, Harris’ previously inconspicuous line “the best is yet to come” is reluctantly brought to the front. Perhaps then, this serves as a reminder that although seemingly fully-formed already and among the glorious chaos of ‘Toner’, this is simply the first chapter of a book we’ll be re-reading for years to come.

Pre-order the EP here, and take a listen to "Talks" below.

Toner Tracklist:

02. Sleek Form
03. Exhaust / Surroundings

Topographies Announce Debut LP 'Ideal Form', Stream "Rose of Sharon"

San Francisco shoegaze/post punk band Topographies have announced the release of their debut full-length album 'Ideal Form'.

The 8-track album was engineered and produced by Chris King (also a member of LA-based band, Cold Showers) and mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri at Black Knoll Studios in New York. It will be released on Funeral Party Records on 4th December. Pre-order your copy here.

According to the press, the album synthesizes and clarifies the band’s aesthetic in eight drum-machine and synth heavy tracks, accompanied by Jérémie Rüest's ethereal guitar work, the nimble basslines of Justin Oronos, and Gray Tolhurst’s poetic lyrics.

Tolhurst (whose early exposure to music came from his father Laurence Tolhurst, drummer/keyboardist of The Cure) draws on his dual fascinations of independent music and 20th century poetry to craft songs and lyrics that seek to explore the complex map of occurrences that situate and shape a life."Ideal Form" is concerned with the projections human beings place upon experience and the impossibility of a perfectly realized existence.

The first single, "Rose Of Sharon", is beautiful and returns to these crystal clear lights that groups like Chameleons knew how to do, at last, to name only them.

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to "Rose Of Sharon", below.

Ideal Form Tracklist:
01. Mirror
03. This Evening Also
04. Image
05. See You As You Fall

AK/DK Announce New LP 'Shared Particles', Stream Title Track

Brighton electronic/synth/disco/punk duo AK/DK have announced the release of their third studio album 'Shared Particles'.

The follow-up to 2017's Patterns/Harmonics, "celebrates their undeniable connection as humans, all sharing the same particles from the beginning of time - still true during a moment when we can feel more separated than ever."

It will be out on November 27 via Little Miss Echo Recordings. Pre-order your copy here.

Shared Particles propels itself relentlessly forwards, thrusting onwards in pursuit of a finish point that may never come. The two-piece have always loved the motorik of the 70’s like Kraftwerk and Can, bands that revelled in the journey as much as the destination. They also describe themselves as “like a chunkier Devo” – and, yes, there’s a warmth to the textures of their music from the modular synths and other self-built pedals in their set up, while there’s a driving rhythmic constancy too.

“Really, though, our message is one of togetherness and unity,” the band says. “It’s always a strong political message in itself when people come together for music.”

Ultimately it’s that message that holds the band and their music together. As the name Shared Particles suggests, we are all as one living together, and this is music that could’ve found a home everywhere from rave and free party scene to the punk community. AK/DK’s initial ethos was to break down the invisible screen between stage and audience. They’ve always tried to capture that on record, and this is the closest they’ve come… so far.

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to the title track and their previous single "Feeds" below.

UPDATE 28/09/2020: "Shared Particles" is our new Single of the Week!

Watch: Pixies Share New Single/Video "Hear Me Out"

Boston alt rockers Pixies have shared the video for their new single "Hear Me Out".

The double A-side single Hear Me Out / Mambo Sun will be out on October 16th. Get your copy here.

The song was written by frontman Black Francis and Lenchantin at Dreamland Studios during sessions for ‘Beneath The Eyrie’, with production courtesy of the Grammy-nominated Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Ghost, etc.).

“‘Hear Me Out’ is about things not turning out the way we hoped, but knowing that it’s going to be ok regardless,”says Lenchantin. “Black started the melody phrases on an old organ. I loved it right away, so he asked me to take a pass at the lyrics. The song has an evocative melody that inspired the lyrics to come out straight away.”

Joey Santiago added, “Paz sounds like she’s talking to a guy with deaf ears. I did a western style riff at the end of verses, which was like giving her a gun so the dude would pay attention.”

Watch: Peel Premiere New Single/Video "Catch & Release"

Los Angeles electronic/alt project Peel have premiered the video for their new single "Catch & Release".

The song is taken from their forthcoming self-titled debut EP, set to arrive on October 16 via Innovative Leisure, we have previously heard "Citizen X". Buy it here.

It started off as a drum beat inspired by Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express" alongside a delicate and lush guitar line inspired by Robin Guthrie. There’s a melancholy beauty captured in this song. The perspective of two lovers acknowledging the suffering of the world, trying to push forward, hand in hand, together.

“There’s an energy and transcendence in live performance that we’re trying to capture,” says Innis, “having the sound reverberate through the room, even if there’s bleed, embracing it and letting it color the take.” Cimino adds, “The lyrics were born out of dream logic. There’s a melancholy beauty captured.”

Peel is the musical partnership of Sean Cimino and Isom Innis (of Foster the People).

Soft Kill Announce New LP 'Dead Kids, R.I.P. City', Stream "Roses All Around"

Portland, OR post punk/dark wave band Soft Kill have announced the release of their new album 'Dead Kids, R.I.P. City'.

The follow up to 2018's Savior, was produced by David Trumfio (Built To Spill, Wilco, OK Go) and mastered by the legendary Howie Weinberg (The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana), and will be out on  November 20th via Cercle Social Records. Pre-order your copy here.

A story odyssey of sorts told in ten parts, ten songs - each track essentially a character - the album, explores, through a beguiling mix of personal memory, allegory, and narrative structures by turns both poetic and stinging, a long and complicated relationship with a dark version of Portland OR. It’s songs that tell of the fractured and fragile legacies of those lost during the city’s last couple decades as it moves from soggy backwater to unheard of growth and tech-fueled transformation.

Two years in the making, desperate, redemptive, its contrast of  light and shadow favoring the latter, Dead Kids, R.I.P. City is like no other album in the genre, a kind of doom pop Drugstore Cowboy featuring the brave and abandoned, the tender and the afflicted, all teetering in memory on the edge of the city. For all the sadness and pain of addiction haunting it, however, the record, by its very existence, proves that hope doesn’t necessarily win but that, even if at great cost, it can. It’s what makes Dead Kids, R.I.P. City so powerful beyond just the scope of its dark luminous sound and indelible melodies, and is one of the many reasons you’ll carry it with you.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for their new single "Roses All Around", below.

Dead Kids, R.I.P. City Tracklist:
01. Roses All Around
02. Wanting War
03. Matty Rue (feat. Adam Klopp)

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from the band's forthcoming new album, set to be released soon via Wave Records. Grab it here.

The visuals developed for the song is my interpretation of the Jenni Sex's music, to me this song is about hope and the cycles we go through in life, the path from darkness to light can be an ocean of deep feelings, a dark desert road which we don't know the end. Through all this quit is not an option so we keep going with flow, we float around moods and sensations, then we are destroyed from all the confusion that life can bring, and eventually we'll find our way.
