More Ephemerol Air Music Video For "Fertile Energy"

Los Angeles synth wave/electronic duo More Ephemerol (aka Sea Fjerstad from VR Sex and Tamara Sky) have aired the video for their latest single "Fertile Energy".

The song is part of our current playlist and came out earlier this year through Blank City Records. Get it here.

“My whole life I’ve felt that I identified with women on a much deeper level than I do men,” says Sea Fjerstad. “I’ve marveled over, admired, and at times envied them. There are so many brilliant, inspiring women I have gotten to know in this city, in this scene, and throughout my life, that at times it feels very overwhelming. It’s a very powerful thing. It’s a flowing energy. Sometimes it’s a forceful burst, sometimes it’s a calming stream, but it never stops. This song is an expression of that feeling. The feeling that I’ve always felt, and probably always will. It keeps me going. I believe it keeps us all going.”

THUS LOVE Announce Debut LP 'Memorial', "In Tandem"

Brattleboro, Vermont post punk band Thus Love have announced the release of their debut full-length album 'Memorial'.

The 10-track record will be out on October 7th via Captured Tracks. Pre-order your copy here.

For Thus Lve, DIY is an ethos that reflects not only their musical vision but their very existence as three self-identifying trans artists. From the band’s inception, Echo Mars (she/her), Lu Racine (he/him) and Nathaniel van Osdol (they/them) have lived together under the same roof, designed and produced their own merch, and even created their own recording studio from scratch. “I realize that most artists don’t live this way,” says Mars. “But for us, it was never really a choice. The art we make is so tied to who we are and the community we’re a part of, that this is the only way we can possibly do it.”

Memorial, is a stunningly accomplished album, especially considering the circumstances surrounding its creation. The hallmarks will be unmistakable to anyone who has ever obsessed over classic LPs from indie and post-punk’s progenitors—everything from the chiming, Marr-esque guitars on opener “Repitioner” to the pugnacious rhythmic punch on lead single “In Tandem”. But even more impressive and exciting is how THUS LOVE manage to tap into this celebrated lineage to find their own unique voice and tell their own story.

The song is taken from their upcoming sophomore album 'Haunted Hours', which will be out on October 11th (more details TBA). Pre-order your copy here.

From the band: "This is a song about the mindset of the evangelical far right. They are a death cult that are completely removed from their own messianic figure's teachings. They espouse death and destruction and callousness, while most egregiously stealing your rights away, one by one."

Palm Announce New LP 'Nicks and Grazes', Stream "Feathers"

Philly-based indie/alt band Palm have announced the release of their new studio album 'Nicks and Grazes'.

The 13-track record will be out on October 14th through Saddle Creek. Pre-order your copy here.

On Nicks and Grazes, Palm embrace discordance to dazzling effect - capturing the spontaneous, free energy of their inimitable live shows while integrating elements from the traditionally gridded palette of electronic music. Citing Japanese pop music, dub, and footwork as influences on the album’s sonic landscape, the band also found themselves revisiting the artists who inspired them to start the group over a decade ago such as Glenn Branca, Captain Beefheart, and Sonic Youth. Returning to the fundamentals gave Palm a strong foundation upon which they could experiment freely, resulting in their most ambitious and revelatory album to date.

Nicks and Grazes is a natural progression from their 2018 album Rock Island, which found the band beginning to incorporate electronic elements into their sound. While making Nicks and Grazes, the line between songwriting and production was blurred. The band spent the last few years educating themselves on the ins and outs of production by learning Ableton while also experimenting with the more percussive and textural elements of their instruments. Palm also worked with a producer for the first time, Matt Anderegg. “With this record one might assume that we were slowly building a house brick by brick, but it’s more like we were gathering and experimenting with different types of materials for the first couple of years, and then we built the house somewhat quickly,” Stanley says of the making of Nicks and Grazes. “It’s hard to overstate Matt’s role in bringing everything together.”

Das Beat Drop New Single/Video "Intensity"

German new wave/italo disco/indie dance duo Das Beat have dropped the video for their new single "Intensity".

Blending sounds of New Wave, Dark Disco, Indie, & Dance, their sound is unified by the vocals of Eddie Rabenberger, sung in both German and English. Amidst spirited lyrics lies a strong dancey pulse (Das “Beat”), pinning down the duo’s dreamy atmospherics, guitars and percussion.

The duo is half-Canadian and half-German. Dj Kirby (Blue Hawaii), moved to Berlin from Montreal in 2018. Eddie is a theatre actress originally from a small town in southern Germany. Together they find an alluring symbiosis - like Giorgio Moroder meets Nico, or Gina X Performance finds The Prodigy.

Soot Sprite Reveal New Single "Lazy"

Exeter, UK bedroom pop/shoegaze/indie rock band Soot Sprite (lead by Elise Cook) have revealed their new single "Lazy".

The song is out today through Specialist Subject Records. Get your copy here.

From the band: "This song is about the exasperation of living under blame for issues that are entirely down to the ten years of austerity we’ve suffered, how we’re told ‘no one wants to work anymore’ while dredging through 50+ hour work weeks, or ‘if you stop buying flat whites and avocados maybe you could afford to be a homeowner’ by the very people hoarding property. Quite frankly we’re fucking sick of it, and if you are too then maybe this could be your jam."

New Age Healers Unleash New Single "Setting Sun"

Seattle indie rock/alt/shoegaze/psych band New Age Healers have unleashed their new single "Setting Sun".

This is the third single from their forthcoming album 'Demolition Stories' (out August of 2022). Grab it here.

Using the writing style of Elmore Leonard, Louis L’Amour, etc. as a device to create a short narrative inspired by the political insanity of the past 6-years, the band channels musical touchstones like Slint, Ride, DIIV, and Real Estate, to create a sonic landscape in which sounds express emotions when/where words cannot.

`I struggled with the words “setting” and “sun,” songwriter Owen Murphy says. “For a while it was “settling” and “son” as the hopelessness of politics had infused themselves into our music. Watching the offspring of a particular leader act either like a coked up lunatic, or a zombie, while also watching half the voting populace eat it up, really shook me. This song, it’s sound, it’s story, it’s delivery, are inspired by all of that under an umbrella of harmonic noise, reverb, distortion, and groove.”

Preoccupations Unveil New Single/Video "Death of Melody"

Canadian post-punk/new wave band Preoccupations (formerly known as Viet Cong) have unveiled their new single "Death of Melody".

The song is taken from their forthcoming fourth studio album 'Arrangements', set to arrive on September 9. Pre-order your copy here.

Arrangements sees Preoccupations finally and confidently inhabiting the dystopia that they have been carefully creating from their musical genesis. They are in a room with taped up windows, except for a tiny pinprick of light beaming from the otherworld onto the far wall, upside down and blurred, it’s recognizable enough to fill you with warm familiarity and nostalgia of unknown origins.
