Arcade Fire's Richard Reed Parry To Release New Solo Album 'Music For Heart And Breath'

Arcade Fire multi-instrumentalist Richard Reed Parry has announced he will release his new solo album titled 'Music for Heart and Breath', on June 9th through Deutsche Grammophon.

In a statement, Parry described the album as: "very soft, very quiet music, played utterly in sych with the heart rates and breathing rates of the musicians performing it".

"Every note you hear is either in synch with the heartbeat of the person playing it, the breathing of the person (or one of the surrounding persons) playing it. So what you hear when this music plays is played precisely in time with someone’s quiet, internal rhythms. Brought to musical life by a handful of different ensembles. And now, at last, recorded in full, and coming out on Deutsche Grammophon in a few weeks from now. It has been a joy to create this work, and even more of a joy to have it brought to life by such a fantastic cast of musical minds." Parry explained.

Tracklist:

01. Quartet For Heart And Breath
02. Heart And Breath Sextet
03. For Heart, Breath And Orchestra
Interruptions (Heart and Breath Nonet)
04. I Miniature 1
05. II String Peaks
06. III Wind’s Idea
07. IV Miniature 2
08. V Sticks/Tension
09. VI French Guitars
10. VII Freeform Winds/String Drones
11. Duet For Heart And Breath
12. Quartet For Heart And Breath

Parry debuted a little part of the record at ATP 2012, watch footage below.

Watch: Arcade Fire Premiere "We Exist" New Video, Starring Andrew Garfield

Canadian indie band Arcade Fire have released an official video for their latest single "We Exist", off their fourth studio album 'Reflektor', which came out last year via Merge Records.

The song is part of our current playlist, and according to Win Butler it is "about a gay kid talking to his dad" and coming out to his straight father. He has introduced the song onstage (including at the band's Coachella set last month, during which the video's live footage was shot) by saying, "The right to marry anyone you want is a human rights issue."

So the clip is a perfect match for the song lyrics and features actor Andrew Garfield, yes Spider-Man himself, playing the role of a gay man struggling with his identity.

Arcade Fire Reveal More Details For New Double Album 'Reflektor'

Yesterday Arcade Fire debuted the single and video for the title track to their forthcoming new record, now the band have revealed more details about their now confirmed, double album.

The album artwork, inspired by Greek mythology, features a sculpture of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice by Auguste Rodin.

As we previously reported, 'Reflektor', produced by James Murphy, will be released on October 29 via Merge, and will be a double album comprised of 13 songs. It is available to pre-order now on iTunes or via the Arcade Fire Online Store.

In a recent interview with BBC, Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler said they had written 50 or 60 songs, which were then redefined.

“[It] made more sense to stretch it out to two records. I never wanted to be in a band that could never play whatever music we wanted to, and I think that every record has been a project itself and some of the stuff on this record is really going to surprise people – it's even more different than ‘Reflektor’ I would say.” Butler explained.

"It’s longer than ‘The Suburbs’ – it’s a double record – mostly down to the fact that the songs are a lot longer,” he added. “I mean, ‘Reflector’ is seven-and-a-half, there’s another couple of seven-minute songs on the record and so it made more sense to stretch it out to two records with two distinct sides. It’s more of a classic double LP vibe where you have to flip the side and it takes you to a different place.” He added.
