ISLAND Announce New LP 'Yesterday Park', Stream "Do You Remember The Times"

London indie rock/alt band ISLAND have announced the release of their second studio album 'Yesterday Park'.

The follow-up to their 2018 debut Feels Like Air, was recorded just before the lockdown hit in spring 2020, with producer Mikko Gordon (Thom Yorke, Arcade Fire), it will on June 25th via Frenchkiss Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Eventually working with producer Mikko Gordon much later that year, the band used their experiences to infuse a new, groove-based approach with an added intensity. Yesterday Park is an album about nostalgia, that feeling of looking back, not to one specific time or place but rather the feeling associated with the hazy blur of childhood and teenage memories.

The songs cover a lot of different themes, but at their heart they all stem from formative memories. Introducing new textures, instrumentation and recording techniques allowed the band to better create that reflective feeling they were aiming for. They drew a lot of influence from the 90s, and particularly beat-driven 90s hip-hop which inspired a lot of the grooves in the album.

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to their new single "Do You Remember The Times", below.

Watch: ISLAND Return With New Single/Video "Octopus"

London indie rock/alt band ISLAND have returned with their new single "Octopus" and its accompanied video.

The song is out today (February 9). Get it here.

Speaking about it the band said: “‘Octopus’ describes the feeling of looking back on rebellious teenage years from a time where an impulse to cause trouble has been replaced with new sentiments. It’s about the conflict felt as a musician between wanting to grow older and wiser and wanting to stay young, and it asks if we as a world are only interested in stories, and whether normality is something to be desired. A world in which you might be persuaded to change yourself to fit in, like an octopus changes colour to adapt to its surroundings. The song ends by flirting with the idea of reverting back to old ways, and getting back to making trouble.”

New Entry: ISLAND Premiere New Single "All In My Head"

London indie rock/alt band ISLAND have premiered their brand new single "All In My Head".

The song is taken from their forthcoming new EP set to arrive this spring through Beatnik/Frenchkiss.

Speaking about the track, frontman Rollo Doherty says: “It’s weird, we didn’t really understand the song when we started writing it but we liked that about it, we didn’t try to understand it. The lyrics just take that idea and put it through a blender. Weirdness just mixed up with more weirdness. Just like what’s in my head.”.
