TEEEL Announce New LP 'We Live Here Now', Stream "Dorsia"

The eelecven-track record was written, produced and performed by Jim Smith, and will be out on August 22. Pre-order your copy here.

From the band: "We Live Here Now" is inspired by our new life in San Diego. Over the last four years, there were many highs and lows. From spending time at the beach to being trapped indoors during a pandemic, this collection of songs captures those feelings.

It's also reflected in the cover art by showing the sky in a unique way. This is perfect for fans of bands like M83, New Order, and 311 to even modern synthwave and indie acts.

The Umlauts Drop Music Video For "Another Fact"

European, multi-lingual, art-school, post-punk, techno-inspired band The Umlauts have dropped the video for their new single "Another Fact".

The song is taken from their forthcoming EP 'Another Fact', set to be released on  October 14th via PRAH Recordings. Get it here.

“Another Fact is our ode to the euphoria and strangeness of clubbing. As a group it is a space we all feel quite differently about, so working on this song became an interesting melding of experiences and perspectives. We wanted it to sound like it was being heard from outside a nightclub. We were thinking throughout the lockdown of all of the empty nightclub spaces, those big empty silent rooms must have had a sort of spooky haunted feeling, so we were interested in inserting some of those qualities into the music.” The Umlauts on Another Fact

On the video, The Umlauts explain: "We met Paul during our last London gig at Venue MOT Bermondsey. He offered to dance for us on stage during the festival season, but as we are a 9 piece live, the chance of having enough space on stage for a dancer isn’t very possible, but we had been planning to shoot a music video for our latest single Another Fact so we jumped at the idea of having him dance for the video. A week later, we met Paul at a Pub in Bermondsey, had a few Pints and started shooting. We wanted the video to recreate the crescendo of energy which Another Fact embodies. Paul dances through the streets of Bermondsey bumping into us along the way, intoxicated by the groove of the song. His moves represented the mood of the song perfectly. We ❤️ Paul."

Director Federico Arosio and cinematographer Giulio Amendolagine add: "Working together with The Umlauts, we wanted to incapsulate the energy of the song through long shots and condensed actions. The script was written on the day, which means there was a lot of freedom for improvisation. The track felt very club orientated to me, so Giulio and I decided to play around with the motion of the camera to emphasise Paul’s movements and to capture the variation of lights that surrounded us in the different locations."

There are so many brilliant, inspiring women I have gotten to know in this city, in this scene, and throughout my life, that at times it feels very overwhelming. It’s a very powerful thing. THUS LOVE Announce Debut LP 'Memorial', "In Tandem"

Brattleboro, Vermont post punk band Thus Love have announced the release of their debut full-length album 'Memorial'.

The 10-track record will be out on October 7th via Captured Tracks. Pre-order your copy here.

For Thus Lve, DIY is an ethos that reflects not only their musical vision but their very existence as three self-identifying trans artists. From the band’s inception, Echo Mars (she/her), Lu Racine (he/him) and Nathaniel van Osdol (they/them) have lived together under the same roof, designed and produced their own merch, and even created their own recording studio from scratch. “I realize that most artists don’t live this way,” says Mars. “But for us, it was never really a choice. The art we make is so tied to who we are and the community we’re a part of, that this is the only way we can possibly do it.”

Memorial, is a stunningly accomplished album, especially considering the circumstances surrounding its creation. The hallmarks will be unmistakable to anyone who has ever obsessed over classic LPs from indie and post-punk’s progenitors—everything from the chiming, Marr-esque guitars on opener “Repitioner” to the pugnacious rhythmic punch on lead single “In Tandem”. But even more impressive and exciting is how THUS LOVE manage to tap into this celebrated lineage to find their own unique voice and tell their own story.

Palm Announce New LP 'Nicks and Grazes', Stream "Feathers"

Philly-based indie/alt band Palm have announced the release of their new studio album 'Nicks and Grazes'.

The 13-track record will be out on October 14th through Saddle Creek. Pre-order your copy here.

On Nicks and Grazes, Palm embrace discordance to dazzling effect - capturing the spontaneous, free energy of their inimitable live shows while integrating elements from the traditionally gridded palette of electronic music. Citing Japanese pop music, dub, and footwork as influences on the album’s sonic landscape, the band also found themselves revisiting the artists who inspired them to start the group over a decade ago such as Glenn Branca, Captain Beefheart, and Sonic Youth. Returning to the fundamentals gave Palm a strong foundation upon which they could experiment freely, resulting in their most ambitious and revelatory album to date.

Nicks and Grazes is a natural progression from their 2018 album Rock Island, which found the band beginning to incorporate electronic elements into their sound. While making Nicks and Grazes, the line between songwriting and production was blurred. The band spent the last few years educating themselves on the ins and outs of production by learning Ableton while also experimenting with the more percussive and textural elements of their instruments. Palm also worked with a producer for the first time, Matt Anderegg. “With this record one might assume that we were slowly building a house brick by brick, but it’s more like we were gathering and experimenting with different types of materials for the first couple of years, and then we built the house somewhat quickly,” Stanley says of the making of Nicks and Grazes. “It’s hard to overstate Matt’s role in bringing everything together.”

