Stone Roses Lemon Logos Appear In Manchestet Streets And Record Shops

The Stone Roses iconic lemon logos have appeared in Manchester record shops and streets today, fans are speculating that the band could release a new single this week.

Last weekend, a fan named Lewis Jones, managed to grab Mani for a quick snap and quizzed him about new music, and Mani told him that a single would be out "next week" (May 9-13), and to "stay tuned to the radio", which generated internet rumours about things they may - or may not - be doing.

It is more than 20 years since the Stone Roses released their last studio album, Second Coming, in 1994, the follow-up to their eponymous 1989 debut.

The Charlatans Drummer Jon Brookes Dies Aged 44

The Charlatans drummer and founding member, Jon Brookes has died this morning at the age of 44 after a battle with brain cancer.

Brookes was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2010 after collapsing onstage during a concert in Philadelphia. He had continued working on new material with the band despite undergoing several surgeries, including one in July. Though the band said the most recent operation had gone well, Brookes had remained in the hospital for further treatment. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

The Charlatans formed in 1989 in the West Midlands region of England. Brookes was a founding member of the band, whose 2010 LP Who We Touch is the most recent of their 11 studio albums. The group has had 22 Top 40 hits in Britain, including "The Only One I Know" and "One to Another."

Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess tweeted that the band was "torn apart" at the news: "Jon Brookes, my friend, our drummer and inspiration to so many, passed away this morning. We are torn apart. Love & thoughts to Jon's family."

He also thanked "everyone for their messages and memories of Jon. So much love on such a sad day".

A further statement from the band read: "Jon was a brilliant drummer, an inspiration, a founding member of The Charlatans, part of our family and a friend to everyone in and around the band. Losing someone who was always so full of life is a tragedy that will be shared by so many. Our thoughts are with Debbie and all of Jon's family."

RIP Jon Brookes.

New Order's Bernard Sumner To Publish Autobiography Next Year

Bernard Sumner will release his autobiography in 2014 telling stories of Joy Division and New Order.

According to The Bookseller, Sumner has signed a deal with Transworld to publish the as-yet-untitled book, which promises to "explore Sumner's formation of Joy Division alongside Ian Curtis, his relationship with bandmate Peter Hook, and the inspiration for ‘Blue Monday,’ the biggest selling 12-inch single of all time."

Sumner told the publication:

"Joy Division and New Order have both left quite a legacy but up until now I've been happy to let the music speak for itself. Somehow it feels like the right time to give my personal perspective both on my own life story and the many bands I've been in."

In related news, ex-bandmate Peter Hook's book Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division was published last year and he's planning a follow-up on New Order.

Album of the Week June 10/13: Jagwar Ma 'Howlin'

Our new Album of the Week is Sydney-based duo Jagwar Ma brilliant debut album 'Howlin', out today (June 10) via Marathon Artists.

Comprised by Jono Ma and Gabriel Winterfield,  the duo first met in Australia and embarked on a musical journey having discovered their similar passions within the industry. They combine rock 'n' roll signifiers (electric guitars, psychedelic vocals) with pristine dance-music production.

When we first heard their killer debut single "The Throw", we knew something good was coming...

Recorded in a secluded town in the north of France, with just an 808, a Fender jaguar, a laptop and a pair of vintage Neve console channels, Jagwar Ma's debut album, has a really infectiously hypnotic sound influenced by everything from the sort of psychedelia to 90s rave culture, baggy sounds, the 'Madchester' scene, and impressively focused dance-pop.

From start to finish, and just as we expected, it is a great debut for this Australian duo with trippy effects and psychedelic sounds that will stick in your mind.

Tracklist:

01. What Love
02. Uncertainty
03. The Throw
04. That Loneliness
05. Come Save Me
06. Four
07. Let Her Go
08. Man I Need
09. Exercise
10. Did You Have To
11. Backwards Berlin

Tickets For Stone Roses Movie Premiere Sell Out In Less Than a Minute

Tickets for Shane Meadows' upcoming Made Of Stone: Stone Roses documentary film premiere, which will take place at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, went on sale yesterday (18 April) and have sold out in less than one minute.

The tickets are also sold out for the UK cinemas who are taking part in the nationwide broadcast, which has led to Picturehouse putting on additional screens.

Speaking about the news Meadows says: "I'd love to think the tickets selling out so quick was down to the fan base I've built up over the last 15-20 years, but I know it's them lot that everyone's really coming to see. Bald Chunkers like me don't sell out stadiums, but if we've got a Guinness World Record I would deffo take the credit."

In a recent interview about the film, the director said: "It's not very often one of your heroes asks you to make a documentary about your all time favourite band, that are getting back together after twenty years." He was not only given unprecedented access to the band for almost a year, but he also followed fans of the Stone Roses around the world, to understand the influence that the band's music has on them.

The film will debut for the first time on Thursday 30 May and have a general release on 5 June. You can watch the trailer here.
