Low Island Announce New LP 'Life In Miniature', Stream "Can't Forget"

Oxford indie dance quartet Low Island have announced the release of their second studio album ‘Life In Miniature’.

The follow-up to last year's If You Could Have It All Again, features more delicious alt-pop abstraction, and will be out on November 4th via their own label Emotional Interference. Pre-order your copy here.

Moving on from the promise of their debut, ‘Life In Miniature’ aims to overhaul their methodologies, while remaining true to their melodic instincts. Low Island label it a “sonic photo album; a journey through three years of accelerated change that felt like a lifetime…”

Lead single "Can’t Forget" is beholden to a languid groove, blending into a bombastic chorus that takes cues from Tame Impala and Foals. Throughout it is underpinned by the melancholic optimism and idiosyncratic production that has come to define Low Island’s sound, with space for a brash, spiraling guitar solo, rarely unleashed from their arsenal. This clash of old and new techniques echoes the sentimental approach towards recognition of the past whilst gazing forwards.

New Entry: Low Island Drop New Single "Who's Having The Greatest Time?"

Oxford indie dance quartet Low Island have dropped their new single "Who's Having The Greatest Time?".

The song is taken from their highly anticipated debut album ‘If You Could Have It All Again’, set to arrive on April 16th via their own label Emotional Interference. Pre-order your copy here.

From the band: "The song is about the negative, performative nature of Instagram, an environment which is constantly telling you that everyone only wants to see strength and victories, but seeing either these makes us consistently depressed and insecure. It is written from the point of view of someone challenging a friend about how they have both come to use the platform They then toy with the tempting and liberating idea of leaving the whole thing behind for good."

Low Island Announce Debut LP 'If You Could Have It All Again', Stream "Feel Young Again"

Oxford indie dance quartet Low Island have announced the release of their highly anticipated debut album ‘If You Could Have It All Again’.

Recorded, produced and engineered by the band at their makeshift studio in rural France, the album sees the band fully taking the reins over their own destiny, and becoming a DIY machine. It will be released on their own label Emotional Interference on April 16th. Pre-order it here.

Describing the album as the product of "ten years of trying to make things work – in music, but also in life," lead vocalist Carlos Posada recounts "a litany of romantic disasters that have coloured the last ten years of my life". It sees him inhabiting a loose character that looks back at the last decade, and says – in his words – "Have I just really fucked this up? Have I made a royal mess of the last ten years?

This reference to a character teases at the literary and pop-culture touchstones for the record. Wistful protagonists caught in a constant nostalgia, perpetually feeling their best days are behind them - think Watanabe in Norwegian Wood, Malcolm from A Little Life, Emma from People, Places, Things, Holden from Catcher In The Rye.

Whilst the sorrow of a lost twenties is evident in a lot of the album there’s hope among the chaos and the loss too. Playing with light and shade sonically, visually and thematically, Low Island succinctly express how one can’t exist without the other, and learn to embrace the contrast.

Check out the record's tracklist and take a listen to their new single "Feel Young Again", below

If You Could Have It All Again Tracklist:
01. Hey man,
02. What Do You Stand For
04. Don't Let The Light In (Reprise)
06. Who's Having The Greatest Time?
07. Feel Young Again
08. I Do It For You
09. Momentary
10. Spaces Closing In
11. What The Hell (are you gonna do now?)

Watch: Low Island Air Live Video For "In Your Arms"

Oxford indie dance/indie pop quartet Low Island have aired a live video version for their latest single "In Your Arms".

The song is part of our current playlist and came out last month (November 27). Grab it here.

From the band: We shot this video with filmmaker and our long-term collaborator Ben Ogunbiyi, when we were locked down in together in France earlier this year. In Your Arms is almost 3 years old; one of those songs that’s been kicking about for ages in multiple versions - the only thing that remained fairly consistent was the lyrics. We finally finished recording the track in France before the first lockdown. We returned to France just before the second lockdown where we spent the best part of a month rehearsing and filming a load of live videos into the small hours - this was born out of those sessions.

There was a strange sense of groundhog day - the house was incredibly remote so the only interaction we had with the outside world was through the news. Each time we were there, countries the world over were preparing themselves for lockdowns. It felt like we were in a kind of bunker, blindly making music whilst the world was falling apart.

It's nice that now, when we're revisiting these sessions, the world looks to be in a slightly better spot, and positivity seems to be back on the menu. Anyway, thats enough from us for now. Hope you like the video! xx.

Watch: Low Island Reveal "Don't Let The Light In" Music Video

Oxford indie dance quartet Low Island have revealed the video for their latest single "Don't Let The Light In".

The song is part of our current playlist and is the first single from their highly anticipated debut album.Grab it here.

It is a song about memory; trying to preserve a perfect moment in time but ultimately not being able to. "Don't Let The Light In" was close to never being recorded. Finishing the album in a studio in remote France, it was completed on the same day the French government locked the entire country down. A few hours later, the band had packed up their instruments and were travelling back to the UK to begin their own 2 month lockdown. This song is that moment, that memory, captured in time.
