New Entry: Hallan Release New Single "Modern England"

Portsmouth indie rock/alt/post punk band Hallan have released their new single "Modern England".

The song is out today (August 7) through Nice Swan Records. Get it here.

UPDATE 10/08/2020: "Modern England" is our new Single of the Week!

Drawing influences from the people you cross every day – in the supermarket aisles, on your Facebook feed, next door neighbours – Hallan observe and commentate on British life via an Orwell-influenced bleak vision of the future and the cut-up style of Burroughs and other beat generationers. Heavily influenced by the classic post-punk sounds of Joy Division and The Fall, ‘Modern England’ is a hard-hitting social commentary on England today, from the housing crisis and plummeting employment rates to Brexit and uninspiring modern indie music, that frontman Connor Clements wrote over the top of an instrumental demo.

He says of the track: “It’s the characters in our town, the conversations they have and what we see on our television sets. We want to reflect what’s going on in the here. We don’t want to make a one-sided political message or talk for a generation. The song is exactly what it sounds like. A condensed England if you will. With so many strange and vapid trends gripping the nation sometimes you have to take it all in and find some humour beneath the surface. Pugs and face changing apps. What’s that all about? And how could we forget Brexit? It’s a good job we all have our red passports. But then again does anyone in the country have a clue what’s ever going on? Maybe it’ll all blow over if I stick to my microwave dinner and keep my eyes on the screen.”

Watch: Latenight Honeymoon Reveal "Afterglow" Music Video

London indie rock band Latenight Honeymoon have revealed the video for their latest single "Afterglow".

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from their two-part double EP 'ℂ𝕠𝕕𝕖𝕡𝕖𝕟𝕕𝕖𝕟𝕔𝕪', out on August 28th.

About the song: An ode to all the healthy relationships that have transformed into nightmares thanks to the unprecedented times we find ourselves in. Communicating so inhumanly via the phone screens we are chained too. Laced with an important message of learning to let go of unhealthy codependency issues and pushed to the limit by factors out of our control.

A sugar-coated lesson in amicable breakups.

A newfound intensity born out of the very nature of being stuck inside like we have NEVER known before. Either suffocated by each other, in the same household while we try and contextualise the meaning behind what this pandemic means for us as individuals, or stopped from seeing loved ones in person and again enforcing communication through emotionless pixels.

Frankie and the Witch Fingers Announce New LP, Stream "Sweet Freak"

Los Angeles psychedelic-rock band Frankie and the Witch Fingers have announced the released of their new album 'Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters...'.

The follow-up to 2019's ZAM, will be out on October 2 via RAS / Greenway. Pre-order your copy here.

Following the rhythm-wracked previous single “Cavehead,” the band strikes back with another new track that seeks to siphon from the cosmic horror and wonder that lurks between the fibers of space and time. As you prepare to cast off your mortal cage and summon the cruel cosmic gods of old, the tones of "Sweet Freak" strike up, creating a bodily hum that aligns the humors, walking the listener to the edge and slipping over the side of the fissure. Fueled by ravenous riffs and a thunder of bass, the song takes a more insistent tack than the Witch Fingers followed last, but like “Cavehead,” that howling heartbeat of rhythm drives the song like an engine. Sax stabs jolt the listener to life, guitars dart in and out before reaching an apex of amplifier froth.

The accompanying video, shot by Spaghetti Jesus, pulls from a childhood love of science fiction and Kaiju films, a fascination for claymation, and a fear of the dark. SJ admits, “I was definitely aiming to make a short cosmic horror film that walked the line between camp and nightmare fuel,” and he’s not foolin '. The clip rakes in the waking horror of capture and vivisection and runs it through the psychedelic childhood comfort of claymation before melting your mind in the sun.
