New Entry: The Drums Release New Single "626 Bedford Avenue"

The Drums have released their new single "626 Bedford Avenue".

The song is taken from their upcoming new album 'Brutalism', which will be out on April 5th via Anti-Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking a bout the song Pierce said: I’m a big believer in making yourself vulnerable in personal relationships, and keeping your guard down. This song talks about how I sometimes make myself fully emotionally available to people who can’t reciprocate because of their own insecurities, and the frustration that ensues … This song is my tongue-in-cheek exploration of those ideas — being kind, not taking shit from anyone, and learning to hold people accountable for their own choices, while still holding some empathy for them...

The Drums Announce New LP 'Brutalism', Stream "Body Chemistry"

The Drums have announced the release of their new album titled 'Brutalism'.

The follow-up to 2017’s Abysmal Thoughts', will be out on April 5th via Anti-Records, and according to the press release, is defined by growth, transformation and questions, but It doesn't provide all the answers. Brutalism is a form of simplistic architecture defined by blocks of raw concrete. Pre-order your copy here.

The record is rooted in an emotional rawness but its layers are soft, intricate and warm, full of frivolous and exquisitely crafted pop songs that blast sunlight and high energy in the face of anxiety, solitude and crippling self-doubt.

'Brutalism' is about a love so intense you feel destroyed by it, it is defined by vulnerability. It is truly pop at its core with thoroughly modern production. “I love pop but I feel that there's a sensitivity that's missing,” Pierce says of the landscape. He wants to sacrifice ego in favor of tenderness. “I wanted to make a pop record where I'm not declaring how great I am,” he laughs. “I'm questioning if I could ever be great? I'm a grown man saying: ' I feel more crazy than ever. I feel lost. I'm terrified of the future.'”” .

The band have also shared the album's first single "Body Chemistry", take a listen below the record's tracklist.

Tracklist:
01. Pretty Cloud
02. Body Chemistry
03. 626 Bedford Avenue
04. Brutalism
05. Loner
06. I Wanna Go Back

The Drums' Johnny Aries Announces Debut Solo Album 'Unbloomed'

The Drums' guitarist Johnny Aries has announced he will release his debut solo album titled 'Unbloomed' on August 26 via French Kiss.

Aries moved from his native England to New York last year, and the album was recorded in Brooklyn, "it’s something a parting shot towards England and my old life," Aries says. "Some of the songs are me lamenting things I’ve done, but some are also about letting go and looking toward greener pastures."

"All of these songs were written as soon as I got to New York. I felt like I had a fresh start and I should make something unhinged from anything people expected from me. It was a clean page for me to start something exciting." He explains.

"I wanted to make a record, and it felt like the best chance to do that would be when I came to America. I wanted to take the upheaval of my old band breaking up and moving here, and all the changes that came with that, and push them into this.”

Unbloomed isn't all about feeling blue, though. "I’m just looking for happiness, really; I’m trying to make sense of everything going on around me. The best thing to come out of that is the lyrical quality of the songs—it’s romantic, I suppose."

'Unbloomed' tracklist:

01. Unbloomed
02. This Grave Is My Bed Tonight
03. Bodybag
04. We’re Just Girls And Boys
05. To Be Desired
06. Human Nature
07. I’m A Dreamer
08. Ambulette Tape
09. You Belong To Me
10. Great Expectations

Aries has also shared the first taste of this solo effort "This Grave Is My Bed Tonight", a melancholic-pop song that has been added to our current playlist.

In related news, Aries' first record with The Drums 'Encyclopedia' will be released in September.

The Drums Share "Magic Mountain", First New Track In 3 Years

Last Week, Brooklyn NY indie poppers The Drums announced the release of their new single "Magic Mountain" for September, now the band are streaming the track.

Speaking about the song, vocalist Jonny Pierce says:

"Not since the Summertime EP has it been just Jacob and I left up to our own devices. Now that we’re back to just the two founding members, we figured we could do whatever we wanted and run with it. Together, we had just one goal: let go of any preconceived ideas that anyone has about The Drums and make songs to be as grand and majestic as we want them to be. "Magic Mountain" is a sparkling reflection of our last three years. It's about shedding off what binds you and protecting whats good, finding a safe place away from everyone and everything that wants to destroy you." (via Noisey).

Have a listen to the infectious track below, it has been added to our current playlist.

The Drums' Jonny Pierce Announces Solo Album, Streams New Track

The Drums frontman Jonny Pierce has announced that he will release his solo album debut, written, recorded and produced by himself, early next year.

"Some might say it's strange for a man to bare his soul the way I do on this album but I wanted to do something that exposed me for who I am even more so than anything I have done with The Drums ... I wanted to be as self-indulgent as possible with this album. This is pop done the way I think it should be done." Says Pierce about the album.

He has also released the video for his new song "I Didn't Realise", watch it below.

The Drums Working On New Album

The Drums have confirmed they are currently working on a new album, and hope to have the record released this year.

The band’s frontman Jonathan Pierce explained in an interview how the recording process is closely linked to the formula which produced their successful debut.

“This year we’ll put something out. We’re writing and recording every day in New York. Currently recording in our kitchen so it’s a very home spun effort again,’ he said. “Right now its just guitar based, drums, vocals and I’ve bought this really old modular analogue synthesiser from Tokyo that we’re sort of implementing.”

The Drums were treated to a big build up towards the end of 2009 and into early 2010, featuring prominently on the BBC‘s annual Sound Of rundown, while KOOL ROCK RADIO included them in the top 10 of the Best New Bands of 2009.

The follow-up to their successful 2010 self-titled debut will be released later this year.
