Mush Announce New LP 'Down Tools', Stream "Get On Yer Soapbox"

Leeds art rock/post punk band Mush have announced the release of their third studio album 'Down Tools'.

The follow-up to last year's critically-acclaimed album Lines Redacted, was recorded in Leeds at Greenmount Studios with long-term collaborators, Lee Smith and Jamie Lockhart (Yard Act, Easy Life, Cribs) and will be out July 8 via Memphis Industries. Pre-order your copy here.

While grief and work balance form themes on the record, Hyndman’s approach is largely made up of abstract, disconnected streams of consciousness and lines liberally taken from books, paintings, films and beyond. Hyndman says of the recording process: “going into Greenmount was like returning to a childhood home, it’s great re-connecting with Lee and Jamie. They let us do whatever we want within reason, we have fun and you kind of forget they are actually both amazing at what they do. So much of the guitar had to be improvised in the studio which was stressful but also intrinsic to creating the non-linear vibe of some of the stranger tracks”.

Along with the announcement of the new album, Mush has also shared a joyfully-unhinged new single, "Get On Yer Soapbox" that dials up the art-rock inflected guitar jams. Discussing the song, Hyndman says: "'Get On Yer Soapbox’ is a righteous wig-out number, like "Alternative Facts" but with more cowbell. All the solos are improvised and I very much doubt I will ever be able to recreate them live, you can hear the track going off the rails which is something I’ve found exciting on records. Lyrically again it’s a kind of re-purposing of an old idiom which I like to do. Generally being ‘on your soapbox’ is considered to be a bit of a slur but I think a bit of self-righteousness is warranted from time to time, especially with the shower of shite we're dealing with”.

Watch: Kristine Leschper Airs "Blue" Music Video

Philadelphia avant garde/avant pop musician Kristine Leschper has aired the video for her latest single "Blue".

The song is taken from their latest album 'The Opening, Or Closing Of A Door', which came out earlier this month (March 4th) via ANTI- Records. Grab your copy here.

Leschper’s The Opening, Or Closing Of A Door, is a paean to the sensory world. It’s the first Leschper has released under her given name, having retired the moniker Mothers after eight years of performing and releasing music under it. Though both projects are guided by Leschper’s idiosyncratic approach to songwriting, they couldn’t sound more different. While Mothers drew inspiration from the stark, skeletal sounds of post-punk and contemporary folk, Leschper’s new work is practically baroque, integrating an array of synthesizers, strings, woodwinds, and over a dozen percussive instruments. “Earlier work didn’t involve recording as part of the writing process, recordings were simply made as a document of something that had been written and rehearsed. I have since discovered a deep affection for home recording and sound exploration, finding that I thrive in those rabbit holes of texture, timbre, rhythm, which can add so much complexity to the emotionality of a composition.”

New Entry: Screensaver Release New Single "Clean Current"

Aussie post punk/synth wave band screensaver have released their new single "Clean Current".

The double A-side single 'Clean Current/Repeats', will be out on April 8 through Upset The Rhythm. Pre-order your copy here.

Clean Current is a burst of high-energy: nervy guitars and groovy base underpinned with krautrock drums and cosmic synth noise, overlayed with delay heavy vocals. Repeats is the flipside of the coin, a moody post-punk stomper, led by gritty saw tooth synth, chorus-soaked guitar, textural percussion and soaring vocals. Lyrically Clean Current spits out retorts aimed at the engulfing nature of anxiety whilst Repeats critiques the repetition of modern life, languishing human existence.

Clean Current nods it’s head to likes of Snapper and 80s Flying Nun bands whilst Repeats owes it origins more to the progenitors of goth-rock.

Watch: don't get lemon Reveal New Single/Video "Purple Hour Kingdom"

Texas-based heatwave/post-punk/electronic music trio don't get lemon have revealed the video for their new single "Purple Hour Kingdom".

The song is taken from their forthcoming debut studio album 'Hyper Hollow Heaven', which will be available on March 29 through à La Carte Records. Pre-order your copy here.

“‘Purple Hour Kingdom’ is also about the end of the world and our last hours in it. It also speaks of the freedom we have knowing the end is in sight and how it can also be beautiful like a sunset. Power is also a big part of the lyrics in the album and in particular this song. The masses long for leadership, and those in perceived positions of power to lead us, to bring calm and normality, but we know that they are also just blindly fumbling through life because they also don’t actually have control over what happens, and they know that we know that.

“Neoliberals like to toss around words like civility, order, and growth and create a false sense of safety and security in fake pleasantries. In reality, they are also hollow shells clinging to the power they believe they have, which is to uphold the actual powerful system of capitalism that they’re there to protect at all costs, even if it ends everything. It was selected because it’s a bop and probably the strongest song on the album. It’s also the album closer, and we wanted to make sure it got it’s time in the spotlight.”

Flasher Announce New LP 'Love Is Yours', Stream "Sideways"

Washington, DC post-punk/alt band Flasher have announced the release of their sophomore studio album 'Love Is Yours'.

The follow-up to their 2018 debut Constant Image, will be out on June 17th via Domino Record Co. Pre-order your copy here.

Love is Yours steps up the ambition and reaches for the horizon. The record is ablaze with mood, melody, and carefully threaded hooks, finding the band foregrounding the pop sensibilities that had always been present in their previous releases.  The album was written and recorded amid a moment of flux for the band. Now a duo, guitarist Taylor Mulitz and drummer Emma Baker had to reimagine Flasher’s voice. When it was first completed, Mulitz was shy about sharing the album, worrying that old friends would find the new sounds unrecognizable.

Love is Yours  is unquestionably made up of Flasher’s DNA, but it’s true that something pivotal has shifted. If Constant Image found the band tightening up and transcending its basement-punk roots, Love is Yours marks another, major moment of ascent, this time toward something that’s easy to embrace, but harder to pin down – still thrilling, but newly illuminated and entirely their own.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for new single "Sideways", below.

Love Is Yours Tracklist:
1. I Saw You
2. Love Is Yours
3. Little Things
4. Nothing
5. Spell It Out
6. Still Life
7. All Day Long
8. I'm Better
9. Sideways
10. Pink

Watch: Young Prisms Unleash New Single/Video "Outside Air"

San Francisco shoegaze band Young Prisms have unleashed the video for their new single "Outside Air".

The song is taken from their upcoming third studio album 'Drifter', which will be out on March 25 through Fire Talk. Pre-order your copy here.

From the band: “‘Outside Air’ is about the struggles and difficulties in modern marriage, monogamy, and parenting at a young age. Resentment within a relationship can sink so deep and feel never ending but the work it takes can pull you out of a depression. At times it may feel like the only way out is to run away, but the payoff can sometimes save you from making irreversible decisions. This song was recorded during the California wildfires where the orange sky embodied these feelings of fear, anger, and disappointment.”

About the video theyr said: “The ‘Outside Air’ video is intended to be the second installment of a series we started with ‘Honeydew.’ Really an ode to Antonioni and Monica Vitti. Definitely leaning into the mystery and minimalism of the story telling style and how something so simple on the surface can offer so much complexity beneath.”

New Entry: VR SEX Unveil New Single "Live In A Dream"

Los Angeles synth punk/death rock/post punk outfit VR SEX (lead by Andrew Clinco) have unveiled their new single "Live In A Dream".

The song is taken from their upcoming sophomore album 'Rough Dimension', set to be released on  March 25 via Dais Records. Pre-order your copy here.

“Live (In A Dream)” is a brief yet familiar story of delusion and destruction. The song is a tale of myopia while the video zooms out and observes the world and it’s both natural and man-made absurdities and atrocities.”
