Watch: Fontaines D.C. Release New Single/Video "Televised Mind"

Dublin rock n' roll band Fontaines D.C. have released the video for their excellent new single "Televised Mind".

The song is taken from their upcoming second studio album "A Hero's Death", which will be out on 31st July through Partisan Records. Pre-order your copy here.

UPDATE 06/07/2020: "Televised Mind" is our new Single of the Week!

Frontman Grian Chatten explains: “This song is about the echo chamber and how personality gets stripped away by surrounding approval. People’s opinions get reinforced by constant agreement, and we’re robbed of our ability to feel wrong.

“We’re never really given the education of our own fallibility. People feign these great beliefs in order to appear trendy, as opposed to independently arriving at their own thoughts.

“We were listening to a lot of The Prodigy and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, specifically their song Open Heart Surgery. I was interested in extrapolating those types of chord progressions and capturing this droning, hypnotic feel. That last line repeated over and over, ‘What ya call it’ is a buffer expression that people used here in Dublin. It’s sort of like ‘umm’ or ‘well…’ – it’s what people say when they’re distracted.”

The video was directed by Hugh Mulhern. Watch it below.

Washed Out Announces New LP 'Purple Noon', Stream "Time to Walk Away"

Atlanta producer Ernest Greene chillwave/bedroom synth pop project Washed Out has announced the release of his fourth studio album 'Purple Noon'.

The follow-up to 2017’s Mister Mellow, was once again wrote, recorded, and produced by Greene, with mixing handled by frequent collaborator Ben H. Allen. It will be out on August 7 via Sub Pop. Pre-order your copy here.

Production of the album followed a brief stint of writing for other artists (most notably with Sudan Archives on her debut Athena) which enabled Greene to explore genres like R&B and modern pop for the first time. These brighter, more robust sounds made their way into the songs of Purple Noon and mark a new chapter in Greene’s growth both as a producer and songwriter. The vocals are front and center, tempos are slower, beats bolder, and overall, a more comprehensive depth of dynamics that has yet to be heard on a Washed Out record. One can hear the luxuriousness of Sade, the sonic bombast of Phil Collins, and the lush atmosphere of the great Balearic beat classics.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for his new single "Time to Walk Away," below.

02. Face Up

Death Bells Announce New LP 'New Signs of Life', Stream Title Track

Sydney dream pop/post-punk band Death Bells have announced the release of their sophomore album 'New Signs of Life'.

The follow-up to their 2017 debut Standing at the Edge of the World,  was produced and Mixed by Colin Knight at Paradise Studios, CA and will be out on September 25 via Dais Records. Pre-order it here.

After swapping hemispheres, the aussie outfit have found a new home in Los Angeles, emerging with a new album of fervent guitar-driven rock, stripped of gloom and punching through with a new sense of positivity. Energized by impulse, extensive touring and exploration led to the formation of an ambitious six-piece band that eventually coalesced as a collaboration between founding members Will Canning and Remy Veselis. With Canning and Veselis becoming the engine, Death Bells began to employ several underground mainstay musicians to complete their live presentation, including Cortland Gibson (Dock Hellis), Colin Knight (Object of Affection), and on occasion Brian Vega (Fearing).

The eponymous lead single is a grandiose statement, influenced by the theme song of HBO’s classic television program Six Feet Under. The lyrics are a shopping list of personal neuroses charged with wry optimism, dressed with jagged guitars, brass, and percussion providing a deliberate pace for Death Bell’s new chapter. As method gives way to melody, New Signs of Life exudes an urgent hope laced with drive and verve. .

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for "New Signs of Life", below.

New Signs of Life Tracklist:
01. Heavenly Bodies
02. Two Thousand and Twenty

Inspired by art in all its forms, Sylvette draw from the elements and traditions of many different genres and synthesise a unique experience. On one hand it's natural, earthy, and ritualistic and on the other futuristic, celestial and even glamourous.

Dubbed as the new Radiohead, the band joined forces with New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham and fellow Bad Lieutenant band mate and producer Jake Evans to produce the album. THE STORY: "In the fall of 2015 we were invited by The Blog That Celebrates Itself to do a cover of a Pale Saints song for a compilation dedicated to the British indie band. We went for the song “Under Your Nose”, kinda just played around and indie turned into noisy reverby rock n roll.

It only took us one evening to rearrange, rehearse and record the song. Basically we listened to the first half of the original track, practiced a bit and then recorded it. Then we did the same with the second half and to this day we are still very happy with the result of a very spontaneous work process.."

The goal is to create suggestive and vulnerable music that reach the core of universal thoughts and emotions.

This song is like a prayer for sleep, although I think when you listen to it, you'll find the music itself has the opposite effect.”

Hoops Announce New LP 'Halo', Stream "Fall Back"

Bloomington, IN indie pop/lo-fi band Hoops have announced the released of their second studio album 'Halo'.

The follow-up to their 2017 full-length Routines, will be out October 2nd via Fat Possum Records, featuring their new single "Fall Back", a song about a long-distance relationship. Pre-order your copy here.

In July 2018, the trio, formed by Auscherman, Kevin Krauter and Keagan Beresford, announced they were taking an indefinite hiatus. They left it open-ended, but it felt permanent. And it felt like a relief. “I had to rediscover why I wanted to be in a band and make songs and perform,” says Keagan Beresford. “I had been having a lot of anxiety when I was onstage. I wasn’t even thinking about playing. I was just thinking about getting through the set without falling on my face. It’s crazy to think about all the shows we did where I wasn’t really present.”

In December 2019, Beresford called up his old friends to see how they felt about reviving the band: “I missed working with those guys. I’d been writing these songs and I thought we could do well together. They’re my best friends and my favorite collaborators, so I was happy they were so receptive to it.”

Just a few months later, they met up in Bloomington, Indiana, to record Halo at Russian Recording, the studio that had been home to L’il Bub (RIP). They invited their friend Ben Lumsdaine to produce. In addition to mixing and producing records for locals Amy O and Steve Marino, he had worked on Krauter’s solo albums and toured with him, and he immediately settled in as the fourth Hoop.

An album defined by musical exuberance, full of gratitude and generosity to counteract and compliment the deep undercurrents of melancholy coursing through every hook and riff, Halo sounds like a lively conversation among close friends, each song a high five, as they look for some stability in their lives and figure out what they owe themselves, each other, and everyone around them. Reaching this point nearly destroyed the band, but Auscherman, Beresford, and Krauter emerged stronger and closer for their time apart. “This record is a more honest representation of our influences and interests as musicians,” says Auscherman. “We’ve grown a lot in four years, as people and as listeners. We’re starting to sound more like ourselves.”

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to "Fall Back" below.

Montreal indie rock trio Plants and Animals have unleashed the video for their new single "House on Fire".

The song is taken from their fifth studio album 'The Jungle', set to be released on October 23 Via Secret City Records. Pre-order your copy here.

“House on Fire”, is an upbeat and energetic anthem that seemed to be aligning perfectly with the surreal summer the world will experience this year. It came from Warren’s haunting feeling that a friend who was taking too many sleeping pills might forget to turn his stove off."

The band explains : “We started working on this a couple of years ago. Warren was afraid for a friend’s health. He thought he was self-medicating too much and not taking care of himself. He couldn’t let go of this image of an overworked dude swallowing too many sleeping pills and falling asleep with the stove on. So it began as the place next door, sometime before Greta Thunberg turned the expression into a rallying cry, where Earth is the house and the people are sleeping. It’s terrifying, and on the whole we’re not unlike this friend, are we?”
