Crack Cloud Drop New Single/Video "Costly Engineered Illusion"

Vancouver, BC punk/experimental band Crack Cloud have dropped the video for their new single "Costly Engineered Illusion".

The song is taken from their upcoming sophomore album 'Tough Baby', set to be released on September 16 via the band’s own Crack Cloud Media Studio imprint. Pre-order your copy here.

Of its accompanying video which also sees release today, Crack Cloud offer: "We spent a week in Trenčín, Slovakia, over the summer producing a theatre representation of the housing crisis in Western Canada. It was our first venture into live theatre; the process was spontaneous, disorienting, and new. Finding synergy with Silvia Sviteková and her dance company was an elevating experience, reinforcing our mutual love for creative improvisation. The video is primarily a compilation of B roll from our time there."

Crack Cloud Announce New LP 'Tough Baby' Stream "Please Yourself"

Vancouver, BC punk/experimental band Crack Cloud have announced the release of their second full-length album 'Tough Baby'.

The 10-track album and follow-up to 2020's debut Pain Olympics, will be out on September 16 via Meat Machine. Pre-order your copy here.

Tough Baby is both a clarion call and a life-manual for the listener. Witness the opening track ‘Danny’s Message’, which has two key lines, seemingly recorded on a dictaphone. One is an entreaty: “I hope you guys can learn a lot from what I’m trying to tell you.” The other, a command: “Music is an excellent way to let your anger out, put it all on paper.” The voice is that of Danny Choy, the father of Zach. Danny was fatally diagnosed with Leukaemia at 29. Zach explains: “Before he passed, he left behind a wealth of poems, song transcriptions, carvings and audio journals for my family to remember him by.” Zach is now 29. Appropriately Danny’s influence, still “all-encompassing” twenty years later, launches Tough Baby.

They’ve invited comparisons to Psychic TV with their anarchic yet close knit collective of similarly minded musicians, complete with an ideological manifesto and emphasis on symbolic imagery. Fans of punk, art rock, krautrock, no wave and experimental rock should give this one a go.

Watch: Crack Cloud Release Music Video For "Uncanny Valley!"

Canadian post punk band Crack Cloud have released the video for "Uncanny Valley!"

About the track, the band posted:

"The Uncanny Valley illustrates the dichotomy between dogmatism and identity. The song is split between two movements representing growth. The first movement is about dealing with and confronting idealistic worldview. It was important to represent time by editing visuals in a non-linear fashion. We wanted to express imagery relating to religion, masculinity, violence and addiction in a cyclical nightmarish way. It’s about waking up and confronting your demons."

"The second movement deals with forging an identity in a homogenized world. It’s about everybody telling you who you are before you even know who you are. This movement evolves from the more muted colour pallete of the first half into a more vibrant highly saturated look that evokes blooming growth. We wanted to break stigmas towards addiction and rehabilitation. The hope is to create conversation towards restorative justice and to carve a path or find and foster communities that contextualizes people’s lives so we can have a better understanding of each other. It’s about taking accountability of who you are and who you plan to be. It’s about confronting pragmatism in communities and identifying that disposability is rooted in criminal justice and that the people who hurt the most from it can also be the most vulnerable. Class, race, generational violence and trauma all playing a heavy hand."

The video was directed, produced and edited by Crack Cloud.  Uncanny Valley!! Marks the end of a visual trilogy that began with IMAGE CRAFT and SWISH SWASH.
