Guards Share "Just Like Heaven" (The Cure cover)

New York-based fuzz-pop band Guards have shared their cover version of The Cure's classic "Just Like Heaven".

The song is from their forthcoming covers album 'More Cover Songs', which will be out on August 2 via CGR.

Speaking of the cover, Richie Follin said, “The Cure has always held a special place in my heart. They were the first concert I took my little sister to and they played for almost four hours. It was hard to pick which of their songs to cover, but I happened to turn on the radio in a rental car, and 'Just like heaven' came on so I took it as a sign.”

Guards Announce new LP 'Modern Hymns', Stream "Last Stand"

New York-based fuzz-pop band Guards (the project of Richie Follin from Cults/Willowz) have announced the release of their new album 'Modern Hymns'.

The follow-up to 2013 LP In Guards We Trust, was produced by Follin himself and mixed at The Notch in Los Angeles by Sean O'Brien, and will be out on May 22 via Kobalt. The themes on the album are wide ranging because of the long gestation period, but Follin's welcoming his first child into the world during the recording heavily contributed to the new focus and lyrical concerns.

The record features notable contributions from Mike Shuman (Queens of the Stone Age), Money Mark (Beastie Boys), Patrick Keeler (Raconteurs, Greenhornes), Benji Lysaght (Father John Misty, Beck), James Richardson (MGMT), Matt Schaeffer (Kendrick Lamar), and Brian Oblivion (Cults).

About the clip and the track, she said:  "'Wild' is a song built upon conflicting elements, like a heavy disco beat and an aggressive tone in lyric. I had the idea to visually represent it with a "Cheer Coven" – a group of girls that are on the same team, but very much against one another. It's a subtle nod to the theme of duality that runs throughout REGINA and was an opportunity to play with symbolism that I've embraced as an artist over the years."

“Instead of multiple music videos, REGINA as a singular short film is a narrative built on three characters – Fever, Faith, and Fortune (three themes that have held the most weight for me in my career.) Fever, represented by “Possession” is about raw, all-consuming emotion that threatens to knock us off balance or take us to an unstable place. Faith, cued by the “Ex” interlude, represents grace, rebuilding, and learning how to rise up and embrace the different facets of ourselves, and finally Fortune (“Wild”) is mastery/the result of unwavering faith and a true acceptance of self.”

Raised on a diet of New Order, Iron Maiden, and the movements of the 80s, Sydney Banta combines electronic and analog elements to create the powerhouse that is L.A. Girlfriend.
