Watch: Ride Share Music Video For "Repetition"

British shoegaze pioneers Ride have shared the video for their latest single "Repetition".

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from their upcoming sixth studio album 'This Is Not A Safe Place', which will be out on August 16. Pre-order your copy here.

Directed by Luke Logan, it focusses on a washing machine as the swirling layers of sound erupt around it. “Directing for the Ride guys has been absolutely awesome, the track has this mechanical, entropic feel, almost like it’s spiraling out of control and I wanted to match that with the video. Despite having to destroy several washing machines in the process, I think we managed to capture the feeling of the track really well...” he says.

New Entry: Ride Premiere New Single "Repetition"

British shoegaze pioneers Ride have premiered their new single "Repetition".

The song is taken from their upcoming sixth studio album 'This Is Not A Safe Place', which will be out on August 16. Pre-order your copy here.

UPDATE 08/07/2019: "Repetition" is our new Single of the Week!

Of the track, Andy Bell said: "I haven’t got tired yet of blasting this track. 'Repetition' is at the absolute heart of “This Is Not A Safe Place". It was one of the very first songs written for the album, and has always felt to me like one of the best songs I’ve written.

"It has a great dual harmony vocal from myself and Mark. Steve came up with the brilliant Juno 6 bassline that starts the song, which he overdubbed on our last day of recording for the album, Loz puts down a monster of a drum track, it’s both very experimental and very pop in approach and that’s what Ride always tried to do in the early days. For me it succeeds in bringing me back to all of the things we were into and talked about when we were 18, but also being of the moment, in 2019.

"I know I am speaking for the whole band, and Erol, when I say we are really proud of this record, and we hope you enjoy it. "

Watch: Ride Reveal "Catch You Dreaming" Music Video

British shoegaze pioneers Ride have revealed the video for their latest single "Catch You Dreaming".

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from their brand new EP 'Tomorrow's Shore', which is out today (16th February). Buy your copy here.

Said Loz of the video: "“We wanted to call to mind our more humble origins and the first demo recording sessions we did together back in 1988.  Some personal memorabilia from that time also features in the video including photos, sketches, posters, and even the original four-track we recorded our first demo on!”

And from the video's director, Niall Trask: “For me the song evoked feelings of human memory, time and travel. So it seemed natural to capture it visually with collage. We incorporated the wave element so familiar in Ride’s art direction, their foundations in Banbury, the energy of a live show, all bound together with a performance scenario."

Ride Announce New EP 'Tomorrow's Shore', Stream New Song "Catch You Dreaming"

British shoegaze pioneers Ride have announced they will release their new EP titled 'Tomorrow's Shore' on 16th February.

The follow-up to last year's album Pulsarwas recorded with Erol Alkan, the legendary DJ, producer and remixer who produced the band's latest album, Weather Diaries.

Speaking of ‘Catch You Dreaming’, lead guitarist and vocalist Andy Bell says: " “Catch You Dreaming” is written from the perspective of being one of the last two people alive, watching as the Universe is ending. The protagonist looks back over the time when humanity existed, realising that we as humans brought about our own inevitable demise. Then the couple look back over their own lives of shared memories and as they are sharing this moment, everything vaporises. It’s a love song about fate, nostalgia, and having no regrets.

" The song itself was intended to be a part of “Weather Diaries”, and recording started during the sessions in Autumn 2016. But we never managed to record a definitive version at the time and decided to come back to it later as part of a follow up EP, which is now finished, and titled “Tomorrow’s Shore”. The EP was made with an identical process to “Weather Diaries” and we see it as very much tied to the album. "

Pre-order the EP here, check out the tracklist and take a listen to their new single 'Catch You Dreaming' below.

Tracklist:
01. Pulsar
02. Keep It Surreal
03. Cold Water People

New Entry: Ride Premiere New Song "Pulsar"

British shoegaze pioneers Ride have premiered their brand new track "Pulsar".

The song is "built around a central pulsing rhythm and the band's signature wall of swooping, fuzzed out guitars. It was recorded with Erol Alkan, the legendary DJ, producer and remixer who produced the band's latest album 'Weather Diaries'.

Loz had this to say about their brand new song: “Pulsar re-imagines old organ samples, transmissions from space, effects, heavy beats and pulsing chords. The song title tips its head to the 60’s instrumental ’Telstar’ in name and theme; and the idea was to come up with some kind of ‘space anthem’ about light, existence, travel and return. The band all contributed to make the song what it is, and it all really came together in the studio when we worked with Erol Alkan once again, following on from the success of the ‘Weather Diaries’ sessions.”

New Entry: Ride Premiere New Single "All I Want"

British shoegaze pioneers Ride have premiered their catchy new single "All I Want".

The song is taken from their upcoming new album 'Weather Diaries', their first album in 21 years, which will be out on June 16 via Wichita Records. Pre-order your copy here.\

Talking about the track and the album's "political" moments, Andy Bell said: “The day we recorded ‘All I Want,’ Theresa May had announced that her government would be making firms list their foreign workers. As it turned out that never happened because of the outcry about it, but that was the origin of the line comparing the U.K. to 1930’s Germany. It’s not like Ride are ‘going political’ it’s more that the current state of the UK is so terrible that we could not avoid writing about it when we were writing lyrics for the album.”

New Entry: Ride Premiere New Single "Home Is A Feeling"

24 hours after you heard the first new material from Ride  in over twenty years, here's their hypnotic new song "Home Is A Feeling".

The song is taken from their forthcoming new album, due to be released Summer 2017 on Wichita Recordings.

About the track, Mark Gardener says: "‘Home Is A Feeling’ to me is like a slow, wide-screen, sonically, layered, slowed motion warm wash. Like returning home as dawn rises totally exhausted and spangled after a long ..long ...big, great night out’"

Andy Bell says: “Out of all the new songs ‘Home Is A Feeling’ comes closest to the early Ride sound. We felt comfortable going vintage on this tune because the album we are making has a pretty broad sonic scope. It’s a short and sweet, melodic tune, with stacked harmonies, reverbed-out guitars, slowed down drums, and a huge distorted bass sound. Erol put his sage-scented electronic wizards hat on to sample up some of our harmonies and make them into a synthesiser preset, which we ended up using on this and some of the other tunes too. We wanted this song to sound jet lagged, so everything on it was recorded with varispeed, either faster or slower than real time. It’s like 1966 Beatles meets 1988 MBV… in other words, Ride.”

New Entry: Ride Return With "Charm Assault", Their First New Song in 20 Years

British shoegaze pioneers Ride have released their excellent new single "Charm Assault", their first new music in 20 years.

The song is taken from Ride's forthcoming album, produced by Erol Alkan and mixed by the band's longtime collaborator, Alan Moulder, and due to be released Summer 2017 on Wichita Recordings.

UPDATE 27/02: "Charm Assault" is our new Single of the Week!

About the track, Andy Bell says: "Charm Assault is a pretty straightforward expression of frustration and disgust at the people who currently run our country. The tour in 2015 was a good way of reminding us what we were good at in the first place and Charm Assault feels like a natural continuation from our peak. When we started writing together again we tried to imagine we'd kept on making music all this time, and this was just the latest one."

The band's last full-length record was 'Tarantula', released back in March 1996. The band broke up later that year. After a brief reconciliation in 2001 for a live televised performance, Ride officially reunited in 2014.
