New Entry: The Horrors' Tom Furse Drops New Track "Run To Me Pt. 3"

Tom Furse, member of the eclectic post punk band The Horrors, and synth wizard has dropped his groovy new  track "Run To Me Pt. 3".

The track is taken from his forthcoming new EP 'Run To Me Suite' (one opus divided into five cohesive parts), set to be released on 9th October via Django Django member Dave Maclean's Kick + Clap label. Pre-order it here.

Referencing early techno it has one foot in Cologne and the other in Detroit, with its tightly worked, precise machino-florescence, condensed and upfront, and free of the pomposity that abounds in the genre. A sound enamored with Kraftwerk, Juan Atkins and Yello, it underpins a latent narrative on themes of love, machines and obliteration.

"I had this notion of robots being called to arms by a mother robot, in order to collect suns to build a giant engine powered by 20,000 suns. I know it’s not really apparent in the songs, but visual ideas like that drive me forward when I’m making music, it just seems to make it easier; like putting sound to film." Furse told DIY.

The Horrors Confirm New Album Is Almost Finished

The Horrors have confirmed that they've nearly finished their new album, the follow-up to 2011's 'Skying'.

Speaking to NME, bassist Rhys Webb revealed: "We're right at the end of the recording process and ready to roll. We're recording 11 tracks. It's sounding very exciting."

"I always think there is more in common with out albums than a lot of people say, but we always want to move forward as a band and make something better than what we have done before, and I think we have definitely been successful with that. Faris [Badwan, singer] is sounding fantastic too – I think it's the best he has ever sounded."

About the potential first single from the album, Webb added: "It's a very upbeat song full of electronic oscillations. 'Euphoric' is definitely a good word to describe the way it sounds."

The album is scheduled for release later this year, presumably through XL, the band’s current home.

The Horrors To Release New Album In September

The Horrors have confirmed they will release their new studio album in September.

The upcoming as-yet-untitled new album, will be The Horrors' fourth LP and the follow up to 2011's Skying.

Talking about the recording process, bassist Tom Cowan: "It’s going really well, we’re most of the way there in terms of getting the songs together. And we’ve got a month more or so of writing and then we’re gonna go on tour, we’re aiming to be finished in September. The album’s going to be out in September."

When asked how the new tracks were sounding, Cowan added: "Its different. But I don’t really wanna say anything because people will get the wrong idea. But it is different and it’s possibly our best album yet. But that’s always a matter of opinion, I guess."

Meanwhile, The Horrors have already announced a number of festival appearances for this summer including a headline slot at Truck Festival, plus appearances at Green Man and Manchester's Parklife.

The Horrors To Release 'Higher' Box Set

The Horrors have announced the release of a limited edition box-set, featuring remixes and videos from their 2011 album, 'Skying'.

"Higher" boxset,  contains remixes from Connan Mockasin, Seahawks, Andrew Weatherall, Blanck Mass, Peaking Lights, Cherrystones, Chris Watson, Daniel Avery, JTC and Andy Blake. Asked about his contribution, Andrew Weatherall said: "One of the pleasures of remixing is seeing how other people construct their music. Re-arranging the bricks in The Horrors wall of sound was a particular joy."

"I used Weddell seals singing at the intro recorded under the Antartic sea ice," said Watson. "The rhythms of the Humbolt current around the Galapagos Islands recorded with DPA hydrophones. Singing grey seals recorded out on the Farne Islands, Northumberland and the processed voices of Orca, killer whales, recorded in the sea of Norway."

Speaking of how the boxed set came to fruition, The Horrors' Tom Cowan said; "We were driving through the deserts of California when we hatched the plan to release a boxed set of the singles from Skying, unaware that it would balloon into the monster that it did. We started off small, just one version per single. However, through chance encounters and wanting to involve more people whose music excited us, the box soon grew into an impressive collection of sonic tapestries and hypnotic grooves and it became apparent that this was no longer about the singles. It was now about this new music which had used the different elements of Skying as a springboard to other ideas. We encouraged everyone involved to be as obtuse as possible, to get as far away from the original source material as they could. The results are stunning, and I think it's just a shame we couldn't have done more."

'Higher' is out now digitally, and will get a physical release in March 2013 via XL.

The tracklisting is as follows:

The Horrors Frontman Faris Badwan Launches New Band

The frontman of indie/shoegaze band The Horrors has debuted a new project called Cat's Eyes, which Pitchfork describes as:

"[Badwan's] duo with the Canadian opera soprano and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Zeffira. The group specializes in a glassy, symphonic take on girl-group pop, and they played their first show in December in a pretty unusual place: St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, during an afternoon mass "attended by seven high-ranking cardinals".

The group played their first ever gig at  St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican in December – and the video has just been made available http://www.catseyesmusic.com/.

Faris Badwan likes to keep busy. Currently working with The Horrors on their third album, the singer has also indulged his artistic streak with a series of exhibitions, including a recent solo show in Milan.

Cat's Eyes will release their debut EP, 'Broken Glass' on February 28, followed by a full album on April 11.

The duo have been recording with producer  Steve Osborne in Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios, reports Pitchfork, the pair also recruited award winning director Chris Cunningham for the EP's packaging..

Cat's Eyes will embark on a UK tour in March.

Horrors To Start Working On New Album

The Horrors have spoken about their efforts to build a follow up to 'Primary Colours'. Lambasted in some quarters as being style over content, The Horrors hit back in the best way possible.

Second album 'Primary Colours' was a stunning return, fusing their garage rock template to clicking Motorik rhythms. Blowing apart their black and white image, 'Primary Colours' was a technicolour release which benefited from Portishead musician Geoff Barrow on production duties.

Currently working on their third album, The Horrors have spoken about the recording process. Holed up in their London studio, the black-clad group are putting the finishing touches on their new batch of material.

The Horrors have explained that Geoff Barrow insisted they produce themselves on their third album. "When we were working with Geoff it was kind of his suggestion (to work on their own)" said Rhys Webb. "He was into the way in which we attacked them [the songs]. And towards the end of the process, he said, 'Why don't you guys just go for it yourselves next time?'"

The band confirmed that ten songs had been completed so far. Working in Dalston, they have so far refused to confirm any potential release date. Meanwhile, singer Faris Badwan is set to launch a new club night in London. Held in The Book Club, the night will mix carefully chosen music with visuals including the singer's own art.

The Horrors are due to release new material later this year.
