Donzii Premiere New Single/Video "Fun"

Miami via New York no-wave/post-punk band Donzii have premiered their new single "Fun", and its accompanying music video.

The song is out today (April 15) via Grey Market Records, and is taken their highly-anticipated debut album 'Fishbowl', which will be released on Grey Market Records later this year. Get it here.

The band's own Jenna Balfe explains: “The message of Fun is that life indeed can be hard, but somehow we have to find a way to have joy. I mean that in a way that takes into account the unbearable hardships that many many people face. It is the intention of the human spirit to overcome and find a way to laugh, Conversely, I also mean it to inspire one to laugh at the sort of pressure or 'toxic positivity' that we see all the time on social media for example.”

Simesky+Fritch Unleash New Single "Such Imperfection"

UK no wave/avant-garde/electronic/post punk project Simesky+Fritch have unleashed their new single "Such Imperfection".

A future retro love-letter to gloss-polished pop, neon nu-wave and cool indie. As the decades collide from The Cure, Peter Gabriel and Brian Eno to Tears for Fears, Royksopp and Robyn, every sweetly honed sonic shines sultry. And in extending that love letter to the best lost tradition of A-side and B-side 80’s vinyl, the 7” edit arrives with a full 12” mix that weaves synthwave with prog-glam and grandeur. This is lo-fi turned hi-fi and glistening.

Living in Belgium, United Simesky Institutes has worked with Budapest Scoring Orchestra and scored high with releases of sweet 80’s synthwave amongst the ranks of Vice & We Write About Music. Fritch comes from Wales, and comes fresh from an album that gained 5-star comparisons to Bowie’s Blackstar and Scott Walker. This is music that moves across boundaries, this is UK and Belgium combined.

But right here a new cult is created. Right here is a new sound entirely.

With shared production, shared writing, shared artwork, shared visions, the debut single from Simesky+Fritch is a celebration of a meeting of minds. It’s a lean synth-kissed passion for pop.

This is music that cuts across decades. This is new nu-wave love for the steal.

Wstch: Ganser Unleash New Single/Video "People Watching"

Chicago art rock/no wave/post punk/alt band Ganser have unleashed the video for their brand new single "People Watching".

The track is taken from their forthcoming EP ‘Nothing You Do Matters’ produced by Liars' Angus Andrew, set to arrive on October 5th via Felte Records. Pre-order your copy here.

“People Watching” is almost a mini-suite of a jam, which first kicks in your door and then lulls you with what feels like comfort, before tearing your place apart on the way out. It’s a thrasher of a tune that is more deliberate than breathless, picking its spots to twist the lyrical knife of talk until the words lose meaning, which circle the drain of the song repeatedly, until it has evicted you, or you have evicted it.

Watch/listen below.

Nothing You Do Matters tracklist:
1. People Watching
2. What Me Worry
3. People Watching (Liars Remix)

New Entry: Loose Fit Drop New Single "Stupid Drama"

Sydney no wave/post punk quartet Loose Fit have dropped their new single "Stupid Drama".

The song is taken from their upcoming new album 'Social Graces', set to arrive on April 26 through FatCat Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about it, band member Anna Langdon says: "The song has a cool repetitive minimal funk thing going on reminiscent of Use No Hooks and Pylon, but the vocals are sharp, dry and fiery, sometimes eroding into an acerbic Sleaford Mods style bored and anguished drawl. It's a bratty, snotty, foot-stomping, sax-screeching romp through the types of absurd, mundane predicaments that sometimes grow so big they seem to generate their own gravitational fields. I always feel like I'm gasping for air in this song, which fits well with the theme of being completely fed-up and trying to laugh about it."

Loose Fit Announce New LP 'Social Graces', Stream Title Track

Sydney no wave/post punk quartet Loose Fit have announced the release of their new studio album 'Social Graces'.

Set for release on April 26 through FatCat Records, the record features 11 tracks of rhythmically-taut, anxiety-driven post-punk featuring the distinctive vocal chants of singer/sax player Anna Langdon. Pre-order your copy here.

