Listen: Radiohead Single Leaks

New tracks from Radiohead have emerged online ahead of Record Store Day.

Set to be released tomorrow (April 16th) the new 12 inch from Radiohead is highly unusual. The vinyl release is being kept to a strictly limited edition.

The first physical pressing of two new tracks, 'Supercollider' and 'The Butcher' have been kept under wraps. Referring to the new 12 inch, the drummer claimed that the material is offcuts from recent sessions. "The Butcher is from the King Of Limbs sessions," he revealed.  "Supercollider was recorded during that period and finished off after the album came out."

The tracks were not jettisoned from the album because of quality, but more due to neither fitting into the LP's overarching structure. As a result, the quality of the new release is high. Leaking online, fans have been able to hear exactly what they will be queuing for tomorrow...

Meanwhile 'The Butcher' is a far more focussed track - beat heavy, but not at the expense of songwriting.

As part of the Record Store Day celebrations, Ed O'Brien praised the role of independent record shops. "Record stores are some of the most important places for people coming together [and] choosing music that they love," O'Brien said, "so anything we could to help out in these very hard times, we wanted to do."

Radiohead To Release New Album 'The King of Limbs' on Saturday

Radiohead will release their new album, The King of Limbs, on Saturday, the band have confirmed in a surprise announcement.

The release was announced on Radiohead’s official website on Monday morning, with fans able to pre-order the record before the weekend.

The King of Limbs will be available as a download from Saturday for £6, while die-hard fans can buy a ‘newspaper album’ version for £30.

A post on the band’s website said The King of Limbs would be the ‘world’s first (perhaps) newspaper album, comprising of two vinyl records, a CD, larges sheets of artwork, 625 pieces of tiny artwork plus a full-colour piece of oxo-degradable plastic to hold it together.’

The King of Limbs is Radiohead’s eighth studio album and their first since 2007’s In Rainbows, which was released essentially for free with fans being given the chance to decide how much they wanted to pay for the record.

The physical version of The King of Limbs will be available on May 9, while all other versions will be available to download at the weekend.

The album will contain:

- Two clear 10" vinyl records in a purpose-built record sleeve.

- A compact disc.

- Many large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a full-colour piece of oxo-de-gradeable plastic to hold it all together.

- One lucky owner of the digital version of The King Of Limbs, purchased from the website, will receive a signed 2 track 12" vinyl.

Pre-orders are being taken now, with the band also releasing the artwork. Little else is known about the album, with the full tracklisting due to be confirmed over the next few days.

"In Rainbows" tracks removed

A number of blogs have been targeted by the RIAA and the IFPA after placing Radiohead material on their sites.

Radiohead have a curious relationship with the internet. The band's 2007 album 'In Rainbows' was released as a ground breaking download, with the band deciding fans were able to 'pay what you like'.

The release broke new ground, with Radiohead receiving praise for existing outside the label structure. However in a high profile spat last year Lily Allen attacked the band, claiming that the scheme only worked due to their fame - established by major label EMI.

Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien is the head of the FAC, and has previously adopted a pro-file sharing stance. Lily Allen's outburst brought the issue to a head, poking holes in the band's argument.

Now bloggers have been targeted by copyright organisations after placing Radiohead material on the internet. The tracks stem from 'In Rainbows' with the RIAA and IFPI issuing a takedown plea to Google.
The request means that Google would stop listing the sites, effectively blocking them off the internet due to the power of the search engine.

ChillingEffects have managed to get hold of the letter RIAA sent to Google, which demands the takedown of the blogs. The organisation claims that the tracks "have not been authorised" for free download by their "member companies".

Radiohead have yet to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, singer Thom Yorke is preparing to perform at this year's Big Chill. The singer is set to play solo, with recent sets leaning heavily on both Radiohead material and his own album 'The Eraser'.

Drummer Philip Selway, meanwhile, is preparing to release his debut solo album. Recorded earlier this year, 'Familial' is a confident introduction to his rarely heard songwriting.
