New Entry: Risk Risk Drops New Single "I Hunt For Static"

German minimal synth-pop musician Risk Risk (aka our good friend Stefan K), has dropped his infectious single "I Hunt For Static".

"I Hunt For Static", along with "Heartbeat" (2013), are the latest releases Risk Risk has made. Stefan is currently working on more songs, which we hope to see released soon. We'll keep you posted.

Dog Bite Announce New Album 'Tranquilizers', Stream "Dream Feast"

Atlanta four-piece Dog Bite (former Washed Out keyboardist Phil Jones project) have announced they will release their sophomore album titled 'Tranquilizers' on January 21 via Carpark Records.

According to a press release, this new LP  "transcends the reverie state of Velvet Changes in pursuit of a darker, more full-bodied experience, and migrates into a dreamy sonic realm enveloped in its own soulful influence."

"Frontman Phil Jones found his extensive listening to iconic R&B musicians such as Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes to be the original muse for the album. In its formation it began as a soul record; however, at its core the release remains grounded in Dog Bite beloved shoegaze landscapes."

Metronomy Announce New Album 'Love Letters', Share Track "I'm Aquarius"

British indie dance band Metronomy have announced they will released their fourth studio album titled 'Love Letters' on March 10 through Because Music.

The band have also shared the album's lead single "I'm Aquarius", scroll down to listen. The track is available now via the Night Sky app (here for iOS, here for Android).

According to a press release, the app "provides a beautiful, magical way of identifying the stars, planets, galaxies, constellations and even satellites in an awe-inspiring visual way."

So, in order to hear the song, you have to go outside, look at the stars, and find the Aquarius constellation.

Ducktails Announces New EP, Unveils New Single "Honey Tiger Eyes"

Ducktails, the solo project of The Real Estate's Matt Mondanile, has announced he will release a brand new EP titled 'Wish Hotel' on October 22 via Domino.

The follow up to this years acclaimed album 'TheFlower Lane', consists of five songs recorded by Mondanile at his home in Ridgewood, New Jersey. The songs display a theme of travel, love, and longings.

Single of the Week August 26/2013: Risk Risk "Heartbeat"

This week's Single of the Week on koolrockradio.com is "Heartbeat", another great cut by German minimal synth-pop project Risk Risk (aka our good friend Stefan K.).

Heartbeat is actually a lost track that was NOT on Risk Risk great debut album 'This is 1983', but it was intended to, and just as all the tracks from that album,  it's a brilliant 80s synth oriented tune.

Risk Risk's new album is almost finished, and Stefan is currently looking for a new label to release it. We'll keep you posted as more details on the record surface.

Listen: Empire of The Sun Unveil New Song "DNA"

Australian electronic duo Empire of the Sun have unveiled the audio for "DNA", another cut taken from their upcoming new album 'Ice On The Dune', out on June 21. 

'Ice of the Dune' serves as the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed debut album Walking On A Dream, which was released back in 2008.

It is the second taste of  the album, previously we already got the first single Alive.

Hot Chip Unveil New Single "Dark & Stormy"

Hot Chip have unveiled a new single called "Dark & Stormy", which will be available on July 22 via Domino Records, digitally and on 10" vinyl, backed by a new version of "Look At Where We Are" as its B-Side.

Dark & Stormy is the first new Hot Chip recording since their 2012 album, In Our Heads. The track was recorded at Club Ralph in London and features Charles Hayward from This Heat / About Group on drums.

Crocodiles Announce New Album 'Crimes Of Passion', Unveil New Track

San Diego indie rockers Crocodiles have announced that they will release their fourth studio album titled 'Crimes Of Passion' on August 19.

The album will be out in the US through Frenchkiss Records and in UK/EU/ROW via Zoo Music. 

For the follow-up to their 2012's album 'Endless Flowers', Crocodiles have recruited the Raveonettes member  Sune Rose Wagner, to serve as producer.

Wagner previously worked with the wife of Crocodiles frontman Brandon Welchez, Dee Dee of the Dum Dum Girls.

The band have also debuted a new song called "Cockroach", the first taste from their upcoming new effort. The song has been added to our current playlist www.koolrockradio.com.

Day 9 - "Diaries of a Madman"

What they said about the song:

"'Madman' was the first song to be made for the album and was written with Dave Formula who was in Visage from 1978 to 1983. The lyrics are a tongue and cheek repost to Steve’s detractors. In album full of programmed beats and precisely placed instruments this song stands alone with a punkier and live sound. Screaming guitars, at-you vocals and pounding bass guitar are the perfect foil for the sex-dwarf style stabby synth."

About the song, the band say:

"In 'I am Watching' Steve adopts the persona of an obsessive stalker. Not natural territory we are assured. It is usually Steve who is the one who is being stalked. 'I do this all for you now' pleads the character as he tries to help the victim get through 'their' problem. The song hangs upon Robins slicing guitar and structure, while the bassline and beats provide the main dance-floor inspired moments on the album."

"'Lost In Static' slows the tempo of the album down once more with washes of analog keyboard pads, Bowie style elongated guitar lines and a ponderous haunting synth bass line. As with all other tracks on the album new vocalist Lauren Duvall is on fine form here. Many former Visage tracks feature female vocals and with “Lost In Static” Lauren adds new dimnestions and layers to the sound. The Lyrics of 'Lost In Static' talk of a time away in isolation only to return once more to the frey."

Single of the Week May 13/13 - Tesla Boy "M.C.H.T.E."

Our new single of the week is "M.C.H.T.E." by Russian new wave/synth-pop trio Tesla Boy. 

"M.C.H.T.E." is the second single taken from their forthcoming album 'The Universe Made of Darkness', which will be out on May 21.

Tesla Boy is a product of the next generation Russian Youth growing up in '80s and '90s Moscow, influenced by formerly inaccessible Western music against a backdrop of dramatic changes taking place in Russia when the Cold War came to a close and the Soviet Union was no more. A new acceptance of music, fashions and culture from all round the world embraced Western pop culture that had an overwhelming impact on the young musicians who hungrily sought out as much pop and synth music from abroad as they could.

Day 6 - "Dreamer I Know"

"'Dreamer I Know' is the most immediately accessible song on the album and features a catchy adult-pop chorus which imprints rapidly. Mick Macneil (the former creative musical core of Simple Minds) adds the lead keyboard lines which although played on an old Korg analog monosynth somehow manage to evoke his Scottish homeland."

Visage have shared a new preview of their upcoming full length 'Hearts and Knives', out on May 20th. This time, it is the fifth track on the album.

"Visage produced their first tracks at Martin Rushents Genetic studio and Martin had started working with the band in 2010 before his timely untimely death. The production and album track placement position of  'On We Go' is influenced by 'I Am The Law' from Human Leagues 'Dare'."

"The slow, thoughtful, synthesizer sound-scape is the calming tonic that breaks the pace of the first four songs on the album. The lyrics talk of character-changing, momentous events that shape the characters we are and who we evolve into."
