Amber Arcades Announces New LP 'European Heartbreak', Airs "Simple Song" Video

Dutch indie pop musician Annelotte de Graaf aka Amber Arcades has announced the release of her new album titled 'European Heartbreak'.

The follow-up to 2016 release Fading Lines and last year's 'Cannonball' EP, was recorded and co-produced in LA with Chris Cohen from Deerhoof and in Richmond, Virginia with Trey Pollard (Natalie Prass, The Waterboys, Bedouine) who oversaw horn and string overdubs from Spacebomb. It will be out on Friday September 28th via Heavenly Recordings. Pre-order your copy here.

About the record, Annelotte said: “If it were called American Heartbreak, you wouldn’t bat an eye. Somehow calling it European Heartbreak feels far less comfortable, almost like a statement in itself. I’m Dutch, hence European. The focus of the record is Europe. As for Heartbreak, for me heartbreak symbolises any kind of falling apart of one of these concepts or stories we invent for ourselves, like romantic love, a sense of identity, nationality, an economic system. It’s kind of a universal thing in my mind.”.

The band's fourth studio album and follow-up to 2015's On Blonde, will be out on June 22 via Dine Alone Records, and is being hailed as “a deeply personal proposition on dating in the digital age.”

“It’s hard to do a song by song breakdown, because as much sarcasm and wit as there is on this record, there is some intensely private shit in the lyrics too, and sometimes the vibe is just more our obsession with synthesizers and drum machines, aesthetics over lyrics,” vocalist Jeff Innes said in a release.

Toronto garage psych/post-punk band FRIGS have shared the video for "Talking Pictures".

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from their debut album 'Basic Behaviour', which came out in February through Arts and Crafts. Buy your copy here.

The video was directed by Christopher Mills, who said: "The camera seems to be broken in a glitchy, 360 degree virtual space filled with multiple exposures of FRIGS, occasionally, and inadvertently disrupted by glitchy abstract shapes, in this dark, and moody portraiture. For me this song is like what Mazzy Star would play before a street fight. The toughness of this music evokes images of Ponyboy Curtis, with all his friends running around the perimeter of town, looking for trouble. FRIGS were a big part of the editing process on this collaboration and I was honoured by the invitation to work with this music."

From the band: "Talking Pictures relies, not on narrative, but on evoking a sense of disillusionment. We wanted a video that similarly eschewed narrative in order to portray this feeling through distorted perspective, overlapping subjects and a black-and-white pallet."
