Friendly Fires Announce New LP 'Inflorescent', Stream "Silhouettes"

British indie rock/pop/dance band Friendly Fires have announced the release of their their long-awaited third studio album 'Inflorescent'.

The 11-track album includes their previously shared tracks "Love Like Waves", "Heaven Let Me In", also their brand new single "Silhouettes", it will be out on on August 16 Via Polydor. Pre-order your copy here.

Arriving eight years after their last album, Inflorescent is the sound of a band rejuvenated and reborn. The hiatus had left some to question whether we'd ever see another full length Friendly Fires record but once the three band members - Ed Macfarlane, Edd Gibson and Jack Savidge, friends since the age of eleven - reconvened in Macfarlane's parents' St Albans garage (the scene of much of their early recorded output) at the tail end of 2017, things were never really in doubt. Arriving with just three scrawled words ("Love. Like. Waves") as a starting point, they soon emerged with a finished song as fresh and vital as anything they'd done before.

Alongside producers / co-producers Mark Ralph, James Ford and Disclosure, Friendly Fires have spent the last eighteen months making a record in a variety of London studios that stands tall among their previous albums; the Brit Awards and Mercury Prize-nominated Friendly Fires and its acclaimed follow up, Pala. In fact, it may well go down as their best yet. If their previous records summoned a feeling of yearning and hazy escapism, Inflorescent is much more direct, in part inspired – lyrically at least – by reconnecting with the hardcore records they’d bonded over as teenagers. Equally informed by experiencing the here and now, by hanging out and dancing in clubs together as a trio again, it’s a record very much about living in the present; about not being afraid, seizing the moment, casting aside doubts and pursuing the things you love.

British indie rock/pop/dance band Friendly Fires have shared their cover  version of Charles B & Adonis' 1988 track "Lack Of Love".

About the cover, the band posted:

Lack Of Love by Charles B & Adonis has been hovering in and around the top of the charts in Friendly Fires land for over 12 years. It was an important tune for us when we started the band, and it's an important tune for us now. It squelches and fizzes and yearns and emotes – it's a piece of secular gospel music that bangs the dance floor, and will do eternally. 

We wanted to cover one of our all-time favourites as a little palate-cleansing exercise; try and make it faithful to the original but also carry off into somewhere new. Thanks to Adonis & Charles B for making the original all those years ago, it continues to inspire us.

Friendly Fires To Release New Collaborative Single With Andrew Weatherall

Friendly Fires have announced they will release a double A-side single "Before Your Eyes" / "Velo" on March 31, teaming up with Andrew Weatherall's The Asphodells project.

According to the press release, at some point in 2013, Friendly Fires, Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J Fairplay (aka The Asphodells), convened in an east London pub to discuss collaborating on new music together. The plan was to produce music that came from a place outside of their respective usual musical styles - a loose, open-ended process embarked upon for the pure joy of experimentation and collaboration rather than a specific end goal. 

The collaboration came on the back of two hugely successful Friendly Fires albums - 2008's debut 'Friendly Fires' and 2011's follow up 'Pala' - and an acclaimed debut album from The Asphodells in 2013's 'Ruled By Passion Destroyed By Lust', the latest in a long line of classic releases from Andrew Weatherall's own Rotters Golf Club label. The result is 'Before Your Eyes' and 'Velo' - two brand new tracks that take close to ten minutes each to reveal their full hypnotic glory. The tracks are released as a AA-sided single on 12" on Friendly Fires' own Telophase label.

Friendly Fires Could Release New Material Under A New Name

According to  Friendly Fires' frontman, Ed MacFarlane,  the band could release new music under a different name due to the direction their new material is moving in.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, MacFarlane has said that new music he is working on with his bandmates is  not sounding like anything the group have produced to date, meaning they could be unleashed on the general public under a new name at some stage in the future.

"We've been working on eight-minute long tracks that don’t sound anything like what we do now," he said. 

Macfarlane has also expressed that he's comfortable with the concept of releasing the material under a new moniker: "The music is what it's all about for us so if it means we release under a different name then that’s fine."

The news come after a previous word from the band that they won't be recording material until they have something 'distinct' on paper. After some time in the studio, the band announced that they had goodies to offer the fans, describing that "We've been tentatively putting together new music. We're working on quite a few things and we need to finish those off. It sounds a bit more thoughtful, a bit more downbeat, it's still quite fast, but it's krauty. We'll see what happens once we've pulled it all together."

Friendly Fires Announce 'Pala' Release Date

Friendly Fires have announced they are set to release their second album, 'Pala', on May 16th.

Releasing their debut album in 2008, the trio became a slow burning success. Kept in the charts by continual touring, Friendly Fires enjoyed massive success. Since then, the band have kept a low profile.

Returning to the studio, Friendly Fires began work once again with producer Paul Epworth, who worked with them in England, France and New York.

Named 'Pala' - after the island in Aldous Huxley’s 1962 novel ‘Island’ - the band's second album is due to drop on May 16th.

The band will be playing some Canadian dates shortly after the album’s release:

The art work for 'Pala' features a photograph of a parrot shot by famed fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø, while guests on the album include The Harlem Gospel Choir and Holy Ghost’s Alex Frankel.

Friendly Fires to Collaborate on Bugged Out! Mix

UK's disco-leaning indie-dance trio Friendly Fires, are set to curate a new mix for the Bugged Out label.

Entitled Bugged Out! Presents Suck My Deck, the mix album contains 19 tracks from names like Tom Trago, Tensnake, Lindstrøm & Christabelle, Redshape, and Bot'Ox, and an eclectic affair, including a collaboration between the band and Toronto house crew Azari & III.

All three of the band boast a background steeped in dance culture, with singer Ed MacFarlane even producing his own tracks. Released through Skam, the cuts provide a backdrop to the current success of Friendly Fires. 

The story begins when The band were invited to curate a special Bugged Out party in London, mixing performances from indie newcomers such as The Invisible with sets from Kompakt boss Michael Mayer and Hot Chip producer Joe Goddard. The huge success of the show cemented relations between the pair, with Bugged Out inviting Friendly Fires to produce a new mix CD.