The duo is half-Canadian and half-German. Dj Kirby (Blue Hawaii), moved to Berlin from Montreal in 2018. Eddie is a theatre actress originally from a small town in southern Germany. Together they find an alluring symbiosis - like Giorgio Moroder meets Nico, or Gina X Performance finds The Prodigy.

Exeter, UK bedroom pop/shoegaze/indie rock band Soot Sprite (lead by Elise Cook) have revealed their new single "Lazy".

The song is out today through Specialist Subject Records. Get your copy here.

From the band: "This song is about the exasperation of living under blame for issues that are entirely down to the ten years of austerity we’ve suffered, how we’re told ‘no one wants to work anymore’ while dredging through 50+ hour work weeks, or ‘if you stop buying flat whites and avocados maybe you could afford to be a homeowner’ by the very people hoarding property. Quite frankly we’re fucking sick of it, and if you are too then maybe this could be your jam."

New Age Healers Unleash New Single "Setting Sun"

Seattle indie rock/alt/shoegaze/psych band New Age Healers have unleashed their new single "Setting Sun".

This is the third single from their forthcoming album 'Demolition Stories' (out August of 2022). Grab it here.

Using the writing style of Elmore Leonard, Louis L’Amour, etc. as a device to create a short narrative inspired by the political insanity of the past 6-years, the band channels musical touchstones like Slint, Ride, DIIV, and Real Estate, to create a sonic landscape in which sounds express emotions when/where words cannot.

`I struggled with the words “setting” and “sun,” songwriter Owen Murphy says. “For a while it was “settling” and “son” as the hopelessness of politics had infused themselves into our music. Watching the offspring of a particular leader act either like a coked up lunatic, or a zombie, while also watching half the voting populace eat it up, really shook me. This song, it’s sound, it’s story, it’s delivery, are inspired by all of that under an umbrella of harmonic noise, reverb, distortion, and groove.”

The song is taken from their forthcoming fourth studio album 'Arrangements', set to arrive on September 9. Pre-order your copy here.

Arrangements sees Preoccupations finally and confidently inhabiting the dystopia that they have been carefully creating from their musical genesis. Pittsburgh-based sorrow wave duo Bring Her have shared their new single "While You Rise".

The song is taken from their upcoming sophomore album 'Comfort In The Shame', set to arrive on August 19 via Knife Hits Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Bring Her play a distinctive brand of somber darkwave, defined by haunting and magnetic vocals over pounding and obsessive drum machines, penetrating guitar chords and eerie and harrowing synths. Using DIY recording methods coupled with sound shaping, heavy layering and meticulous editing the new album sees the two-piece clawing to new heights, adding to the urgency and crushing weight of their already brooding sound.

Elements of industrial peppers these 10 new tracks, and the duo stays in the gloomy and dismal pocket as the self-described “Sorrow Wave” moniker implies.

Tallies Air New Single/Video "Memento"

The song is taken from their forthcoming second full-length album 'Patina', which will be out on July 29th viaKanine Records (US), Hand Drawn Dracula (CA) and Bella Union (UK/EU). Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about it, Sarah of the band says: "I am a firm believer in “what goes down must come up,” people usually say the opposite, but this is a motto I’ve used throughout my life. When things aren’t going well, they have a tendency to bounce back. 'Memento', to me, is my pick-up song. When I sing “gotta get you on your way now”, I’m saying that it’s time to move on and move forward. I’ve had many moments in my life where I’ve lost momentum and felt directionless like I’d fallen into a black hole. It’s hard to crawl out of the hole and get back on track. I think there are a lot of people who spend their time thinking about how they need to get back on track. Listen to this song and remind yourself it’s time to look forward and lean into the future."

Sam Syrah Drops New Single "Philosophy"

Brisbane indie rock/alt artist Sam Syrah (aka Sam Shepherd) has dropped his new single "Philosophy".

Previously a member of Daisy & The White Jacket, Port Royal and occasionally playing live with McDermott & North, Shepherd is confidently taking flight with Sam Syrah. Whilst a solo project, it is also a celebration of friendship, with Shepherd’s closest friends from bands including Juno and Port Royal taking up their instruments. This is the evolution of a musician who is hitting his stride with an exploration of a more personal approach to storytelling, and a sound that won’t back down.

The song is taken from his forthcoming EP ‘Some Things Stay The Same’ (due out later this year). Get it here.

From the get-go, ‘Philosophy’ whisks you up in its unapologetically sensual sound, showing off some blistering guitar work and lyrics that dance between pining and complete surrender – but it’s Shepherd’s arresting voice that takes centre stage. The line, ‘Such a thing is hard to find’ leads into an effortlessly tantalising guitar solo that reaches fever pitch, and the surprise of a second encore for the song’s epic finale is everything the story deserves.

A tale of seduction, underpinned by the sweet sentiment of looking back on the past with fondness, Shepherd explains: "This song is a nod to a past relationship. Acknowledging that yes, a lot went on, however, then was then and now is of course now - no hard feelings, only love and appreciation remains."
