Watch: Big Wild Releases New Single/Video "Who Do You Believe"

Portland electronic/dance/pop artist Big Wild (aka Jackson Stell) has released the video for his brand new single “Who Do You Believe".

The song is out today via Counter Records, and is "an urgent question that producer, songwriter and vocalist Jackson Stell poses to his listeners ahead of the 2020 US election." Get it here.

Through an enthralling arrangement of arpeggiated synths, undulating guitar, rising walls of bass, drums and hypnotic vocals, “shouting at the screen,” Big Wild captures the hysteria of false narratives, misinformation and biased agendas disseminated by mass media during an unparalleled, divisive point in history. In both the song and its striking music video, Stell envisions a future in which we leave blind faith behind and build a culture driven by individual critical thought, bereft of propagated falsehoods and indoctrination.

Not only does Stell present a new sense of personal audacity to his listenership, he also unveils yet another facet of his stylistic versatility, as his psychedelic, mesmeric vocals and neo-pop production, reminiscent of a new-age Tame Impala, furthers him as the next alternative artist to watch.

To accompany the electric single, Big Wild revealed a bold visual, societal commentary in tandem, centered around the crucial pursuit of truth amid polarization and partisanship.

New Entry: Big Wild Shares New Single "Touch"

Portland electronic/dance/pop artist Big Wild (aka Jackson Stell) has shared his new single “Touch".

The song is "a euphoric and eerily prescient that captures the lingering reminiscence of physical contact," is out today (May 13th) via Counter Records. Buy it here.

Created entirely before the pandemic - and originally set to premiere during a pivotal, prime-time performance at Coachella last month - singer/songwriter/producer Stell built the song around the feeling of yearning born of out being separated from his partner during months on tour. That personal experience has since turned global, and the music of Big Wild continues to “flip the script on everything”.

As Stell explains, “I’m sure with the current state of the world ‘Touch’ will take on a different meaning than I intended but that’s the best part of writing music, seeing where a song goes. I can’t claim any foresight, but the feeling of deep longing and desire is universal. It’s interesting because I was writing from a personal place but this theme is something we’re feeling on a societal level right now. People need connection.”

Watch the lyric video for below, taking visual cues from Quentin Tarantino as it channels the warm, Western landscapes that influenced the track’s summer-ready sound.

The Maccabees Confirm They're Working On New Album

London indie band The Maccabees have confirmed that they are back in the studio working on their fourth album, the follow-up to 2012's Given To The Wild, and revealed that they hope to get it finished by the end of year.

Frontman Orlando Weeks told NME:

"We went straight back into our studio in Elephant & Castle at the end of last year. We spent time doing it up too - I was painting the kitchen."

"We had such a busy time after 'Given To The Wild' and to feel excited enough to get on with a new album straight away must mean something."

Guitarist Felix White also discussed how the album is going to sound, and his big hopes for the record, "It's going to be sort of similar to Given To The Wild, but it's also going to be more direct and exciting. I think it's going to be our best record."

Given To The Wild was released in January last year, reaching number four in the UK Albums Chart.

Wild Nothing Announces New EP 'Empty Estate', Unveils Video For "A Dancing Shell"

Jack Tatum's musical project Wild Nothing will release a new a seven-track EP tilted 'Empty Estate' on May 14th.

Recorded at Gary's Electric in Brooklyn by Al Carlson, the EP features new paintings and illustrations from Eric Shaw and the deluxe edition includes red vinyl, illustrated insert, an obi strip, poster, hand numbered envelope, 2x sticker pages, button and slap bracelet.

Speaking of the EP, Tatum has said: "This is a record that happened very fast for me. We had just gotten back from a particularly long European tour last November, our first supporting 'Nocturne', and I was feeling a lot of things. I found myself struggling with what it meant to be a musician, with what music in general meant to me and what part I could possibly play in it. Playing the same songs every night for months left me bored with myself. But when I got home, for the first time in awhile it suddenly seemed that the pressure was off. We didn't have any tours planned for several months and I started to remember again why I love music in the first place. I listened to Brian Eno and David Bowie for weeks on end and felt like I was hearing them for the first time. I took a trip to Miami with my girlfriend. I visited my family. I felt free to try things musically that I would have stifled before. The songs on this EP were recorded over a 10 day period and are a reflection of this time. Of all the frustrations and successes and moments of peace in between."

