New Entry: Chromatics Premiere New Single "TOY"

Portland indie pop/electronic/synth band Chromatics have premiered their new single ''TOY".

The song, produced and mixed by Johnny Jewel is out today (Jan 24) via Italians Do It Better.

In a statement, frontwoman Ruth Radelet said: "It's a song about trying to forget someone you're still in love with even though they treat you like an object."

TOY Announce 'Songs Of Consumption' Collection, Share "Fun City"

London-based indie rock/psychedelic band TOY have announced 'Songs Of Consumption', an 8-song collection of unique interpretations of tracks which have inspired the band.

Talking about it, TOY said: "Songs of Consumption sonically is a continuation and development of the themes conceived on Happy In The Hollow and it will show people where we are going towards musically. The DIY approach was explored further utilising more of the electronic elements that we touched upon before. Drum machines, stripped down arrangements and rudimentary production give a primitive sound that we thought suited the choice of songs. Some of the songs have very big sounding production, so we wanted to experiment with them by going in a different direction.

Music is consumed voraciously now whereas these songs came from a time when the song was of the most important thing and that's what was appreciated. Stripping them back to the essence of what they are was also something we wanted to explore. Also, we wanted to make a covers record with songs by people that influenced us in the past few years and it’s as much about the way they dealt with their ideas, and how they put themselves in uncomfortable situations in order to make something that in the end is simple. It’s a homage to the spirit of these people, that helped us to untangle ourselves from our inherent complicated nature and create a new space where we can exist."

TOY Announce New LP 'Happy In The Hollow', Air "Sequence One" New Video

London-based indie rock/psychedelic band TOY have announced the release of their fourth studio album titled 'Happy In The Hollow'.

The follow-up to 2016's Clear Shot, was entirely produced and mixed by the band, and recorded between their own home tape studios and mixed at Dan Carey’s Studio B in South London. It will be out on January 25th via Tough Love Records. Pre-order your copy here.

According to the press release, Happy In The Hollow is entirely uncompromising: an atmospheric capturing of a state of mind that touches on post-punk, electronic dissonance, acid folk and Krautrock. Familiar qualities like metronomic rhythms, warping guitars, undulating synths and Tom’s gentle, reedy vocals are all in there, but so is a greater emphasis on melody, a wider scope, and a combining of the reassuring and the sinister that is as unnerving as it is captivating.' The sound has without doubt expanded — and grown more confident — in part because this is the first album for which TOY has become a self-sufficient five-person unit doing everything for themselves.

 “Each song was a blank canvas,” says Maxim. “Producers inevitably develop their own patterns over time, right down to certain drum sounds. We were starting from scratch and it felt very creative as a result. It’s an album we feel deeply connected to”..

New Entry: TOY Return With Two New Songs "The Willo" and "Energy"

London-based indie rock/psychedelic band TOY have returned with two new songs "The Willo" and "Energy".

The 12" single will be out tomorrow (September 24th) via Tough Love Records, and is a foretaste of a forthcoming album in January 2019. Buy your copy here.

"The Willo" is a dreamlike, seven-minute glide, redolent of a forest at sunset and just as pretty, but not without hints of malevolence. Maxim's fingerpicking acoustic melds with electric twang from Dominic, and a whirling organ from Max Oscarnold gives this elegant creation an extra layer of disorientation and depth. “People appear to have seen Will-o’-the-wisp, a mysterious green-blue light, over the centuries. It generally means something ominous is about to happen", says Tom Dougall.

Then there is "Energy", which lives up to its name with thunderously metronomic drums from Charlie Salvidge and a ferocious guitar from Dominic O’Dair. The lyrics, culled from a story written by Max about a nighttime ritual, are obscured by the barrage-like forward momentum of the music.

"When I got the offer of a new TOY song to remix I immediately chose the track "I'm Still Believing". It's a great pop song and I really love the vocals. I wanted to keep the feel and flow of the song, the catchy melody and synth hook, but I also wanted to change the density and texture of the track; extend it beyond its three minute length and take it to some unknown places. TOY Announce New Album 'Clear Shot', Stream New Single "Fast Silver"

London-based indie rock/psychedelic rock band TOY have announced details of their third studio album titled 'Clear Shot.' 

The follow-up to 2013's 'Join The Dots,' will be released on October 28th via Heavenly Recordings, it "sounds like a Beefheart corruption but this magnificent third LP represents the band’s fullest interrogation yet of more local, rain drenched and mushroom speckled Anglo-mystic roots… through Radiophonic Workshop, Comus and Fairport, COUM and Acid House all the way back to the druids, dragging stones and chanting under the astronomical symphony of early Time."

The band are also streaming the record's first taste "Fast Silver",  a shoogle-y darked-out affair, it's reminiscent of the best night driving music, that bends between cavernous minor and warmly radiating major sections. There’s an instrumental bridge that sounds like Amon Tobin and a middle 8 that sounds like The Stranglers’ Dionne Warwick cover. It’s utterly brilliant and truly weird. Sibling tracks on the record include ‘Jungle Games’ and ‘Spirits Don’t Lie.’ Peculiar, idiosyncratic creatures, they share something with the end-of-the-sixties, year zero feel of the Beach Boys’ Surf's Up; somewhat broken and disillusioned, long shot of the urge to please.

London-based psychedelic band TOY have premiered a new video for "As We Turn", off  their sophomore album 'Join The Dots', released in December 2013.

The song is part of our current playlist and will be released as a limited edition 12" single with the additional tracks 'Conductor (Tom Furse Extrapolation remix)' and a new version of the album track 'You Won't Be The Same', which was recorded for a Part Time Punks radio session on the band's last visit to LA. The download release also comes with the bonus of a Plank remix of 'It's Been So Long'.

London-based psychedelic band TOY have released the video for "It's Been So Long". 

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from their sophomore album 'Join The Dots', released on December 9 through Heavenly Recordings.

The clip was directed by Jesus and Mary Chain founding member Douglas Hart,who says: “The video features calibration charts used for everything from testing focus on microscopes and optical movie projectors to the calibration of cathode rays and the accuracy of the US Army Air force’s bomb and gun sights. The video also includes colour reference charts which instruct technicians as to the true nature of black, white and the three primary colours which combine and overlap within optical devices to create every imaginable colour and shade. Often these charts include strange symbols mapped out in mysterious lines, spirals, and solid shapes, some of which look like they belong on the pages of a New Orleans Voodoo curse, or on an Op Art canvas."

TOY Announce New Album, Stream New Single "Join The Dots"

London-based indie rock/psychedelic rock band TOY have announced that they will released their second album titled 'Join The Dots' on December 9th through Heavenly Recordings.

The follow-up to 2012's self-titled debut, was recorded once again with south London super-producer and Speedy Wunderground label owner Dan Carey. The release will be proceeded by a series of shows in London and Manchester, before the band headline London's Shepherds Bush Empire in the New Year. You can pre-order your copy of 'Join The Dots' here.

The band have also shared the album's title track, which will be released  on October 21st on a limited edition vinyl and includes a screen-printed sleeve by David Chatton Baker and an instrumental version of the track.
