Boy Harsher Release "Burn It Down - Rework"

Northampton based dark/electronic/drone duo Boy Harsher (aka Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller) have released "Burn It Down - Rework".

The song is part of 'Burn It Down (From The Motion Picture 'Halloween Ends')', set to arrive on October 22 via Sacred Bones Records. Pre-order it here.

The duo have contributed a sumptuously eerie track for the David Gordon Green directed finale to the iconic Halloween franchise. Sacred Bones and Nude Club (Boy Harsher’s imprint) are joining forces and releasing a proper 12” maxi single containing four versions of the track “Burn it Down,” to be released in tandem with the original score provided by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies.

Boy Harsher said of the experience: “During an extremely brief period of rest between tours, we got this call from the music supervisor of Halloween Ends. The director, David Gordon Green, had listened to our music and wanted to use something for the final installment in the trilogy -Halloween Ends. We flew to New York the next day to meet the team and discuss the possibilities. It was totally surreal. Obviously we’re huge fans of Carpenter and the franchise is a fav, but to work with Gordon Green was also so special, his early films (George Washington,Undertow, Snow Angels) were heavy influences on our work. The real kicker is that Halloween Ends was shot in Savannah, GA - the birthplace of Boy Harsher and where we met. Unbelievable. It all felt too synchronous, and we knew we had to make something work although we were about to leave for a multi-month tour that week. We flew home to Massachusetts, dug through old demos, and found “Burn It Down”. In the end it was the perfect energy for the bittersweet love affair between Allyson and Corey, so during a couple days off - we cleaned it up and made it come alive.”

The album balances cinematic instrumentals with pop songs that push the boundaries of Boy Harsher’s sound.

The Runner follows a strange woman as she travels to a secluded, rural town where her violent compulsions are slowly revealed. The story intertwines with band Boy Harsher performing on a public access channel. Their music scores the strange woman's descent deeper into the unknown.

“Give Me a Reason” is a smoky bar room at the end of the night. It’s leaning against red tail lights in hot, dry wind. Side-eyes and you take a sip. It’s when you open your mouth, but say nothing. We wrote this song in the middle of the pandemic, during isolation. It felt good to remember / fantasize about late night possibilities. Now “we’re back” but truthfully it feels like life will never be the same. So use this number to feel good again and show us how you dance to it x

From Liz: “This song was written during the first quarter of the quarantine. Every day I thought about death- death caused by the virus, death caused by white supremacy, racism, violence, death by transphobia, homophobia, inequality, and all of it put me in a dark place where I was desperate for some sort of hope. Mike’s dad had just passed away during all of this and it’s devastating to think about all the people losing loved ones who aren’t able to be there during those final moments due to covid-19. When I was writing this, I was trying to make sense of it all, but I still can’t. I used to take solace in the love I had for my city but all of a sudden, I didn’t feel safe because of people’s disregard for spreading this virus.So, to cope I reflected a lot on the people I love and tried to strengthen those connections....it's all I could manage to do to deal with so much hate but honestly at the end of the day that isn’t enough” .

Berlin-based dark electronic duo Pierce with Arrow (aka Troy Pierce & Poison Arrow) have dropped the video for their new single "In the Depths of His Eyes".

The collaborative debut of American minimal techno producer Troy Pierce and Colombian audiovisual artist Natalia Escobar aka Poison Arrow was conceived in reverse: first they created a collection of shadowy surrealist videos, then wrote music inspired by them. This inverted process proved remarkably fruitful. Shatter is a simmering, slow-burn noir odyssey inspired by the Greek myth of Echo and Narcissus, traversing subtle shades of sleepwalker dub, metallic lament, broken beats, and erotic negative space. It's an effectively unsettling evocation of the legend's core theme: “There is nothing more complex than a shattered heart, or a heart that can't love.”

“In the Depths Of His Eyes proposes a reconfigured narcissism; a reimagining of Narcissus’ gaze into the pool, beyond self-absorption and vanity, to a moment of intrigue on the edge of introspection. Diving into the depths of the never-ending fall through states of transformation and re-creation.”

‘I Walk Alone At Night’ continues Elizabeth’s essential message from previous single "Breathe", but from the perspective of fear and the heightened sense of danger abusive experiences create. She wrote it just after she’d moved into her own apartment and began volunteering on the rape crisis helpline at the East Los Angeles Women’s Center. “When I first heard this song, I closed my eyes for a moment and thought about all the times I was scared, all the ridiculous things I do because of fear, and how wonderful it must feel to live without even the slightest bit of fear,” says Elizabeth - whose powerful spoken word vocal is delivered over both a chugging, 3am electroid groove and a stripped-back 6am acid house workout. “I wouldn’t have been able to write this type of thing if not for the influence and strength of feminist icons Kathleen Hanna and Kim Gordon. They, and so many others got me through high school and continue to get me through today. What I really want to know is how this song makes people feel.” .

Inspired by Wim Wender's cult film "The Sky over Berlin", the black-and-white clip follows an inconspicuous guardian angel (Cameron Findlay, Kontravoid) through the streets of Berlin. He hopes his presence will have a positive effect on the characters of the capital. Especially a young woman (Sally Dige, also great electro-musician).

The video was directed by Kathleen Dycaico, who explains: "The story follows Hunter + Angel, two country camgirls in love and longing. They constantly film and watch their live-streamed love, surviving on cherries and beer, until signs that 'Time's Up' appear in the world around them. Hunter + Angel eventually take their memories out back and use them for target practice, and destroy the images of their love."
