B Boys Announce New LP 'Dudu', Stream "I Want"

Brooklyn-based indie rock outfit B Boys have  announced the release of their highly anticipated sophomore album 'Dudu'.

The follow-up to 2017’s debut full-length Dada, was recorded by Gabe Wax (Deerhunter, Ought, Crumb) at Outlier Inn, mixed by Andy Chugg (Pill, Pop. 1280, Bambara), and will be out on July 26. Pre-order your copy here.

Influenced by The Clash, Wire, and Talking Heads, Dudu finds B Boys picking up where they left off, pondering quotidien grievances while examining the bigger picture. On tracks like “Cognitive Dissonance” and “Automation,” subtle tensions meet agonizing pressure that softly build, then explode. “I Want,” featuring Pill’s Veronica Torres, is a bright, feel-good critique of capitalism and greed.

Reptaliens Announce New LP 'Valis', Drop "Shuggie II" Music Video

Portland lo-fi/indie pop band Reptaliens have announced the release of their sophomore album titled 'Valis'.

After touring throughout most of 2017 and 2018 with STRFKR, Cults, and Of Montreal, the band returned home and went straight into renowned Portland studio Jackpot to record VALIS.

Titled after the 1981 Philip K. Dick novel, VALIS is a cohesive collection of songs unified in sound and structure and supported by recurring lyrical themes. Reptaliens wanted to recreate the warmth of something personal and familiar, while also providing the listener with the room to create a unique and personal relationship with the music. This duality can be found in the constructs, themes, and imagery portrayed through vocalist and bassist Bambi’s lyrical concepts. Juxtaposed against the backdrop of friendly and lighthearted pop hooks and melodies, Bambi engages her audience through motifs of loneliness, longing, abduction, isolation, and change as well as love and personal connection.

Musically, VALIS remains consistent with Reptaliens’ sound: 80’s analog synthesizers, tape delay echos, and a dreamy blend of guitar lines which ebb and flow throughout Bambi’s melodies. The songs are phantasmagoric, recorded with their signature lo-fi simplistic production.

The band have also dropped the video for their catchy new single "Shuggie II", directed, edited and filmed by Cole Browning. Watch it below.

Mourn Announce New LP 'Sorpresa Familia', Air Music Video For "Barcelona City Tour"

Barcelona based punk/indie rock outfit Mourn have announced the release of their third studio album titled 'Sorpresa Familia'.

About the record, the band said: “Everything you live builds you as a person, and we think it builds your art as well. We use songs as a way to express ourselves, to organize our ideas, and understand our own thoughts in order to grow emotionally. This album sums up everything we’ve lived during the past two years. It wasn’t easy to open up, but we did it anyway, without fear. Every frustration, disappointment, delusion…we got everything out. We liberated ourselves, and now we’re ready for anything that comes up. The lyrics are all very literal; they are our raw experiences, without makeup. Our animalistic side, reduced to our most intense and visceral emotions. Of all our recent experiences, we keep what was learned, all the mistakes and successes. Now we know that life is SORPRESA (a surprise), but above all, it is FAMILIA (family).”

Chock full of tension and pent up frustration, Sorpresa Familia feels tonally right at home within MOURN’s catalog. But it also feels distinctly separate - more refined, more intentional. Railing against greedy businesses, exploitation, fake friends, dishonest figures of authority, and ever complicated global politics, it’s an album of decidedly higher stakes than their past outputs, delivered with the newfound poetic grace of a band rising up out of the ashes of those who stood in their way.

The album opens with "Barcelona City Tour", a call to action against the "darker side" of Barcelona's underground music scene. "This song is the result of a lot of things we’ve endured from people who prefer to remain quiet and live exploited, in exchange for being part of something they consider exclusive.”

Dinner Announces New Album 'New Work', Airs "Un-American Woman"

Danish-born/L.A-based pop artist Dinner (aka Anders Rhedin), has announced the release of his second full-length album titled 'New Work'.

The follow-up to last year's Psychic Lovers, will be out on September 8 via Captured Tracks.

According to the press release, for this record, Rhedin battled his own perfectionism by pushing himself to collaborate more, think less, and work at a high pace throughout a short and intense period of late-night recording sessions. New Work features collaborations with artists like Charlie Hilton of Blouse and Sean Nicholas Savage.

Dinner enlisted Josh da Costa (Regal Degal, Ducktails) to produce the album with him. He and Josh worked in the nighttime at off-hours at a studio in an industrial part of downtown LA. The album’s songs were recorded on the spot with no preparation time. In-between studio sessions, Dinner recorded and overdubbed material in his apartment on an early 80’s 4-track recorder. “We did very little editing, we just tried to record what was there. You’ll hear a lot of first-takes on the record. The best part of the process was driving home early in the morning though the empty streets of LA, listening to the night’s recordings. Because it was such an immediate experience.”

Dinner have also aired the album's first single "Un-American Woman" today with a video shot in Las Vegas that features Mac DeMarco's brother Hank dancing with his ballet troupe.

In writing "Un-American Woman" (and much of the album), Rhedin was inspired by William Blake's Proverbs of Hell. "'Un-American Woman' is a song I wrote just before I stopped going out, just before I stopped sleeping around with women," he says. "The song seems to be about disillusionment and a fear of being stuck in a certain lifestyle. But it also touches upon the potential transformational aspects of 'bad things.' Nothing's black or white, good or bad. There is just lifeforce moving. A constant movement. 'The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom,' in the words of Blake. I lifted that line for the song, of course."
