New Entry: Belishas Unveil New Single "Brother"

Bristol post-indie/post-pop band Belishas have unveiled their new single "Brother".

Written as a reaction to the current state of the nation, Brother delves deeply into personal anguish at the ever-worsening, austerity ridden modern Britain. Rather than a direct and aggressive approach, the song sorrowfully weaves its way through every-day struggles, highlighting the disarray and chaos we have to endure on a daily basis.

Written in the post -Brexit perspective, the song confronts the mass unemployment of youth, growing and normalised xenophobia and the overall apathy that seems to encapsulate these times. Contrasting with the empowering jangle of Whispers, Brother lifts a sorrowful veil, reacquainting us with the real world once again.

Pink Turns Blue Announce New LP 'Tainted', Stream "You Still Mean Too Much To Me"

Berlin post-punk/alt rock band Pink Turns Blue have announced the released of their new studio album 'Tainted'.

Set to be released on September 24 via Orden Records, this album is the result of time well spent this past lockdown year writing, recording, mixing and mastering the new album in their Berlin recording studio. Pre-order your copy here.

Inspired by Joy Division, The Sound and The Chameleons, Pink Turns Blue plays alternative rock heavily influenced by 80s post-punk and new wave.

On ‘Tainted’, the band added an electronic element to their classical vocals, guitar, bass and drums. The album title itself relates to the state of our world: climate change, its effects, the reaction to it, the split within society, isolation, health risks and financial uncertainty.

"How to overcome the grief / pain of lost love, torn between hate, very bad feelings and, at the same time, not being able to let go at all. As there is no understanding why you fall in love with someone in the first place, there is also no reason / understanding  why love does end or your love of life starts to feel attracted to someone else. It all dissolves into nothingness," says vocalist/guitarist Mic Jogwer.

"Some melodies and moods just call for certain sad themes and touch old wounds that never seem to heal. Normally love stories don’t seem to have a connection to me and my life. But then, when I find a sad melody with some sad chords it all gets stirred up and comes to life. Maybe love really never ends."

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to their new single "You Still Mean Too Much To Me", below.

Tainted tracklisting:

01. Not Even Trying
03. I’ll Never Give Up
05. I’m Gonna Hold You
06. It Fades Away
07. Never Give Up
08. Summertime
09. Brave New World
10. You Still Mean Too Much To Me

New Entry: DROVES Premiere New Single "Operator"

Sydney via Wollongong new wave/synth punk DROVES have premiered their new single "Operator".

Lead by vocalist and front-woman Taylor McAuliffe 'Operator' is an ode to safe spaces in music venues and the importance of calling out toxic behaviour that can sometimes go unchecked. Co-written by Fletcher Matthews (Clews, The Buoys, and Dear Seattle) 'Operator' is just one of the multiple releases that DROVES have in store for 2021 and a call out from their EP that will be out on the 15th of October.

“This song to me was written as a call to be confident, be loud and be heard. It’s a way to put aside the everlasting negative impacts some situations and experiences have for a few minutes to celebrate, dance, and let go instead.” Taylor elaborates, “We’ve always made it imperative that our shows are a safe space for everyone to be comfortable in. It’s a value that we, as a band, hold very closely. We will always stand in solidarity with anyone who has been impacted by harassment or abuse and the constant fear that comes with it. There’s been enough silence around subjects that make people uncomfortable, and this is our chance to use our platform to voice this.”

Watch: Marlow Share Music Video For "Blame It"

Eastbourne, East Sussex indie rock band Marlow have shared the video for their newest single "Blame It".

With an amalgamation of influences, their sound breaks down genre norms, creating something that brings to mind the likes of Oasis, Tame Impala and The Strokes, with euphoric, manic energy reminiscent of so many UK bands such as The Vaccines and The Courteeners.

“Blame It” narrates the lack of communication in relationships and how people try to avoid responsibility for their issues by shifting the blame onto others and coming up with excuses. This reckless behaviour can quickly become a hard habit to break, especially when you’re too busy having fun and brushing things under the carpet.

Through jangly inspired guitars that lace perfectly around the twinkling synth lines and gravelly, raw vocals which provide a real and honest look into the lives of the band, “Blame It” emits a familiar, warming feel that encompasses you head to toe. Joe reveals, “I guess you could say the track has a sort of feel-good melancholy and embraces a juxtaposition of emotions and feelings… We really enjoy instilling a sensation of nostalgia.”

Watch: Breeze Airs New Single/Video "Hard Boiled Wonderland"

Canadian psych-pop/indie disco outfit Breeze (aka producer/multi-instrumentalist Josh Korody from Beliefs) has released the video for his new single "Hard Boiled Wonderland".

The song is taken from their forthcoming eighth studio album 'Only Up', which will be available on August 26 through Hand Drawn Dracula. Pre-order your copy here.

