Vision Video Premiere New Single "Cruelty Commodity"

Athens, GA post-punk/goth/new wave band Vision Video have premiered their new single "Cruelty Commodity".

The song is taken from their upcoming sophomore album 'Haunted Hours', which will be out on October 11th. Pre-order your copy here.

From the band: "This song is about the elevation of celebrity status and religious devotion of political figures and how we have institutionalized cruelty thanks to such toxic rhetoric. America is a country I love and have served my entire adult life, but has egregious problems. We have institutionalized cruelty and lack of compassion for our fellow humans. We celebrate around an altar of institutional violence and raise up flagrant idiots to make decisions on our collective behalf."

"This song feels like a death knell to me sometimes. Let it move you to remember to be skeptical of these people and to be unedingly kind to each other."

From the band: ""Death in a Hallway" is a track about the failed response of the government and outright lies that resulted in the unnecessary deaths of thousands. I watched this occur as a paramedic in a failed healthcare system that was unable to bear the overwhelming burden of the strain."

The song is taken from their upcoming sophomore album 'Haunted Hours', which will be out on October 11th (more details TBA). Pre-order your copy here.

From the band: "This is a song about the mindset of the evangelical far right. They are a death cult that are completely removed from their own messianic figure's teachings. They espouse death and destruction and callousness, while most egregiously stealing your rights away, one by one."

It is a sort of memoir of my observations and emotions during the past several years, having experienced quite a lot of death, due to the pandemic and otherwise. It's about mental health failing as the world falls apart, but still finding hope in the cracks. "

The band have also shared the record's lead single "Beautiful Day to Die", and its accompanying music video. Watch/listen below the album's tracklist.

Watch: Vision Video Reveal Music Video For "I Love Cats"

Athens, GA post-punk/goth/new wave band Vision Video have revealed the video for their latest single "I Love Cats".

From the band: "I truly love cats. Whenever I come home from a wicked shift at the fire department, there is something so calming about a cat who watches you come through the front door with a look of resigned ambivalence. The self confidence, the random rambunctious energy, the curiosity... What's not to love?"

"While many people think this is a political song, it is NOT. It is merely a song listing things that cats definitely are not."

The song is out today (Apirl 1), grab it here and watch/listen below.

The song is part of our current playlist and is  taken from their debut album 'Inked in Red', released back in April via Kindercore Records. Grab it here.

From the band: America has historically and continues to fetishize violence, force and warfare on behalf of " the greater good", and this video for Organized Murder is an exploration of that concept. This is a representation of my experiences watching systematic violence used on behalf of morally bankrupt politically ideologies to meet their ends and economic hegemony by military domination across the third world.

About the new single "Static Drone", Gannon adds, "I wrote this song in the middle of some intense manic episodes where my mental health had completely unraveled. There was this peculiar month-long period of time at my fire station when we were dealing with a death almost every shift, and it was mirroring my internal sentiment that I was beginning to feel like everyone was tragically fated to die alone."

New Entry: Vision Video Unveil "Agent Orange" (Ski Patrol Cover)

Athens, GA post-punk/goth/new wave band Vision Video have unveiled their cover version of Ski Patrol's classic "Agent Orange".

Originally released in 1980 by the UK band Ski Patrol, "Agent Orange" has taken on new flesh, as Vision Video projects the song (originally about the Vietnam conflict) into modernity. The song is in outright protest of the current state of America and it's regime, with it's obvious connotations. The song maintains it's original post-punk escalation, but with a new darker veneer. Get it here.

Vocalist and guitarist, Dustin Gannon, describes his band's connection to the song: "Agent Orange was a song that I stumbled across a couple years ago when I was writing the initial material that would eventually become Vision Video. I remember the bass line and atonal guitar dissonance immediately drawing me into this bleak and familiar theme of the horror of warfare, which was something I had been acquainted with myself in Afghanistan a few years prior. The song perfectly captured the visceral gut-punched feeling of foreboding doom that I very much felt when I was involved in that war myself. Once Vision Video had formed, we had talked about trying a couple covers, and this Ski Patrol classic just immediately drew into mind. By this time we were a couple of years into the Trump administration and it dawned upon me that this living nightmare was also paralleled (albeit in a different way) in the current American political landscape. The pointed lyrical allegory of 'Agent Orange' , as the chemical weapon used in Vietnam connected well to the current U.S. President undeniably; a caustic, disease causing agent that has destroyed lives and will continue to do so long after it is gone.

"Recording the track with Tom Ashton (of the March Violets, Clan of Xymox, Danse Society) at his Sub Von Studio was especially a treat for us, because his producer's ear really amplified the thematic elements of anger, despair and hopelessness that the song imparts."
