Watch: Massage Drop New Single/Video “In Gray & Blue”

Los Angeles indie pop/jangle pop band Massage (ex-The Pains of Being Pure At Heart) have dropped the video for their new single "In Gray & Blue".

The song is taken from their upcoming six-track EP 'Still Life', which will be available on December 10 via Mt.St.Mtn. Pre-order your copy here.

“The songs on Still Life and Lane Lines seem to straddle the line between indie and pop without exactly being ‘indie pop,’” vocalist/guitarist Andrew Romano says. “To me they feel more like descendants of ‘college rock’ — a moment that lasted from about 1986 to 1991, right before the underground and the mainstream converged, when it seemed like any scrappy indie band might stumble across a hit.”

Watch: Always You Drop New Single/Video "Black City Nights"

LA-based indie pop project Always You (formerly known as Ablebody) have released the video for their new single "Black City Nights".

The song is taken from their forthcoming sophomore album 'Bloom Off The Rose', which will be available on July 16 through Shelflife Records/Discos de Kirlian. Pre-order your copy here.

Always You is made up of brothers Anton and Christoph Hochheim,  who are best known for their time as part of the New York synth-pop group, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart with Anton also an active member of the band, Beach Fossils.

“The subject matter is life as vignettes,” Christoph describes, “Snapshots and stories of my relationships, mainly the one I'm just coming out of as viewed from different moments in our timeline, often projected imagined futures and mourning losses yet to come.”

These sentiments of growth and change ring bright and true with this first single, "Black City Nights", a track that thrives and reverberates in the spatial city light luster, something underpinned further with the accompanying visual which finds the pair working as chauffeurs around a neon-coated city, transporting lost souls and forgotten heroes. Here, Anton, Christoph, and company encapsulate the brightest moments of their past two decades of experience, seamlessly executing an assertive take on indie-pop economics, filled with glistening guitars and incandescent beams of synth.

Speaking about the new single, Christoph of the band says: "'Black City Nights' is a song for the disheveled and defeated, a vivid depiction of long sleepless nights, chasing ghosts of one’s past and future, lost bets, and blind optimism that the next big break is just around the corner. It’s about loneliness and what people do to escape it, as well as the hopefulness that keeps us pushing through."

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart Announce New EP 'Hell', Air "Laid" (James Cover)

New York based indie pop band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have announced they will released a new EP titled 'Hell', on November 13 via Painbow Records.

The band have also aired th EP's first track, a cover version of  James' 1993 classic "Laid", featuring vocals from Jen Goma.

About the EP, band member Kip Berman said: A couple months ago I posted a demo for the song “Hell” and some people said, 'why don’t you record that for real?' So we went over to my friend Danny’s studio (House Under Magic) and recorded the track along with two cover songs - “Ballad of the Band” by Felt and "Laid" by James as a way to mark our forthcoming tour of Japan. The latter has lead vocals by Jen Goma, who sang on our last album and also performs with the excellent pop contortionists, A Sunny Day in Glasgow. The Felt song is really the UR-Felt song, the wry articulation of what Felt is most famous for - not being an eighth as famous as they ought to be.

Hell Tracklist:

01. Hell

02. Ballad of The Band (Felt Cover)

03. Laid (James Cover)

Single of The Week November 11/2013: Wallflower "Only In My Dreams"

This week's SOTW on Kool Rock Radio is "Only In My Dreams", the new track by Japanese indie pop five-piece Wallflower.

Comprised by Masami (vocal/guitar), Ryuta (guitar), Haru (Vocal/Bass), Naohiro (drums) and Rina (vocal/synth), they uploaded their music on Soundcloud in January 2012, which caught the attention of The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, and they invited Wallflower to perform on their Japan tour, which dramatically increased their exposure.

The refreshingly shiny, popping sound rooted in 80s and 90s guitar pop resonates with the new-generation indie band. They released its debut EP 'Filled With Flowers' on Japan's label Fastcut Records, followed by the release of a 7" vinyl "Dreamy Days" in January 2013.

They're currently working on their debut album and "Only in my Dreams" is their catchy/dreamy new single.