The album features rapper Cadence Weapon, psych pop artist Tess Parks, and an array of the Toronto music scene, including members of Orville Peck, Tallies, Vallens, Zoon, Sauna, Fake Palms, Rapport, Praises, Civic TV, Moon King, Blonde Elvis, For Jane, Ducks Ltd, TOPS and Broken Social Scene.

"Hard Boiled Wonderland" finds Korody working between the sounds of Chemical Brothers disco and the colourful house aesthetics of The Orb and Primal Scream's Screamadelica. Heady rhythms are bedded with fuzzy synths and angular guitars.

Speaking about the new single, Korody says: "'Hard Boiled Wonderland' is an important track to me because it was the first song on the album I put vocals down for. I essentially found my "new voice" which ends up dominating the record. I really love the energy of this track so much. Lyrically it's the only song that isn't about anything specific. It's a complete stream of consciousness style of writing as a result of the early stages of the pandemic and feeling extremely existential which ends up making the song quite nihilistic while still anthemic."

Black Marble Announces New LP 'Fast Idol', Drops "Somewhere"

Brooklyn, NY // L.A synth-wave/post punk artist Black Marble (aka Chris Stewart) has announced the release of his fourth studio album 'Fast Idol'.

The follow-up to 2019's Bigger Than Lifewill be out on October 22 through Sacred Bones Records, Stewart writes and plays everything himself. Pre-order it here

Fast Idol sees Stewart return to a sentiment and process that defined the earlier days of Black Marble, in a return to his intuitive song writing process where songs land as impressionistic snippets of daily conflicts, and people struggle with the challenge of trying to move through the world. “People don’t expect me to be responsible for altering their outlook or mood, they come to hear something that meets them where they are. I trusted on this record that if I stayed in that space and created things from that more mysterious place, it would connect with others.”

Melodies roll with the fizz and charm of Jacno and phrases repeated are electric torchlight ballads sung after hours in William Gibson’s San Francisco. 'Somewhere' opens in sombre herald, before dropping into a fast freeway tempo; the glassy synths and crisp beats cut through the anxious moods on 'Bodies' and 'Try' sits in a lineage with cult bands like Asylum Party. 'The Garden' is a journey through a post-apocalyptic cityscape, earthed by the pulse of a drum machine whereas 'Ship To Shore' could be a lost Oppenheimer Analysis B-side, and the album’s closer 'Brighter and Bigger' catches a sentiment like The Dadacomputer has learned to feel emotions.

"On my previous album I was more specific about the themes I was talking about," Stewart says. "Fast Idol goes back to the songwriting on my early records, where the themes were guided by intuition and instinct – often, their meanings only become clear to me after they're written."

Fast Idol sees Black Marble face the rising tide of uncertainty, leaving our future selves to trace its signal as its frequencies echo into an interstellar expanse, looking for a receiver. He says: "I want my music to stick with you after I leave, even though you might not feel like you’re any closer to knowing it."

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to "Somewhere", below.

Bigger Than Life Tracklist:
01. Somewhere
02. Bodies
03. Royal Walls
04. Try

Seattle disco-punk/new wave/indie dance band Killer Workout have announced the release of their new EP 'Direct to Video'

The 3-track EP will be out on September 17. Pre-order your copy here.

The band is following up its acclaimed previous EP dance-core ‘4:3’ with a sleek, bass-driven troika of swift, driving sweeping, dreamy sultry new songs about the joys of motion and the dark side of the bright lights, “Good Thing,” “Thief In The Night,” and “Get Out.”

“‘Killer Workout’ gives you a clue of who we are,” as writer Alexa Peters quoted the band at AudioFEMME about the origin of their band name. “Like, we’re sitting in a room right now with a hundred VHS tapes of horror movies. We’re kind of obsessed … We’re big cinephiles and whenever we’re collaborating, we reference films and visual art that could inspire the work.”

The EP proves it was wise for the band to reunite with engineer Conor Sisk at Rainshadow Recording in Port Townshend, WA, and Levi Seitz at Black Belt Mastering.

Bryan's Magic Tears Announce New LP 'Vacuum Sealed', Stream "Sad Toys"

French shoegaze/garage rock band Bryan's Magic Tears have announced the release of their third studio album 'Vacuum Sealed'

The follow-up to 2018's 4 AM, will be available on October 15th through Born Bad Records. Pre-order your copy here.

There was no need for drugs to record "Vacuum Sealed". The intensity of the ten songs that compose the album was enough to make the rest of the world disappear. The music is so massive, its presence so thick, that after a month of work, Benjamin and Marc couldn't even talk to each other. Everything was already there, in front of them. "Vacuum Sealed" would become an absolute classic. One of the cornerstones of their generation, made by musicians who also have - or had - a foot in the Villejuif Underground, Pleasure Principle, Bisous de Saddam or Dame Blanche...

"I don't want to be this 33-year-old guy playing teenage rock." After showing off the muscles on one album side, Benjamin Dupont digs a little deeper into his own veins and transfigures his band's music. They've been mistaken for drugged-out wankers, a band that makes big noise because they have three guitars on stage, slackers singing nonsense in false english.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for new single "Sad Toys" below.

