White Lies Release New Single "Trouble In America"

London indie/post punk trio White Lies have released their new single "Trouble In America", alongside an accompanying music video.

Speaking about it, the band says: "We gave up on b-sides years ago, and go into making an album with the sole aim to fit the most cohesive 40 mins of music onto two sides of a 12"; that we can. Unfortunately that means some music is sidelined at the final hurdle. "Trouble In America" was the hardest song to leave off. It was written a couple of days after "I Really Going to Die" and lives in the same world, and energy. Desperation Funk? In this song we jump between the mind of a serial killer, and his good Christian teenage daughter as she realises who...or what her father is and always has been. “My old man's making trouble in America! Oh, lord, take the weight off me!" she pleads over a cock-rock, Todd Rundgren-esque chorus.  We have a history of bonus tracks becoming live favourites, and we’re putting a bitcoin on this horse to keep up tradition."

The song is taken from the bonus edition of 'As I Try Not To Fall Apart', which will be out digitally on 21st October via [PIAS] . Get it here.

Cool Sounds Share New Single "Like That"

Melbourne indie/jangle pop band Cool Sounds have shared their new single "Like That".

The song serves as the title track of their upcoming fifth studio album 'Like That', set to be released on October 7 via Chapter Music. Pre-order your copy here.

The title track is a moment of introspection on the album, like the ballad in an eighties teen movie. Cool Sounds’ pop polymath.

Dainis Lacey says:

"I sometimes like to create worlds and narratives that are too large to fit into a song and then pick and choose parts. In this track a gym rat and a business man become unlikely friends, and both have near death experiences. When I was writing this I was thinking about 80s shoegaze bands like Jesus and Mary Chain. It's a sound that feels equally at home with both blissfully romantic or somewhat seedier content."

PVA Premiere New Single "Bunker"

London electronic/dance trio PVA have premiered their new single "Bunker".

The song is taken from their highly-anticipated debut album 'BLUSH', due out 14th October via Ninja Tune. Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about it, the band explain: “We started playing ‘Bunker’ almost as soon as the band started. Originally just a looped groove, it has evolved into the live track it is today through various compositions and outings live. The song tries to act as a reminder to overcome the want to chase things that ultimately lead to isolation.”

The eleven blistering tracks from the group, Ella Harris and Josh Baxter (who share lead vocals as well as handling synths, guitars and production) alongside drummer and percussionist Louis Satchell, are made from a formula of acid, disco, blistering synths, the release of the dancefloor and cathartic sprechgesang post-punk.

Pastel Unleash New Single "S.O.H.O"

British indie/brit rock band Pastel have unleashed their new single "S.O.H.O".

The song is taken from their forthcoming second EP 'Deeper Than Holy', which will be available on October 21st via Manchester indie label Spirit of Spike Island. Get it here.

‘S.O.H.O.’ immediately fires on all cylinders, its ‘90s-tinged indie-dance strut propelled by John Squire-esque guitars before its breakdown explodes back into life with a bang that will ignite live shows and club nights alike. Frontman Jack Yates’ voice also stands out, blending trademark Manchester style with a soulful edge.

The ‘Isaiah’ EP will feature ‘S.O.H.O.’ and the recently released title track alongside two new songs in the shape of ‘Escape’ and ‘Two Fools’. ‘Escape’ channels the spirit of early Verve, dreamy psychedelia possessing an air of both nostalgia and optimism. The concluding ‘Two Fools’ is a bigger beast, contrasting spiralling big riffs with a spacey acoustic passage before once again hitting hard. In short, ‘Isaiah’ shows that Pastel bring a palpable new energy to their storied musical roots.

Guitarist James Yates says, “This EP feels like a step up, like we’re growing musically and expanding on our sound! It’s everything we’re about. Trippy and chilled out with a proper deep groove to it. No other young British band is doing anything nearly as good, and we cannot wait for things to pop off in 2023 when our debut album drops.”
