Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Premiere New Single "Dive Deep"

Australia soft punk/indie rock band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have premiered their new single "Dive Deep".

The song is taken from their upcoming third studio album 'Endless Rooms', which will be released this Friday, May 6 via Sub Pop Records and Ivy League Records. Pre-order your copy here.

'Dive Deep' features a slow-burn rhythm and an enormous lead guitar hook. “This is a simple song of devotion,” says Tom Russo. “It’s about if you are going to give in to love, you need to go all in, and accept that you have no control in the matter. It began as a home recording during lockdown. I recorded the guide vocals and guitars with my new baby strapped to my chest. When we could finally get together to play it, Joe White came up with the perfect lead guitar tone. He was given full license to wail, and did so.. I remember sitting by the fire, looking up at the stars, and hearing the guitar echoing all around the valley."

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Unleash New Single/Video "My Echo"

Australia soft punk/indie rock band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have unleashed the video for their new single "My Echo".

The song is taken from their upcoming third studio album 'Endless Rooms', which will be released on May 6 via Sub Pop Records and Ivy League Records. Pre-order your copy here.

'My Echo' is a guitar-driven earworm, carrying melancholy-tinged lyrics: “Count all the pangs // that ache // While you lay there // Keep on the screen // But in between // You wait there.” The song is about being surrounded by phone screens, computer screens, tv screens, paranoia and loss of time and place,” says Fran Keaney. “The album recording is pretty faithful to the very first rough recording. Most of Tom’s leads were improvised but they became the DNA of the song.” The video starts a staged performance of the band playing, and ends with them donning giant paper-maché heads.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Announce New LP 'Endless Rooms', Stream "The Way It Shatters"

Australia soft punk/indie rock band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have announced the release of their third studio album 'Endless Rooms'.

The follow-up to 2020's album Sideways to New Italy, was self-produced by the band (alongside engineer, collaborator and old friend, Matt Duffy), and will be released on May 6 via Sub Pop Records and Ivy League Records. Pre-order your copy here.

While initial ideas for Endless Rooms were traded online during long spells spent separated by Australia’s strict lockdowns, the album was truly born during small windows of freedom in which the band would decamp to a mud-brick house in the bush around two hours north of Melbourne built by the extended Russo family in the 1970s. There, its 12 tracks took shape, informed to such an extent by the acoustics and ambience of the rambling lakeside house that they decided to record the album there (and put the house on the album cover).

Endless Rooms is a collection of songs permeated by the spirit of the place; punctuated by field recordings of rain, fire, birds, and wind. "It's almost an anti-concept album," says the band. "The Endless Rooms of the title reflects our love of creating worlds in our songs. We treat each of them as a bare room to be built up with infinite possibilities."

Lead single 'The Way It Shatters' started simply as a home recorded MIDI-jam before expanding into the blistering earworm it is now. It heavily features synth, an instrument rarely seen on previous releases from Rolling Blackouts C.F. The band further elaborates: “It’s about how ending up in your particular situation in life is the result of absolute randomness. If you happen to be born into wealthy Australia or happen to be born into a war zone in Syria. That’s just the way it shatters. So it’s when this good luck is mistaken for a sense of pride in one’s self or their country they become confused and deluded about what’s important. It’s when those on the other side of the luck scale are completely othered and considered not worthy.” In the accompanying video, directed by frequent collaborator Nick Mckk, Joe White plays a man who wakes up on the shore and stumbles into a birthday party, attended by the rest of the band members.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Announce New LP 'Sideways to New Italy', Stream "She's There"

Australia soft punk/indie rock band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have announced the release of their highly anticipated sophomore album 'Sideways to New Italy'.

The follow-up to 2018's debut Hope Downs – featuring recent single ‘Cars In Space’ and new single ‘She’s There’ – will be released on June 5th via Sub Pop Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Sideways to New Italy takes inspiration and its name from New Italy, a tiny, 200-person village near New South Wales’ Northern Rivers, the area from which Rolling Blackouts C.F. drummer Marcel Tussie hails. Feeling dislocated after touring the world in support of their acclaimed Hope Downs, the quintet—singer-songwriter-guitarists Tom Russo, Joe White and Fran Keaney, bassist Joe Russo and Tussie—went back to their roots, revisiting their pasts so as to find the strength and sense of purpose to forge a new future.

“I wanted to write songs that I could use as some sort of bedrock of hopefulness to stand on, something to be proud of,” says Keaney. “A lot of the songs on the new record are reaching forward and trying to imagine an idyll of home and love.” That idyll wouldn’t exist without the people it comprises, though: “We tried to make these little nods to our friends and loved ones, to stay loyal to our old selves,” Russo adds.

She’s There” is a driving, guitar-forward track that imbues Rolling Blackouts C.F.’s brawny, deftly melodic rock with a newfound wisdom. The song concerns “love and heavy delusions,” per a press release, with Russo singing, “Stuck on the edge, she said / Time it’s a river / Only one way, down together,” his lyrics evoking the imperfect evanescence of human connection. Time won’t slow for our regrets, or double back for another pass at a missed opportunity—all we can do is make the most of each moment. “All my accidents breathe in time,” repeats Russo as the song winds down.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for "She's There" below.

Sideways to New Italy Tracklist:

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Announce Debut LP, Stream "Talking Straight"

Australia soft punk/indie rock band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have announced the release of their highly-anticipated debut album 'Hope Downs'.

The record "an undeniably rich and sophisticated collection of passionate guitar pop", is out Friday June 15 through Ivy League Records.

It was largely written over the past year in the band's Melbourne rehearsal room where their previous releases were also written and recorded. The band's core trio of songwriters— Fran Keaney, Joe White, and Tom Russo—hunkered down and wrote as the chaos of the world outside unavoidably seeped into the songwriting process. “We were feeling like we were in a moment where the sands were shifting and the world was getting a lot weirder. There was a general sense that things were coming apart at the seams and people around us were too”. Russo explains. “The songs on this album are like a collection of postcards about wider things that were going on through the lens of these small characters.”

Pre-order the album here, check out the tracklist, and the video for their new single "Talking Straight", below.

Tracklist:
01. An Air Conditioned Man
02. Talking Straight
03. Mainland
04. Time In Common
05. Sister’s Jeans
06. Bellarine
07. Cappuccino City
08. Exclusive Grave