Building on the success of their self-titled EP, the album expands the Loose Fit sound-world to include a dub-influenced march through social media bleakness, ACR-style exercises in rhythm and tension, and an atmospheric coda featuring eerie trumpet from drummer Kaylene Milner. It also features a number of the band’s concise, propulsive bangers including the title track and previous single ‘Exhale

Social Graces is a journey through familiar deeply human themes as well as sharp observations of contemporary absurdity. Lyrics about love, hope, fear, loss, and pain are woven amongst visual depictions of acquisition culture, weather patterns, digital life, adventures in wild landscapes, deep introspection, parties and mundane daily experiences.

“I think the album is a truthful document of a weird time. Covid-era has sucked (of course), but did give us time to explore new sounds and ways of working. It was a shit time to be a band, but it was great to have a vessel to channel all our anxieties and pent-up energy into. I think the album has all that fucked-up 2020/2021 energy in it.”, Bassist Richard Martin says.

New single - also called ‘Social Graces’ - is a frantic 2’29” blast of nervy punk. The song was written in 2020 inspired by the nervous tension in the air after the initial months of covid-induced house arrest. People were finally allowed to meet in the federally sanctioned groups of 5, but found themselves too nervous to touch each other for fear of infection and felt awkward in communication. There was a sense of relearning how to be together.

It comes with a video, directed by Solomon Thomas, that riffs off the song’s themes of discomfort and social anxiety. Awkwardly miming in front of vintage painted stage backdrops, the band are transformed one-by-one into grotesquely-masked characters who try and fail to find the social “normal”.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for "Social Graces" below.

Social Graces Tracklist:
01. Social Graces
02. Cool Change
03. Stupid Drama
04. Cut Your Teeth
05. Exhale
06. Mosquito
07. Colours For The Walls
08. Best Face Forward
09. On Land
10. Enemies
11. Potential Things

Watch: Loose Fit Premiere New Single/Video "Exhale"

Sydney no wave/post punk quartet Loose Fit have premiered the video for their new single "Exhale".

The song is out today (November 9) through FatCat Records. Get it here.

Speaking about it, singer Anna Langdon says: "'Exhale' has a sense of momentum musically which is perfect for the theme of being dragged or pulled or drifting away from something and towards something else. I think the song communicates a tension between letting go, falling deeply into desire, into passion, and trying to maintain steadiness in the process. I think it's about an inner struggle for sure."

Watch: YVETTE Shares New Single/Video "Contact High"

New York avant garde/experimental/neo-no wave artist YVETTE (aka Noah Kardos-Fein) has shared the video for his new single "Contact High".

The song is taken from his upcoming second album 'How The Garden Grows', which will be available on September 17 through Western Vinyl. Pre-order your copy here.

Keeping in line with one of the album's themes, the dynamics of control versus what cannot be controlled, Contact High investigates how our relationships (to ourselves as well as others) are mediated by our methods of communication. To this end, Kardos-Fein suggests that “Our experiences, communications, and memories are refracted, channelled through and carved by multiple means of instant communication and rapid-fire knowledge-sharing. Your presence can be pruned and cultivated. Ideas and systems can be distorted and co-opted in the blink of an eye. It’s beautiful, sublime, dangerous, and terrifying all at once. To what degree do we take these things for granted, on a daily basis passively accepting our heavily mediated reality? We are connected, but do we connect? We are talking to and hearing each other, but are we listening?”

Watch: Clear History Air Debut Single/Video "Solar Death Ray"

Berlin post punk/no wave trio Clear History have aired their debut single the video for their new single "Solar Death Ray".

The song is taken from their forthcoming debut EP 'bad advice good people', which will be available on November 5th through Upset The Rhythm. Pre-order your copy here.

The six songs on the EP cast a huge net across themes of raucous opposition, identity, closeness, gifting and exploding cars. They are a full-hearted call to arms from a stubborn Aries concerned with wasting time and energy. With such rapport for the touchstones of danceable post-punk (ESG, Kleenex, Gang of Four) Clear History are proud hi-hat botherers, bounding along with the plummy bassline, joining the dots whilst thinking to the beat. This debut documents the tantalising first sparks from a band intent on holding up a magnifying glass to the sun.
