New Entry: The Ember Glows Unveil New Single "Silent Love"

Montreal-based indie rock/post punk quartet The Ember Glows have unveiled their new single "Silent Love".

With performances that make subtle use of dynamics and trace their roots to guitar-driven new wave, psych rock and 90’s British indie music, their recordings channel the feeling of being front and centre at one of their shows. The four-piece have crafted a sound that boast simple hooks, a pulsating rhythm section, textural guitar interplay and baritone vocals.

Silent Love is a sonic exploration of steadfast love, the fragility of life and the power of silence. "This song came about when my ex-girlfriend lost her father last year. This is about how powerless one feels when a loved one mourns the loss of a close relative. The old clichés and platitudes won’t help but you still want to offer the gift of silence and love. Because it came from the heart, the song wrote itself. Even the first band run-through sounded good already. We all knew then it’d be a special one," says frontman Martin Saint.

Recorded at Closet Studios in Montreal, on 'Silent Love', the band wears their influences on their sleeves, with elements of Simple Minds, The Cult, Echo and the Bunnymen, early U2, Nick Cave and The Mission at the fore.

Guitarist Richard Bunze elaborates on this song's development, "After hearing the initial chord structure and vocal melody, I began playing a variation of my current guitar riff. I wanted it to sound wide and ethereal, with a driving gritty character and texture. I think we all added our own TEG stamp on this one!”

The Paranoyds Announce New LP 'Talk Talk Talk', Stream "Lizzie"

L.A. punk/garage rock quartet The Paranoyds have announced the release of their new studio album 'Talk Talk Talk'.

Fueled by the fiery energy of their live shows paired with raw lyricism and subtle social commentary, this new album will be out on Septmber 9th via Third Man Records, and sees the band taking their artistry to new heights. Pre-order your copy here

Talk Talk Talk is largely a combination of sci-fi and sentimental songs penned by the group. Lead single "Lizzie" has a robotic nature that evokes Devo and Industrial Hammer Factory with the warmth of lo-fi punk vocals.

The JJ Stratford-directed music video for 'Lizzie' sees the band launched into space, sporting robotic movements in silver costumes and ornate tin-foil headwear. It's a retro-futuristic daydream that nostalgically calls back to visuals of decades past while imagining what the future may look like, all while diving into the celestial realm of an otherwordly crush.

Watch: Dendrons Air New Single/Video "Tangle"

Chicago-based post punk/alt band Dendrons have aired the video for their new single "Tangle".

The song is taken from their forthcoming second full-length album '5-3-8', set to be released on August 26 via Innovative Leisure. Pre-order it here

Speaking about it, which finds the band tapping into something more laid-back and melancholic, perhaps resembling Slanted & Enchanted-era Pavement, singer/guitarist, Dane Jarvie says: "'Tangle' is our weirdo take on a 'ballad' – clocking in at 6 minutes and 24 seconds, we explore odd meters, catharsis, through all-encompassing noise and textural pastiche, with manic builds. We tried to explore lots of sonic territories. Lyrically, the song brims with double meaning and irony."

The song is taken from their album 'Are you there?', which came out in March this year via Howlin Banana Records. Get it here

The roots of Fontanarosa could be traced back to the peak of 90’s-00’s Indie rock, but it would be too straight forward for a band whose leader and writer Paul Verwaerde enjoys pop culture. Fontanarosa are singular for their mixture of pop, indie, post-punk, kraut and lo-fi compo’s. They will get you dancing at once and get you wistful with sophisticated romantic pop melodies.

It's about mental health failing as the world falls apart, but still finding hope in the cracks. "