Vacuum Sealed Tracklisting:
01. Greetings from space boys
02. Excuses
03. Sad Toys

Clinic Announce New LP 'Fantasy Island', Stream Title Track

Liverpool post-punk pop experimentalists Clinic have announced the release of their ninth studio album 'Fantasy Island'.

The follow-up to 2019's Wheeltappers and Shunters, was recorded in an old studio on Merseyside during the summer of 2019, with good vibrations seeping into the grooves, “Clinic look to a brighter future,” reveal the band in a soundbite. It will be released on 22 October through Domino Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Referencing H.G. Wells’ Things to Come, Marshall McLuhan’s The Medium is the Massage and Sombrero Fallout by Richard Brautigan, the themes Clinic explore on Fantasy Island are time, music and entertainment. In a (coco) nutshell, Clinic have gone funky disco, broadening their sonic palette with the addition of several new gadgets including an electronic acid bass machine, a 1970s cocktail rhythm unit, a Casio digital horn and space drum.

Elsewhere on the album, Clinic cover Ann Peebles’s “I Can’t Stand The Rain” in a delirious manner. “It’s a tin of fruit cocktail,” says one of the band, and there is definitely a lighter, more escapist mood to Fantasy Island. As well as the Human League, other musical influences on the album include Fun Boy Three, Kid Creole and the Coconuts and early 1980s pop music, but also Italian Cosmic disco mix tapes and primitive busker elements, such as the Memphis Jug Band and old blues music, which balance the sound and give Fantasy Island its raw energy. Only Clinic are capable of pulling these disparate references together to make a cohesive, thrilling whole with mixing duties handled by Claudius Mittendorfer (Parquet Courts, Neon Indian).

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for its title track below.

Fantasy Island Tracklist:
01. The Lamplighter
02. Fine Dining
03. Take A Chance
04. Refractions (In The Rain)
05. Dreams Can Come True
06. Miracles
07. On The Other Side...

Watch: FEELS Air New Single/Video "Trash Island"

Los Angeles punk rock/psych band FEELS have aired the video for their new single "Trash Island".

The song is taken from their new EP 'Subversive Reaction', out today, July 22 through Deemed Printable. Get your copy here.

"In a plastic world, disposable is eternal. "Trash Island" is all about painting modern society's love affair with plastic as the totally perverted, masochistic kink that it is. We wrote the lyrics from that twisted perspective- where the ultimate fantasy is to live on a trash island, referring to a cartoonized version of The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, complete with beach umbrellas, lawn chairs and pink flamingos. We see it as a subversive reaction... romanticizing plastic into a love that will -by it's permanence- never abandon you, and -by it's lifelessness- never judge. The video, directed by Elizabeth Weinberg and filmed using solely drone footage, focuses on the four of us each in different desolate environments and heavily features the L.A. river- once a free-flowing natural water source modernized into a concrete duct that collects water from the gutters when it rains."

They are currently working on their third full-length album, set for release on Wichita Recordings.

“Behaviour” is a radiating track that speaks to the static reaction to operate and perform as you’re told - a chain reaction of words and expressions, a sentiment that the song’s vocalist Rod Wendt charmingly teases throughout this ear-worm.

The song is taken from their forthcoming debut EP 'Assembly', which will be available on October 22 through Alcopop! Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about it, singer Albert Haddenham said: "The first tune we wrote as KEG is a cheeky ditty about my mum's family, growing up on Heyshaw farm in the Yorkshire dales and various RAF camps around the world, from Nidderdale to Kuwait, Kuala Lumpur to Driffield, Whippets to Frankfurters. The culture clash must have been quite stark. Musically the track was written at the height of our collective Devo frenzy, we are indebted to our Ohio forebears."

Brighton indie rock/pop/psych band Lime Garden have unleashed the video for their catchy new single "Pulp".

The song is out now through So Young Records. Get it here.

Speaking about it, singer and co-writer Chloe Howard says: The song was inspired by a surreal dream myself and Annabel [Whittle] fashioned, imagining a man covered in orange pulp dancing through underground streets. We tried to capture that feeling of absurdity within this track. The Simon character takes its reference from a dark nursery rhyme type character, but it’s someone we’d still want to dance with!”

Watch: The KVB Premiere New Single/Video "World On Fire"

UK psychedelic/shoegaze/dark wave duo The KVB have premiered their new single "World On Fire", alongside an accompanying music video.

The song is out today (July 21) via Invada Records and is their first new music since 2019's 'Submersion' EP. Get it here.

From the duo: “'World On Fire' was written in late 2019 and at its core it’s about duality and how a phrase like 'set the world on fire, which sounds so destructive, is also about doing something remarkable. We wanted it to be a phrase that is deliberately open to interpretation in this song. Over time we have all become desensitised to bad news and horrific events through television and social media. In much the same way as people slow down to look at a car crash, it feels like we’ve all become more and more obsessed with watching the world on fire."
