Vundabar Drop Previously Unreleased Track "Shadow Boxing"
Boston indie rock/surf band Vundabar have dropped a previously unreleased track called "Shadow Boxing".
The song is taken from their upcoming compilation 'Good Old', which will be out on September 16 via amuse.
The band’s Brandon Hagen said in a press release that the newly-released song “is about self-delusion. Looking outward instead of inward and missing the point therein. Written in a time of youthful flail and discomfort.”

Vundabar Reveal New Track/Video "Time"
Boston indie rock/surf band Vundabar have revealed a new track called "Time".
The song is taken from their upcoming compilation 'Good Old', which will be out on September 16 via amuse. The compilation features seven unreleased tracks that were recorded between 2015’s Gawk and 2017’s Smell Smoke and four acoustic reinterpretations of previously released tracks.
The band’s Brandon Hagen said in a press release: “You change quite a bit as a person in ten years time and naturally your music will follow suit. We see releasing these songs that never saw the light in 2016 as a way to celebrate the passage of time and fill the gap the omission of these songs left in our development as a band. From a listener’s perspective this is what will bridge the gap between 2015’s Gawk and 2017’s Smell Smoke.
“Releasing these songs now also acts as a conversation between ourselves from the past and present. In 2016 we were touring constantly, hadn’t really made the band work in any meaningful way and I was desperate to try to get it off the ground while it felt like many of the moorings in my life were dissolving. I think this reflects in the songs as they focus on insecurity, uncertainty about the future and self critique. I hear a kid in their early twenties trying to figure their shit out, which makes sense.”

Vundabar Announce New LP 'Devil For The Fire', Stream Title Track
The follow-up to 2020's Either Light, features 9 tracks including their previous single "Aphasia" and will be out on out on February 11th 2022 via Gawk Records. Pre-order your copy here.
Speaking about the title track, frontman Brandon Hagen said: “The beginnings of this song came about as I was binge watching film noir and burning through books on neuroplasticity. The subconscious and subconscious fear are big things in a lot of film noir, so I had that on my mind—sequences of abstract and surreal images to convey an inner world that has its own dream logic. Shortly after, my dad had a life-threatening emergency heart surgery and subsequent stroke. I finished the song between visits to the hospital, not knowing whether my dad would survive. The entire thing was surreal; the hospitals in the age of COVID, the looming specter of death hanging over us, the bizarre timing of his accident with what I’d been reading and writing.”

Watch: Vundabar Return With New Single/Video "Aphasia"

“The creation of this song was sparked by my dad having a stroke that has resulted in global aphasia,” Vundabar singer and guitarist Brandon Hagen explained in a press release. “That happening, on top of quarantine, produced a crisis within a crisis. The song originated as being about having difficulty describing the world and yourself, and then my pops’ stroke happened and it felt uncanny and fated.”
‘Aphasia’ is accompanied by a video created by Hagen’s sister and her boyfriend. “My sister is a producer/director, her boyfriend is a cinematographer and I make songs so we took all of our sadness, nervous energy and fear of death and channeled it into making something light and fun – something to counterbalance what we were dealing with,” Hagen said. “It feels fitting that the video is about vampires, your classic death creature, having a goofy romp – it reflects what we were trying to do – flip a feeling on its head, and that feels very Vundabar-ish.”