From the band: "When we first started writing 'Gloaming' it sounded quite dark and mysterious. It reminded me of the atmosphere set in the moors of Wuthering Heights. A big part of the book is set in wild and untamed landscapes and that inspired the meaning behind the song. It became a bit of monologue of enticing someone into the wilderness with you."

Pixies Announce New LP 'Doggerel', Stream "There's A Moon On"

Boston alt rockers Pixies have announced the release of their eighth studio album 'Doggerel'.

The band' seventh full-length and follow-up to 2019's Beneath the Eyrie,  will be out on September 30 via BMG. Pre-order your copy here.

‘Doggerel’ is a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock, haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one. And all the while, right there on the news, another distant storm approaches.  

Guitarist Joey Santiago says, “This time around we have grown. We no longer have under two-minute songs. We have little breaks, more conventional arrangements but still our twists in there.”  

Vocalist/guitarist Black Francis adds,  “We're trying to do things that are very big and bold and orchestrated. The punky stuff, I really like playing it but you just cannot artificially create that shit. There's another way to do this, there's other things we can do with this extra special energy that we're encountering.”  

Arctic Monkeys Announce New LP 'The Car"

British indie rockers Arctic Monkeys have announced the release of their seventh studio album  'The Car'.

The follow-up to 2018 LP Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, was produced by longtime collaborator James Ford and will be out on Ocotober 21 via Domino. Pre-order your copy here.

According to the press release, The Car will showcase “Arctic Monkeys running wild in a new and sumptuous musical landscape” and promises “some of the richest and most rewarding vocal performances of Alex Turner’s career.” 

During a recent set at the Zurich Openair festival in Switzerland, Arctic Monkeys debuted the song “I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am,” which has been described as a “groovy, bass-heavy number” akin to their more previous work.

Detachments Best Album Of 2010

After 12 months of excellent tunes, new bands, exciting releases and long hours of debating, Kool Rock Radio has finally collated their '2010 Albums Of The Year' list and is proud to announce the winner: The self-titled debut album by DETACHMENTS.

To us, Detachments was a big surprise from the very first played. It is an amazing record that transports you to the best part of 80s' decade, with a particular flavour of late 70s' new wave bands (specifically the times of cold wave, minimal wave and new wave) where the music was pure inspiration, creativity and most of all 'emotion'. Their music takes over the work left by The Normal, Gary Numan, Cabaret Voltaire, and other great bans from that time.

Their obscure sound is also at times reminiscent of New Order and Joy Division and it had to be that way because the creative force behind Detachments, Sebastien Marshal comes from Manchester, the drummer Pete Dawson comes from Leeds, once the center of gothic music and Mark Three from London. The creative works of these talented musicians along with the producer James Ford is so powerful (with only one album and a few EPs) that we believe they can receive cult status if they remain productive. 

In summary, this album surfs over  electronic computer riffs, vocal effects, spacey synths, drum beats, screeching guitar and bass lines as those that sounded in the new wave clubs of the 80's, in addition to melancholic pieces of romanticism with a dark background which gives strength to each track.

It is a dance-rock album, with vital touches of bright electro pop, a record for exquisite ears that moves more than your feet, it moves your emotions.

Their single 'I Don't Want To Play' is also listed as the No.1 in KRR's BEST TRACKS OF 2010. 

Plus, Detachments was the BEST NEW BAND for Kool Rock Radio in 2009 and their singles 'Circles' and 'The Flowers That Fell' were both number 1 in our Annual Chart the same year.

Manchester post punk, noir pop four-piece PINS have unveiled the video their latest single "Everyone Says".

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from their just released sophomore album 'Wild Nights', out via Bella Union. Buy your copy here.

About the clip, lead singer Faith Vern said to The New York Times, is about “someone really upset and contemplating whether they wanted to live. By the end of it we wanted it to look like they were reborn and survived.” It features a lot of smoking and staring off into the distances, bubblebaths and a big glass of wine.
