Low Hummer Return With New Single "Panic Calls"

Hull post punk/alt band Low Hummer have returned with their new single "Panic Calls".

The song, produced by Matt Peel (W.H. Lung, Eagulls), is out now via Dance To The Radio and is their first new material since their 2021 debut LP 'Modern Tricks For Living'. Buy here.

The band's statement reads: “There was a sort of conversation floating in the air that inspired the lyrics of Panic Calls. Dan and I wrote as though we were trying to ring crisis lines; the discourse of the song shifts between us trying to explain our feelings, then always being met with generic, automated responses. The intention was to sort of mirror the futility of mental health support, and, hopefully, show how relatable that issue is.”

Low Hummer Announce Debut LP 'Modern Tricks For Living', Stream "The People, This Place"

Hull post punk/alt band Low Hummer have announced the release of their highly-anticipated debut album 'Modern Tricks For Living'.

The 10-track album was recorded with producer Matt Peel at The Nave studio and will be out on September 17th via Dance To The Radio, featuring their excellent new single "The People, This Place". Pre-order your copy here.

Low Hummer write about their life in deepest darkest East Yorkshire and their place in a world of consumerism and bad news stories sold as gospel. Daniel, Aimee, Steph, Jack, John and Joe came together from the far corners of the city’s tight knit DIY community, established a regular rehearsal home in iconic DIY venue The New Adelphi Club and set about honing their righteous, danceable garage rock before announcing themselves in late 2019 and introducing the world to Low Hummer - this band of misfits from a town left behind.

Fropm the band : "Written and recorded over what has been possibly the strangest year of our lives, we’ve realised more and more how grateful we are for the opportunity to record a bloody album with our best mates. We just hope it’s better than our Banana Bread."

"Our album of isolation during such overwhelming times. The record captures how us bunch of misfits have felt isolated from popular culture, isolated from love, and how we all have been getting through physical isolation! ‘Modern Tricks for Living’ does not provide any kind of wisdom for navigating through modern society, but maybe just shows how a bunch of strangers from Hull get by. ‘The People This Place’ was the final piece we needed to make ‘Modern Tricks For Living’ complete so it feels like the person song to launch the album with."

"'Don’t You Ever Sleep' is a song about late night loneliness and anxiety leading to purchasing items online as a form of therapy,” singer Daniel Mawer explains. "Sonically it’s us exploring eclectic drumkits and synths, before jumping into a distorted chorus which comes most natural to us. We feel the song is a blueprint of what Low Hummer should sound like. The chorus of ‘we are bored’ is the apathy and frustration I think a lot of our friends and family feel regarding their lives."
