New Entry: Spector Share Unreleased Track "Felony"

London-based indie rock band Spector have shared a previously unreleased song called "Felony".

The song is the final recording taken from the 'Now Or Whenever' sessions, the album came out earlier this year via their Moth Noise imprint. Get it here.

Speaking about the song, frontman Fed Macpherson explains: ”Jed played us an early version ‘Felony’ during the ‘Moth Boys’ sessions and the chorus has been going round my head since. Luckily, like My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless, it only took seven years to finish. It’s the final song of the (covid-extended) ‘Now or Whenever’ era, released to celebrate our tour starting tonight. Will we play it live? Come and see.”

Bandmate Jed Cullen continues: “Sometimes doing absolutely nothing and letting those initial emotions of infatuation fade can uncover a friendship much more beautiful and long lasting than how a more romantic relationship might have gone. It can be really embarrassing to then look back and think that you fancied one of your friends and that’s probably why it took so much convincing from Fred for me to finish writing this song.”

Watch: Weird Nightmare Air New single/Video "Lusitania"

Canada alternative duo Weird Nightmare (the electrifying new project from METZ guitarist and singer Alex Edkins) have aired the video for their new single "Lusitania".

The song is taken from their self-titled album, out May 20th via Sub Pop Records. Pre-order your copy here.

If you’re looking for a raw, sugary blast of distorted pop, look no further than Weird Nightmare. The debut album contains all of his main band’s bite with an unexpected, yet totally satisfying, sweetness. Imagine The Amps covering Big Star, or the gloriously hissy miniature epics of classic-era Guided by Voices combined with the bombast of Copper Blue- era Sugar—just tons of red-line distortion cut with the type of tunecraft that thrills the moment it hits your ears.

Edkins says of the song, “‘Lusitania’ was a big breakthrough for the entire Weird Nightmare album. I realized that, musically,  my goal was to make songs that would make people feel good! This idea of waking up from a terrible dream or winter changing into spring. Momentary relief. We all need that feeling right now and music has always been what I turn to most.” The video for the song was directed by Colin Medley.

With lyrics like ‘I won’t follow where a fool drowns, I’ll see it through until the day I die’, the band say that the moody psychedelic post-punk of ‘Dreamcatcher’ is a song “about defiance against a sense of being held down, an idea which occurs constantly throughout the album.” The single’s new video is the third in a trilogy by film-maker Laura Conlon that also includes lead singles ‘Sad Paradise’ and ‘Into Blue’.

Watch: White Flowers Drop New Single/Video "Are You"

Preston, UK dreampop/noir pop/post punk/shoegaze band White Flowers (Katie Drew and Joey Cobb) have dropped the video for their new single "Are You".

The song is the title track of their upcoming new EP set to arrive on May 13 via Tough Love. Pre-order your copy here.

The EP is a sonic and aesthetic collage drawing deeply from their environmental and social surroundings. The songs on the EP may at first seem delicate and beautiful, but closer listening reveals dark undertones and dry humour fuelled by the frustration of feeling trapped with no way out. Driven by this sense of claustrophobia, the duo have sought to create a form of escapism outside of their physical and geographical limitations.

Recorded late 2021 between Preston and Bristol, ‘Are You’ weaves together a mixture of intuitive home recordings and refined studio production aided by producer Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Portishead, Perfume Genius). The four songs on the EP are an intentional collection of contrasts and paradoxes - beauty and repulsion, calmness and mania, anxiety and stasis - all combined to form a balanced whole.
