New Entry: Common Goldfish Drops New Single "Shout Louder"

Tottenham-based indie rock/psych Common Goldfish has dropped his new single "Shout Louder".

Following his debut single ‘Feel The Fuzz’, common goldfish combines dynamic guitars, pounding drums and synths in the ethereal ‘Shout Louder’. While one may consider this something shoegaze-ish in the beginning, as the track progresses you notice a stronger leaning toward 90s rock. This is particularly true with the crescendos of guitars into catchy choruses. What I find most unique is the interspersed keyboard sounds adding an eclectic quality to the song.

Speaking about how the track was made, common goldfish shares: “I created the beat using a mix of 90’s break samples. Quite quickly I had the bass line and piano. I’d been watching the “Get Back” documentary, which definitely inspired the vocals and psychedelic guitar sounds. The track was making me think of being outside with friends in the sun, and the lyrics try to capture this.”

The song is out today (June 16). Get it here and stream it below.

Two Door Cinema Club Announce New LP 'Keep On Smiling', Stream "Wonderful Life"

Irish indie band Two Door Cinema Club have announced the release of their fifth studio album 'Keep On Smiling'.

The follow-up to their 2019's album False Alarm, was written and produced by the band both during and coming out of lockdown, with additional production from Jacknife Lee (Bloc Party, The Killers, Taylor Swift) and Dan Grech Marguerat (Halsey, Lana Del Rey, George Ezra), it will be out on September 2 via Lower Third/[PIAS]. Pre-order your copy here.

Keep On Smiling as a title implies a couple different things: for one, it’s a steadfast image of positivity and optimism, a plea to keep spirits bright in the face of anguish. But it also suggests that that anguish is nearly impossible to avoid, that the heaviness of our current reality is too hard to ignore, and to keep on smiling is an ironic way of acknowledging everyone’s pessimism.

The dichotomy of this idea — optimism versus pessimism, acknowledging change versus ignoring it — is at the core of Keep On Smiling. And in true Two Door Cinema Club fashion, the band has channeled these ideas through a bright, neon-colored glow, full of glitzy synths, classic melodies, and some nods to their raucous and bustling debut, Tourist History.

The band have also shared the album’s lead single, “Wonderful Life,” which represents the LP’s contrasting ideas perfectly. Though bassist Kevin Baird and guitarist Sam Halliday claim that a bulk of Keep On Smiling was crafted pre-pandemic in the months following False Alarm, “Wonderful Life” was one of the more recent tracks they worked on, and serves well as the album’s thesis and entry point. “It feels perfect, it sounds like us, it is us,” Baird says of the song. “We’re starting to get into the summer, it’s a ‘here we go’ kind of thing.”

New Entry: Stephen Mallinder Drops New Single "Contact"

Brighton, UK musician Stephen Mallinder, co-founder and frontman of the iconic Cabaret Voltaire, has dropped his new single "Contact".

The song is taken from his second solo album 'tick tick tick', which will be out on July 15 via Dais Records, pre-order it here.

Channeling the temporal malaise of lockdown through a lusher palette of modular electronics and stereo strings, the songs embrace ambiguity and plasticity, loose systems of percolating circuitry and airless funk. Recorded across a handful of sessions at MemeTune Studios in Cornwall with frequent collaborator Benge (aka Ben Edwards), Mallinder cites no guiding aesthetic premise for the collection beyond “cowbell on every track, and entirely no reverb.”

Watch: Grotto Terrazza Reveals New Single/Video "Der Zaubergeselle"

Munich-based post punk/new wave/experimental outfit Grotto Terrazza (aka Thomas Schamann of Bleib Modern), has revealed the video for his new single "Der Zaubergeselle".

The song is taken from his forthcoming sophomore album 'Kalte Köstlichkeiten', which will be out on August 26th via Cut Surface and Maple Death Records. Pre-order your copy here.

If his 2019 debut ‘Stumpfer Gegenstand’ (also co-released by Cut Surface and Maple Death) introduced us to Grotto Terrazza’s beautiful intimate translucent dark beat poetry set over art-punk ritmik, foggy nightclubs and musk-induced industrial malaise, Kalte Köstlichkeiten sets the record straight by adding a whole new dimension.

Cold Delicacies (the literal translation) delivers so much more, 12 melting popsicles that furiously jump from dancefloor post-punk, brazen EBM, funk sleaze and smoked out cold-wave. What really ties Thomas’ musical world together is the scattered use of field recordings, musique concrete and quite literally... life, all sprinkled across his oeuvre, his personal secret weapon, turning an already detailed album into a scrap journal with laser focus.

The song is taken from their new EP 'Stay The Night', out tomorrow (June 17).

On their EP Daffodils explained: "it about things changing, losing people, and learning from the things you do when you’re younger. It’s about my experience with how hard it is to let stuff go, and how hard it is to detach yourself from regrets and painful parts of the past, which often tend to overwhelm all the good things that happen. Each song is kind of a different introspection, about different aspects of growing up.”.
